The Coffee Shop in a Different World Station

26 Prototypes that can be superimposed and flavours that you want to reproduce (1/3 part)

Even that day, lunchtime at the coffee shop 'Swallow' was very busy.

Until now, the main focus has been on passengers arriving by train the most and passengers trying to finish their lunch before leaving our station by train number two, but a little more passengers from the neighborhood were also coming to this.

In addition, more customers came here these days from Central Street and Portside for a 'swordfish' lunch, so full in the store at peak times that it was short outside but queued.

The reason for the sudden increase in the number of customers was in the new menu "Pato (pasta) lunch” recently added.

“Patranch," which was started in response to the fact that Pato could now be purchased in earnest through the Silva Chamber of Commerce, echoed Takumi more than expected.

Revealed at an exposition held at the end of the summer, Pato also attracted a great deal of attention within the venue and was popular enough to queue up. The reputation was in the memory of the city's people, without disappearing even after the exposition.

They can eat that “new dish from an exotic country" if they go to a store called "Swallow" located at Harpertown Station. It also doesn't seem to hurt your nostalgia and can be enjoyed at an easy price - soon after Takumi adds “Patranchi” to her new lunch menu, her reputation will be known throughout the city.

And the people of the curious city began to visit to try it once and now the buzz of the 'swordfish' had been brought about.

The sound of a doorbell called Karan Karan rings in the store where lunchtime peaks begin to show calm. When Nyarch turned around the entrance, there were two people there who were “familiar customers”.

"Welcome, it's been a long time! Please take this seat."

The guests who came in were Gustav, the guild leader of the Mechanical Guild, and Salvador, the handsome Panadero (baker). Nyarch leads them both to their seats with a cheerful voice, as usual.

"Nyarch, it's been a long time. No, it's still flourishing."

Gustav, who was led to his seat by Nyarch, spoke to the cat-eared billboard daughter as she wiped her hands with the towel she was served.

Salvador, who was looking over the guests' seats, goes on to speak to Nyarch.

"... Hmm, that does mean we're gonna need more bread than ever before"

"It does. Thanks to you, I'm very busy. I wish I could use a cat's hand! But I'm a cat!

The two spill naturally a grin at Nyarch, who says something as unclear as he moves his ears. While the cuisine produced by Takumi was in full swing, it reached both ears that Nyarch's bright customer service was one reputation.

I don't even care about that. Nyarch does his job.

"By the way, what will you do with your order?

"Of course." Patranch "... but do you still have enough for today?

Gustav takes confirmation before ordering.

The “Patranch" you're looking for is a limited menu. However, given that we were already crossing the lunchtime peak, it was a delicate time to see if today's portion had not sold out.

Nyarch laughed two cups at Gustav, who spoke out worryingly.

"It's going to be okay! I just checked with the garbage truck and they said it was going to be okay!

"Oh, thank God for that. Well, I'll let it be Patranch. Well, what are you gonna do? Is that your usual C-lunch?

Salvador listened to Gustav's interaction with Nyarch. After doing his hand to his chin and cruising around for a while, he nods one and then slowly opens his mouth.

"... No, I'll have a“ Patranch ”too. Lord Takumi asked me to give it a try."

"Yes, you did! Two patranches, and after-dinner drinks were good with the usual cinnamon coffee, right?

To confirm the order from Nyarch, he said, "Whoa, please!" Gustav answers briefly. Salvador, on the other hand, nodded quietly and responded.

"You got it! Now, wait a minute!

Upon receiving their confirmation, Nyarch called out with a cheerful voice and a grinning smile before rushing to the kitchen.

―――――

"I'm going in. To Mr. Gustav and Mr. Salvador, it's two patranches!

A new order was passed from Nyarch into the kitchen of the 'swordfish', which is getting over busy like a battlefield.

When Takumi learns that the two people who always looked after Nyarch's words were coming to the store, she replies to Nyarch, waving a frying pan in front of the rocket stove.

"Copy that. Tell her I'll ask her to say hello later. And then I'll leave one Patranch first! How's Roland getting ready for lunch A?

"It's okay! I can get you out of here right now!

To the voice of confirmation from Takumi, Roland also quickly returned the words.

On the counter provided in the peek window connecting the counter to the kitchen, the dishes prepared can be arranged.

Takumi, who confirmed that he had all the dishes for the previous order, including Roland's share of the charge, sent a signal to Nyarch.

"For the window customers, please. And then Patranch is done with one left.

"It's so aiming! Then, once Patranch stops ordering."

Nyarch sounded energetic and good in the kitchen before taking the food to the bottom of the guests on a large tray.

From Takumi's mouth, who dropped that off sideways, the next instruction to work flies to Roland.

"Then Roland will ask you to prepare soup and warm vegetables for Patranch and then toast"

"We'll split it up. Roger that!"

Roland returns a petty reply. My job as a cook is completely on the board, and now I don't have to give detailed instructions to figure out the steps of the work. Takumi relieved Roland of the task and concentrated on cooking the pato for two in charge himself.

Like other lunch menus, Patranch is “daily”. Incorporated in the rotation at this stage are “pepperoncino-style" sautéed with salted meats, mushrooms and seasonal vegetables in a "meat sauce" based on ground beef and tomatoes, “Indian" served with spiced curry sauce, and “Italian” served in today's Patranch.

The reason Takumi chose these among many other options, it was in the "cooking step”.

It was the time it took to boil the pato that became a challenge when starting the patranch. The boiling of the pato takes around ten minutes, which leaves the customer waiting even if they are listening to the order and then starting to boil the pato.

The size of the pot to boil the pato is also limited, so there was also a fear that if the order was concentrated, it would not be easy to stir.

Due to the characteristics of this "swordfish" shop, which is co-located in the “station building" and many customers are on the verge of making their next plans, including switching to trains and station carriages, it was also conceivable that customers would be bothered if they did not manage this problem.

So Takumi chose the “boil the pato” method. Reduce the cooking time by rewarming the pre-boiled patties “sautéed in a frying pan” each time the order is placed.

Takumi used to work part-time in a coffee shop.

The "boiled” pato also has its disadvantages. Compared to the “boiled” pato, it's really weaker and more prone to bad teeth.

However, as I have felt before when I was repeating the prototypes of Natl and Pato, the people of the area seem to prefer Pato, which has been finished to the extent that they feel a little soft on Takumi, to the "Pato of Ardente” that left their teeth behind.

If so, Takumi thought it would be acceptable even for a “boiled" pato.

Nevertheless, it was also unsatisfactory as a takumi that Cosi became too weak. So, after all the trial and error, I was trying to make sure that by choosing a fat pato and also shortening the boiling time, it would be just the right balance when I finally could.

Takumi checks that the ingredients are aligned and starts cooking the “Italian Pato”.

I've already finished the planting, so all I have to do is stir together.

First, arrange two oval-shaped cast iron dishes over a rocket stove adjusted to medium-high heat, and blend the corsa (vegetable species) oil thinly, warm and set aside.

And when I adjusted the flame of the other rocket stove to a high fire, I put the frying pan on and warmed it up with corsa oil here as well.

In anticipation of when a little smoke began to rise from the colza oil, add the pre-chopped seboria (onion) and pimiento (pepper), and the salted pork smoked (bacon) sliced thinly into it. When the ingredients were stir-fry all at once with strong firepower, I added the pato that had been boiled down to it.

The pato being boiled is tangled with corsa oil to prevent the noodles from sticking to each other. Stir-fried oil was added to it, and it began to glow even more glossy.

After adding the pato, salt pepper and season the bottom flavor, stirring together to ensure heat is applied firmly to the whole area while leaping the pato and ingredients in the frying pan.

And when it's sautéed well enough, add the tomato ketchup that will be needed to season. At this time, it is the takumi stream that gently sprinkles the spice mix that is also used for curry as a hidden flavor.

If you shake the frying pan further and let the whole thing taste like it, it's finally the last finish.

Takumi, which is chopped with eggs in a bowl, is melted by beating them with vegetable chopsticks and then poured into an iron dish that was first warmed and placed.

I wouldn't call it “Italian” without "Melted Eggs in an Iron Plate" - it was also Takumi's most dedicated point in reproducing the memorable dishes he had been familiar with since childhood in "this world”.

When the melted eggs are cooked to about half ripe, serve the pato, which was cooked in a frying pan, on an iron dish. The yellow carpet had a beautiful view of a pato stained with pearls.

Heated iron plates are transferred over wooden plates that serve as receptacles with special handles (handles) to avoid burns. From the “Italian” in two servings, the hot air containing a delicious fragrance was rising.

"Pato, I'm going up for two."

"This one looks ok too!

Roland reacts quickly to Takumi's voice announcing completion.

Served on a small plate is thinly sliced cornbread toast. The combination is seasoned with steamed broccoli and sanaolia (carrots) with salt and pepper.

Until now, the salad of raw vegetables has often been served as a accompaniment, but it has been switched to assembling around warm vegetables during the cold weather. It was a small thing, but it included Takumi's desire to warm up a little.

The soup is potage soup from Calabassa (pumpkin). This is also available for the colder season.

Confirming that the menu was as complete as earlier, Takumi spoke to Nyarch, who was struggling alone in the hall with his face out of a peek window.

"Patranch, we're up for two. Please!

―――

"No, it was really good. You were wonderful today."

Gustav sends praise in short words to Takumi, who came to greet him while carrying coffee after a meal.

Salvador also followed Gustav's words as he dropped his gaze on a perfectly flat iron dish.

"... it was surprising that Pato and Cornbread would fit. I never thought about putting a pato on top of a bread."

"I am afraid. I wanted you to try the combination of Pato and Bread, which was a good thing to see where I used to live."

"... well. But Pato sure is made of arena (flour)? Though mace (corn) flour and arrow (comedy) flour dominate the bread, don't you get tired of powder overlapping with each other?

Salvador asks with interest. Again, anything related to Bread would attract interest.

Takumi nodded one before responding to enthusiastic questions from the handsome baker.

"A lot of toast served with Pato was about half as small as normal, so I think he was able to eat it before he got bored. Besides, today it was“ Italian ”I sautéed with the sauce, but in the case of the type of pato that sauces from the top like" meat sauce ”or“ Indian, "I was looking forward to wiping the remaining sauce on the plate with toast and eating it. This was a bit of a bad behavior story."

Gustav gobbles and throats at Takumi's answer.

"Hmmm, I just ate that earlier, but I'm going to be hungry again when you hear me talk about that! All right, now I'd love to eat both“ meat sauce ”and“ Indian ”. With toast, of course."

To Gustav's words, Takumi slowly bows her head to show her gratitude.

"We would love to have it next time. Yes, I would love to have that too..."

"Hmm? Who's that?

Gustav reacts to Takumi's whining. Takumi explains the intent of the word.

"No, apart from what I'm putting in the menu rotation right now, there was another pato dish layering the prototype, and I'm currently in the process of repeating the prototype. However, we are actually having a bit of a struggle..."

"Well, what is a difficult dish even with Lord Takumi? You're gonna need some special equipment?

Gustav raised his surprise at the rare and weak words spilled from Takumi.

Gustav appreciated that Takumi is definitely on a first-rate level as a “craftsman" based on his experience of seeing a number of craftsmen as the chief of the mechanical guild.

The fact that the takumi is so distressed by the prototype may mean that they are struggling to get the tools they are supposed to use, Gustav made them work that way.

The answer from Takumi, however, was different from Gustav's expectations.

"No, the pato in prototyping is the same type of sauce as“ meat sauce ”or“ Indian, "so it doesn't mean you need special equipment. But I've eaten many times in the past, and this is actually the first time I've ever made it, and I'm looking for ingredients and ways to make it from scratch."

"... Hmm. Do you want me to reproduce just the memory of taste? That's too much work. You don't have any literature to help you?

Salvador, who was quietly watching the interaction between the two of them, has pinched words about whether they were attracted to their hearts as “craftsmen” handling the same food.

Takumi wrinkles between her brows with a smile and shakes her neck to the side.

"Unfortunately, we have absolutely nothing on hand to serve as a dossier. You rely only on your own memories that you remember naggingly. Nevertheless, I know that some prospects are coming, so I will be able to reveal them shortly. In doing so, I hope you will be able to taste it."

Takumi, who said so and lowered his head, had a sharp light lurking behind his eyes. Two people who feel Takumi's thoughts say words to each other.

"... tell me if there's anything I can do to help"

"Neither do I. If you need help, I'll have anything for you. Don't hesitate to say it anytime!

"Thank you. We'd love to help you when you need us."

It was a takumi who thankfully took the two minds and bowed their heads deeply again.
