Chapter 645 - 641: Boss Lü Is Here
"Brother Leng, don’t be too upset."
Lu Yuanbin’s eyes reddened. He looked over at Leng Yuan, who was staring intently at An Dongyang and Old Nine. He assumed that Brother Leng was planning to get revenge for him, and he was deeply moved.
"Don’t go looking for trouble with An Dongyang. It’s not worth it."
He wiped at his eyes, trying to force his tears back. He looked completely dejected.
Leng Yuan caught sight of a few people approaching out of the corner of his eye. When he turned his head, he saw Lu Yuanbin’s eyes were as red as a rabbit’s. He was at a loss for words.
"Who said I was going to go after An Dongyang?"
Lu Yuanbin was speechless.
’Seriously? Do I really mean so little to Brother Leng?’
’And here I was, worried that Brother Leng would actually go after An Dongyang. Turns out I was just getting ahead of myself.’
Lu Yuanbin felt a surge of indignation. Just as he was about to say something, he saw several men in the distance walk up to An Dongyang. They acted chummy, draping their arms over his shoulders. A couple of other men appeared next to Old Nine as well.
Lu Yuanbin was speechless again.
"That An Dongyang is so shameless! Finding one false witness was bad enough, but now he’s actually found five or six more people? This is just despicable!"
He couldn’t take it anymore. ’That An Dongyang has completely lost his mind.’
Wang Laoer also looked righteously indignant, but as he continued to watch, he realized something wasn’t right.
’Why do those guys look so familiar?’
He rubbed his eyes and took a closer look. He recognized them.
’Isn’t that Boss Lü from the casino?’
’What are they doing here?’
Wang Laoer’s mind whirred, and it all clicked. An Dongyang owed Boss Lü a gambling debt of one thousand yuan. Back then, a textile factory worker only made fifteen yuan a month, and a pound of napa cabbage cost two fen. One thousand yuan was an absolute fortune.
’This is perfect,’ he thought. ’If Boss Lü is going after An Dongyang, he probably won’t have time to cause trouble for Brother Lu.’
At this thought, Wang Laoer couldn’t help but glance over at Leng Yuan.
He didn’t know Leng Yuan well, but he knew Lu Yuanbin worshipped him. He had always assumed it was because Leng Yuan had once saved Lu Yuanbin’s life. But now, seeing all this unfold, his opinion of Leng Yuan was changing.
’Brother Leng was the one who had Boss Lü notified.’
He had wondered about it at the time. ’Why are we notifying Boss Lü when we’re just coming to pick up Brother Lu and take him home?’
Now, he finally understood Leng Yuan’s reason for contacting Boss Lü.
’But doesn’t this prove that Leng Yuan predicted that An Dongyang wouldn’t let things go?’
’The man is incredible.’
While Wang Laoer was still processing all this, the men in the distance grabbed An Dongyang and Old Nine and began dragging them away.
Both of their faces were deathly pale; it was obvious they were being taken against their will.
Unfortunately for them, the only other people around were Leng Yuan, Lu Yuanbin, and their friends, and none of them were kind enough to step in and help.
Once An Dongyang had been dragged away, Leng Yuan spoke calmly. "Let’s go. Time to head back."
Lu Yuanbin was completely bewildered.
"Wait a minute, weren’t those the witnesses An Dongyang brought? Why did he end up leaving with them?"
Leng Yuan ignored Lu Yuanbin’s question and simply walked on ahead. Wang Laoer knew what was really going on, but he also knew this wasn’t the place to talk. He simply grabbed the bewildered Lu Yuanbin and followed.
When they got home, Lu Yuanbin saw the tidied-up house and his brothers waiting in the yard. With tears welling in his eyes again, he walked up and gave each of them a light punch on the chest.
"You’ve all been through a lot for me these past few days."
’He knew that while he was ’inside,’ these brothers of his must have been running themselves ragged on his behalf.’
His brothers all shook their heads. "It was nothing. It’s what we’re here for."
If it hadn’t been for Lu Yuanbin giving them a chance back in the day, their families might have starved to death. For that alone, they would be grateful to him for the rest of their lives.
