Chapter 250: Viper Selene
The building crumbled to dust.
Stone and metal collapsed inward as the concentrated lightning vaporized the structure’s core supports. The shockwave flattened everything within a fifty-meter radius—bandits, furniture, weapons, all reduced to ash and debris.
Silence fell over the eastern slums.
Then Kael’s soldiers erupted in cheers.
"Young Master is incredible!"
"That lightning—gods, I’ve never seen anything like it!"
"Bloodfang is gone. Just like that!"
Kael descended slowly, lightning fading from his hands. The attack had cost significantly—nearly fifteen percent of his mana reserves—but the efficiency was improving. Four month ago, the same technique would have drained twice as much.
"Clean up the survivors," he ordered. "Anyone still breathing gets questioned, then executed if they resist."
The soldiers dispersed.
Then an aura flared from the rubble.
Marcus—Bloodfang Marcus—dragged himself from the debris, flames wreathing his body in a desperate defensive cocoon. The lightning had caught him on the building’s edge rather than directly above.
"YOU FUCKING BASTARD!" Marcus screamed, blood pouring from his ears, his left arm hanging limp. "I’LL TEAR YOU APART! I’LL—"
He looked up.
Kael floated in the air above him, hands still crackling with residual lightning. The soldiers were on the ground below, advancing on the scattered survivors.
Marcus’s remaining eye locked onto Kael with pure hatred. Flames burst from his legs as he launched himself into the air—
Kael smirked down at him with a bored expression.
"Sorry, but I’m not your opponent."
Lira materialized in front of Kael.
Her fists crystallized—solid ice-blue crystal covering her knuckle.
Her punch caught Marcus in the chest.
CRACK.
The flame cocoon shattered. Marcus’s ribs caved inward. He flew backward like a broken doll, crashing through a slum wall and tumbling into the ruins of a collapsed building.
"What are you still doing? Kill the survivors!" Kael shouted to his soldiers below. "Lira can handle this."
He floated down to street level, arms crossed, watching.
Lira was Peak Rank 9 Mana Heart. Against Marcus—a wounded Rank 7—she was overkill. Her ability, Crystallization, allowed her to convert matter into crystal through touch. Unstoppable in close combat. Inescapable once contact was made.
Marcus dragged himself from the rubble, coughing blood profusely. His flames flickered weakly around his broken body.
Lira appeared in front of him with blinding speed.
Her hand pressed against his chest. An evil smile curved her lips.
"My Lord is watching," she murmured, "and I have to impress. So put up some fight."
She kicked him.
Her crystallized foot connected with his stomach with devastating force. Marcus’s body bent around the impact, flames sputtering, as he was launched backward—BOOM—crashing through another building and out the other side.
Lira appeared in front of him again before he stopped moving.
Her hand closed around his head.
Crystals began spreading from her palm—crawling across Marcus’s skull, down his neck, across his shoulders. The process was slow and incredibly painful.
"How disappointing," Lira said softly.
Marcus screamed and activated Flame Body—his entire form becoming living fire, burning hot enough to melt steel.
Lira’s whole body crystallized.
The flames washed over her crystal form without effect. Marcus’s desperation meant nothing against an ability that fundamentally changed what he was trying to destroy.
His body continued crystallizing despite the flames—legs first, then torso, then his remaining good arm. He struggled, thrashed, tried to pull free, but Lira held his head tight with a grip that wouldn’t break.
"Stop—" Marcus gurgled. "Please—"
The crystals reached his neck. His chin. His mouth.
Lira held his crystallized head for one final moment.
Then she kicked.
SHATTER.
Marcus’s body exploded into a thousand crystal fragments that rained across the slum like jagged snow.
Kael watched from the street below. "Impressive."
Lira rushed to his side, her crystallization fading, a happy expression on her normally composed face. "My Lord, did I do well?"
Kael smiled. "You did well."
He turned toward the western district. "Now let’s go for the last bandit in my city. Viper Selene."
The black market of Trevor City operated out of a converted underground warehouse—rows of stalls selling illegal goods, prohibited substances, and information that couldn’t be obtained through legitimate channels. The space was crowded, dimly lit, and absolutely silent as Kael’s group entered.
Every thief, smuggler, and fence in the market had frozen in place.
Selene was waiting.
She stood at the market’s center. A tall woman with sharp features, dark hair pulled back in a severe ponytail, and eyes that missed nothing. Her posture was relaxed. Her expression was amused.
Instead of attacking, she greeted him.
"Greetings, my Lord." A slight bow. "If I had known you were coming earlier, I would have prepared a banquet."
Kael’s eyes narrowed slightly. It seems she already knows who I am. Her information network is quite good.
He smiled. "It seems you know who I am."
"Of course, my Lord." Selene’s smile didn’t waver. "It would be a shame not to recognize such presence. Kael Cassian Vorn. Lord of Starfall City. The sixth son of the Family Head of the Vorn Family."
Kael smirked. "Are you sure you don’t want to attack me?"
Selene’s smile turned wry. "I wouldn’t dare. Even if I took the bounty from Zenthoria on your head, I’m afraid your personal servants would be enough to wipe me off the face of existence itself—not even considering the Vorn family."
Kael dropped to the ground, dismissing his flight. He waved a hand casually.
"Don’t worry. Most of my family members hate me, and most of them probably want me dead." His smile sharpened. "It’s not too late for that banquet you were talking about."
Selene’s eyes flickered and then she turned to her people.
"Prepare a banquet. Now."
The black market exploded into activity.
An hour later, Kael and Selene sat across from each other in a private room above the market. The food was surprisingly excellent—roasted meats, spiced vegetables, fine wine. Selene had pulled out all the stops.
Kael set down his cup. "What can you offer me now that I’ve taken over this city?"
Selene leaned back. "What about the guilds?"
"Already taken care of."
Selene’s smile froze for just a fraction of a second.
"I see." She took a slow sip of wine. "I underestimated you, my Lord. I thought you were just another Vorn playing at territory management."
Suddenly, footsteps came from the stairs.
Vyra entered the room with her squad behind her, still in combat gear. She bowed slightly.
"Young Master. The guilds have agreed to work for you. Roderick Ashworth and Elara Vance both accepted terms without requiring... persuasion."
Kael turned back to Selene.
His smirk said everything.
