Chapter 85 Maeve and Annie? Just a simple warm-up.
But the drunken Queen’s logic was simple and brutal.
She turned her head, stared intently at Lucas, and then pointed at Annie: "As long as I take care of her, you won’t have any reason to refuse me, right?"
Lucas had nothing to say. How was he supposed to answer that?
Maeve didn’t care about that; she ripped off her trench coat.
As one of the top five most famous female warriors in America, Maeve had a tall, statuesque figure.
She was practically a female war god stepped straight out of Ancient Greek mythology.
"You... what are you doing! Go find him! Don’t come over here!"
Annie backed away repeatedly, her hands lighting up with golden radiance once again.
High-energy beams condensed in her palms.
Seriously, can you believe this?!
At this moment, Maeve was like a female leopard locking onto its prey, her speed shockingly fast.
Relying on her years of experience in hand-to-hand combat, she directly subdued Annie.
"I have a rough idea of your ability: absorbing light sources and converting them into high-energy beams, right."
Maeve locked Annie’s wrists with a single hand. Annie tried to absorb light, but she couldn’t do it at all.
"If I restrain your hands, you can’t do anything."
"As fellow Supes, your growth rate is decent, but you’re still far behind the veterans!"
"Let go of me! Guardian! Pull her off!" Annie looked at Lucas.
But after all, Maeve was a long-established, veteran hero.
She was a powerhouse who could fight Homelander in close quarters and break his defenses with a single punch.
Annie was simply no match for her.
In a few quick moves, Starlight completely lost the ability to resist.
Who knows where a drunkard gets their strength? After subduing her romantic rival with absolute power, Maeve turned around and blew a lock of hair away from her eyes.
"Are you planning to just sit there and watch the show?"
Lucas smiled.
This was a good thing!
His battle robe was very sensible and packed itself away.
...
The night passed in a flash.
Female warriors really are formidable.

The next day. Vought Tower.
Hughie, wearing a crisp, tailored suit, stepped into the building, feeling slightly nervous.
He had told Butcher exactly what happened regarding Guardian giving him a job.
Butcher’s instructions were identical.
Hughie had no choice but to give up his life of working from home and, acting as an undercover agent, infiltrate Vought to collect evidence against them.
"Hughie, right?"
Just as he stepped into the elevator, a young blonde woman hurried in as well.
"Who are you?"
"Cate, a member of Guardian’s team. We’re in the same department now."
"Ah, hello! I’m Hughie, nice to meet you!"
Hughie reached out his hand. Cate flashed a meaningful smile and then took it.
Using telepathy, she quickly read his thoughts from his brain.
Cate looked somewhat surprised.
Butcher? A spy? Collecting evidence against Vought?
Good grief, what kind of weirdo did the boss hire?
Hughie just felt a bit dazed.
But he quickly recovered. Looking at Cate in front of him, he subconsciously sensed something was off.
What happened to him just now?
"The boss is very easygoing, and the work here is quite relaxed. You’ll like working here."
Cate patted Hughie on the shoulder and headed straight for Lucas’s office.
Cate pushed open the office door.
Lucas was sitting with his legs crossed, his feet resting on the expensive mahogany desk, leisurely scrolling through the combo codes Ryan had sent him.
"Boss." Cate closed the door and lowered her voice. "That new supervisor you hired... Hughie, there’s something wrong with him."
"Oh?" Lucas didn’t even look up.
"I shook his hand just now. He’s a man called Butcher who snuck in as a spy, specifically to collect evidence against Vought."
She had thought this would be some incredible scoop.
But Lucas just gave a light grunt, his attitude extremely indifferent.
It was... quite discouraging for a worker bee.
"I know."
"...You know?" Cate was stunned.
"I’ve already had A-Train keep an eye on him."
Lucas finally raised his eyes. "Just interact with him normally. Even if he finds something, you don’t need to intervene. Even I don’t know what old skeletons Vought might have in its closet, but if they get dug up, we can nip them in the bud."
Cate suddenly realized.
That’s the boss for you!
She suddenly felt that she, a telepath, was always a step behind her boss.
She felt a sense of frustration.
"Oh right, how is your ability training going? Can you use it remotely yet?"
Lucas took a moment to check on Cate’s progress.
"I just remembered I didn’t wear underwear when I left today. I’m going back to change." Cate slammed the door shut.
...
At the other end of the hallway.
Hughie, in a brand-new suit, felt the tie choking him a bit, while his palms were covered in sweat.
First day of work.
Infiltrating the lair of The Seven as an ordinary person.
He should be the strongest pressure-resistant member of The Boys.
Hughie was a bit disoriented and almost bumped into someone.
A-Train.
Hughie stiffened, instinctively wanting to hide. This was the guy who almost smashed him and his girlfriend to pieces; if it weren’t for Guardian...
But before he could react, A-Train stopped in his tracks, apparently recognizing Hughie too.
"Hughie Campbell, right."
"Ah... yes, that’s me!"
A-Train was silent for a moment, and then, he did something that made Hughie’s entire brain crash.
He lowered his head, his attitude sincere.
"I owe you an apology."
Hughie: "???"
A-Train apologizing?
What the hell, is he in some kind of re-education camp?
"I know an ’I’m sorry’ doesn’t make up for anything."
A-Train’s voice was full of emotion. "The old me was a junkie, a piece of trash who didn’t value other people’s lives. Thank god nothing terrible happened, but every day I live, I remember that incident."
"I won’t make the same mistake again!"
Hughie froze in place. If his jaw could hit the floor, it would have made a loud thud right then.
It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen A-Train apologize before.
After all, he used to be a die-hard fan, but back then, he could tell A-Train looked completely unwilling.
But this time, it was completely different.
"You..."
Hughie’s throat was dry. "Is this sincere, or is it just another PR stunt?"
"You’ll see."
A-Train’s eyes were serious. "You just need to watch what I do from now on. I won’t let him down again."
Him?
A-Train’s brother?
