Chapter 216: The Devil
The three attacked simultaneously.
Wind blades sliced toward his neck. A sword whispered through the air aimed at his spine.
Kael didn’t turn. He didn’t need to.
His mana flared outward. Gravity Push.
BOOM.
A wave of gravitational force exploded from his body in all directions. The wind blades shattered. The earth spikes crumbled. The sword-wielding servant — Maren — was launched backward, her feet skidding across the dirt road as she struggled to maintain her balance. The other two fared no better, sent tumbling through the air before crashing into the side of a wooden building.
CRASH.
Planks splintered. Dust billowed.
Kael’s hands came together in a single fluid motion — index and middle fingers crossed at the wrists. Dark energy swelled between his palms, crackling with phantom lightning.
"Dark Summon: Shadow Serpent."
The shadow beneath him rippled like disturbed water. Then something surged upward from the darkness — scales materializing from nothing, coiling and uncoiling with serpentine grace.
Eight meters of pure black serpent rose behind Kael, its scales catching the light with a faint purple iridescence, like oil on water. Its eyes were deep violet, slitted and predatory, and its aura radiated outward — Mana Heart Rank 5. Its fangs glistened with a viscous substance that dripped onto the ground, hissing softly where it touched stone.
The serpent struck.
Its head shot forward like a black arrow, fangs wide, aiming directly for Maren. She was still recovering from the gravity push, her sword raised too slowly, her eyes widening in terror —
A kinetic blast slammed into the serpent’s side, deflecting its strike by mere centimeters. The fangs buried themselves in the ground where Maren’s head had been a heartbeat before.
Roderick stood with his hand outstretched, frowning.
From the intel on the young lord, I was sure he had no summons except for the wolf. Where the hell did he get this dark serpent from?
Kael had spent weeks fighting the creature in the Shadow World before finally taming it. Its use was quite limited — it only possessed corrosive poison abilities, nothing versatile. But what it lacked in variety, it made up for in sheer intimidation value. And in a fight like this, psychology mattered.
His eyes shimmered, then blazed purple as Spirit Eyes of the Dark Emperor activated, the world sharpening into crystalline detail around him. Kael clapped his hands together.
"Nice one, Roderick." His smile was cold and amused. "It seems you possess two abilities. You must be the killing blade." He tilted his head. "Surely, Felix values you. If not, your death would be a waste of my time."
The three servants frowned.
"Shut the fuck up!", Gale said as he attacked.
He exploded forward, daggers flashing in both hands. Wind swirled around him, boosting his speed beyond normal limits, turning him into a blur of steel and fury. He closed the distance in a heartbeat and struck — one dagger aimed at Kael’s throat, the other slicing toward his abdomen.
Kael didn’t move from his spot. His fingers flicked outward.
Lightning Fang. Lightning Fang. Lightning Fang.
Three bolts of crackling electricity erupted toward Gale. The assassin twisted mid-charge, wind spinning around him to redirect the lightning — a clever application of elemental manipulation. The bolts curved away harmlessly.
But the shadow serpent was already moving.
It lunged at Roderick, who barely dodged, throwing himself sideways as the serpent’s fangs gouged trenches in the dirt where he’d stood. Maren rushed to join Gale, both of them converging on Kael from opposite sides.
Twin wind blasts screamed toward him.
Kael raised one hand. Gravity Push. The attacks collided with an invisible wall and dispersed. Before either servant could react, lightning crackled across his skin — Lightning Body — and he drew the Void Edge blades from his storage ring.
He became a storm of black steel and white lightning.
Gale swung his daggers in a crossing slash. Kael’s blades caught both strikes, the impact sending shockwaves rippling through the air. CLANG. CLANG. Gale’s eyes widened — Kael hadn’t moved an inch.
Maren attacked from behind. Kael spun, one blade parrying her sword while the other sliced toward her throat. She ducked, wind pushing her backward, and Gale immediately pressed the advantage with another flurry of strikes.
Kael’s hands blurred. A single hand sign.
Two shadow clones materialized from the darkness. One engaged Maren, forcing her on the defensive. The other flanked Gale, striking at his blind spots.
The real Kael stood in the center of the chaos, barely moving.
They attacked him with everything they had. Wind slashes. Kinetic blasts. Coordinated strikes designed to overwhelm. Their attacks screamed through the air, tearing up the street, smashing into buildings.
PAM. PAM. CRASH. BOOM.
None of it touched him.
His Void Edge blades moved with mechanical precision, deflecting, redirecting, countering. His Tier 4 Late body cultivation made him faster, stronger, more durable than any of them. Their attacks couldn’t break through his guard. Their weapons couldn’t pierce his defenses. He moved like a ghost between their strikes, untouchable, unbothered.
The tavern behind them didn’t survive.
CRASH. A wind blast obliterated the front wall. BOOM. A lightning fang detonated the roof. CRACK. The shadow serpent’s tail swept through the support beams, and the entire structure groaned, tilted, and collapsed in a cloud of dust and splintered wood.
Gale lunged through the debris, screaming with desperate fury, both daggers raised for a killing blow —
Kael’s blade caught him in the throat.
Schlick.
Gale’s momentum carried him forward onto the Void Edge, the blade punching through his neck and out the other side. His eyes went wide, then vacant. Kael twisted the blade and withdrew it. Gale’s body dropped like a puppet with cut strings.
Maren froze. Her sword trembled in her hands.
Kael was already moving. One step. Two. He closed the distance before she could react, his other blade sweeping in a horizontal arc.
Swish.
Maren’s head separated from her shoulders.
Roderick ran for his life terrified as what he just witness as he broke free from the serpent.
He didn’t look back. Didn’t try to fight. Pure survival instinct drove his legs as he sprinted out of the ruined tavern, past the gawking onlookers, toward the edge of the city where the forest began.
Kael moved as he chased after him.
Shadow Step.
He reappeared twenty meters ahead of his previous position. Lightning Body activated, lightning crackling along his limbs, and he became a blur of motion — a streak of white and black that tore through the streets faster than any eye could track.
To the outsiders watching, they saw nothing but a flash.
Roderick burst out of the city limits, the tree line looming ahead — dense forest, darkness, potential cover. If he could reach it, he might —
Kael materialized in front of him.
The shadow serpent coiled behind Kael, its purple eyes fixed on Roderick with hungry anticipation.
Roderick skidded to a halt, chest heaving, terror written across his face. He looked at the serpent. He looked at Kael. He looked at the forest that was so close yet so impossibly far.
"If I’m going to die," he snarled, kinetic energy building around his fists, "I’ll take you with me, monster!"
Kael smirked. "Who are you to call me a monster?" He tilted his head, his purple eyes gleaming. "Don’t insult me. I am the devil."
He raised his hand. The shadow serpent dissolved, melting back into his shadow and returning to the Shadow World.
"And don’t worry. I don’t even need the serpent to defeat the likes of you."
Roderick roared and launched himself forward, kinetic energy concentrated in his leading leg — a devastating kick capable of shattering anything in its path.
Kael didn’t dodge.
He raised his forearm and blocked.
THUD.
The impact sent cracks spider-webbing through the ground beneath Kael’s feet, but he didn’t move. His arm didn’t budge. With Tier 4 Late body cultivation, withstanding attacks from even Late Mana Heart realm cultivators was possible — let alone a weaker Rank 6.
Roderick’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Kael punched forward.
Roderick met it with a kinetic-charged fist of his own. The collision produced a shockwave that flattened the grass and sent loose debris flying.
BOOM.
They exchanged blows at a ridiculous speed — fist meeting fist, kick meeting kick, each impact clearing trees in a widening circle of destruction.
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.
The forest around them became a killing ground of shattered trunks and uprooted earth.
Kael feinted left, then drove his knee into Roderick’s abdomen with bone-crunching force.
CRACK.
Roderick doubled over, blood spraying from his mouth. Before he could recover, Kael’s kick caught him in the chest and sent him hurtling backward like a cannonball. He crashed through two trees before slamming into a third, the trunk cracking from the impact.
Kael raised his hand, fingers crossed. Lightning gathered in the sky above.
SILENCE.
A massive bolt of electricity crashed down like divine judgment. Roderick screamed and poured kinetic energy into his legs, launching himself sideways with desperate speed — barely escaping the blast radius as the lightning obliterated the spot where he’d been lying.
But Kael was already there.
Lightning Body.
He intercepted Roderick mid-dodge, his fist connecting with the servant’s face with the force of a freight train.
CRACK.
Roderick’s head snapped backward. His body flew through the air, crashed through another tree, and slammed into the ground in a heap of broken branches and torn earth.
Kael flexed his hands, rolling his shoulders.
Nice. My physical stats are really insane right now.
