Chapter 226: Soul Techniques
A spaceship cut through the void between stars, its hull gleaming against the darkness of unclaimed space. Inside the cabin, Aria sat in a lotus position on the floor, her eyes closed, her breathing slow and measured. Mana circulated through her meridians in a controlled loop, her cultivation steady and focused.
The Shadow Guild Master sat across from her, legs crossed, watching Aria with an expression that looked almost like nostalgia.
A few hours passed before Aria opened her eyes. Violet irises flickered in the dim cabin light as she turned to the woman across from her.
"Master, where are we going?"
The Shadow Guild Master smiled. "We are going to a very special place outside the Western Universe, Sector 3. If you plan to keep up with Lord Da— I mean Kael, you also have to be pushed to your absolute limits. When Kael comes back, he will be even stronger and you need to keep up too."
She paused, her gaze drifting toward the viewport where stars blurred past.
"Besides, I would like to see an old friend of mine."
Aria pouted. "Alright."
She closed her eyes again and resumed her meditation, but her thoughts wandered. What is Kael doing right now?
A few days had passed since the Blood Pit duels.
Kael sat cross-legged at the bottom of the Nesh Clan’s soul well — a subterranean chamber accessible through a narrow root tunnel beneath Goran’s home. The well was like a misty lake. Dense, pale purple vapor pooled on the chamber floor, rising in slow spirals that drifted toward the ceiling before fading into nothing. The mist was soul force — raw, unrefined, saturated with the concentrated soul energy that had seeped into the earth from Khazul-Vael crater over millennia. Sitting in it was like standing waist-deep in warm water, except the water wasn’t wet and it didn’t touch the skin. It seeped through and settled directly into the consciousness.
The Breath of the Deep Green technique guided the process. Kael cycled the ambient soul force through the specialized meridian loop in his brain, refining it, compressing it, adding it to his growing reservoir. Each cycle was faster than the last. Each cycle added more than the one before.
A strong aura of soul force exploded from Kael.
The mist in the chamber rippled outward, disturbed by the sudden pressure, before slowly settling back into its lazy spirals. Kael opened his eyes.
His reptilian pupils contracted, then expanded. The world looked different — sharper, more layered. He could feel the walls of the chamber not just as physical objects but as presences with weight and texture in his soul sense. He could feel the root tunnel above him, the moss growing along its walls, the faint life signatures of insects nesting in the cracks.
He extended his soul sense outward. Fifteen meters. Twenty. Twenty-three. Twenty-five.
25 meters. The entire area of the soul well was covered in his perception.
A month in this soul well and I can probably reach the Peak of the Soul Awakening realm.
The range of any normal soul cultivator at the Mid Stage was usually between 10 to 14 meters. Kael was nearly double that. His broken and rebuilt soul structure continued to overperform, concentrating soul force into a denser, more potent form than intact souls could achieve.
Kael stood and stretched. Two weeks since I arrived here.
He had secretly been investigating why the Vorns lost contact with the tribe’s territory. The silence was the entire reason for his mission, yet no one in the Nesh Clan seemed to know anything about it. Even Goran deflected the question every time Kael raised it — changing the subject, offering vague answers, or simply pretending he hadn’t heard.
Something was wrong. Kael could feel it. But the answers weren’t in the Nesh Clan settlement.
Kael went to the Blood Pit for rights over the soul wells for the week.
Nobody wanted to challenge him.
Word had spread after his fights with Dravak and Thessik. The Nesh Clan members looked at him differently now — not with the dismissive tolerance they’d shown Finesh before, but with a quiet wariness.
According to rumors circulating among the clans, the inheritance ground at the center of Khazul-Vael could grant a cultivator a direct jump to the Soul Manifestation realm. But nobody knew when it would open again — the information was restricted to the Patriarch and possibly some of the family heads.
Kael returned to Finesh’s room, locked the door, and inscribed his silencing and perception-blocking runes. Then he removed the Mask of a Thousand Faces and set it aside.
His own face stared back from the bone mirror.
He accessed the System shop and navigated to the soul techniques section.
MORTAL GRADE
Soul Flare — 1,500 SC
Releases a burst of raw soul force in a 2-meter radius. Causes disorientation, headache, and momentary loss of focus. Does not damage the soul itself. More effective against grouped weak enemies than single targets. Range: 2 meters | Cooldown: 30 seconds
Soul Whisper — 3,000 SC
Projects a voice directly into a target’s mind within 15 meters. The target hears the words inside their skull. Cannot be blocked by physical barriers. Useful for communication or psychological warfare. Range: 15 meters | Cooldown: None
Kael scrolled past the remaining Mortal Grade techniques — most were too basic to warrant attention — and moved to the Earth Grade section.
EARTH GRADE
Soul Spike — 2,000 SC
Fires a concentrated spike of soul force at a target within 10 meters. Causes moderate soul pain and a 2-second disruption of focus. Can break weak soul defenses. Range: 10 meters | Cooldown: 15 seconds
Soul Rip — 3,500 SC
Tears at the target’s soul structure on contact. Causes significant soul pain and can create minor cracks in souls below Soul Core stage. Requires touching the target’s head or channeling from within 1 meter. Range: 1 meter or touch | Cooldown: 2 minutes
Soul Shield — 2,500 SC
Forms a barrier of condensed soul force that absorbs soul-based attacks. Withstands up to 3 Soul Awakening stage attacks before shattering. Does not block physical or mana attacks. Duration: 30 seconds or until destroyed | Cooldown: 5 minutes
He moved to the Sky Grade section.
SKY GRADE
Soul Veil — 4,000 SC
Completely hides the user’s soul presence from soul sense detection. Duration: 5 minutes | Cooldown: 15 minutes
Soul Barrage — 5,000 SC
Fires 12 concentrated soul spikes in rapid succession at targets within 20 meters. Can target multiple enemies or focus all spikes on a single target. Devastating against grouped enemies with weak soul defenses. Range: 20 meters | Cooldown: 3 minutes
Soul Severing Blade — 9,000 SC
Channels soul force into a weapon, allowing the next strike to cut at the target’s soul directly. Bypasses physical defenses, body cultivation, and mana shields. Can create significant cracks in souls up to one stage above the user. Range: Weapon reach | Cooldown: 5 minutes
