Chapter 586 - 582: Asking Chen Xiaolan for Help
For the second period, Gu Jiaojiao had to trade classes with the seventh-grade math teacher.
Gu Jiaojiao taught Language Arts.
The only subjects at the school were Language Arts, math, and physics, so the teachers rotated through the classes.
Occasionally, a teacher would also teach two periods in a row.
The commune school was so crowded because there weren’t many schools around. Children from all the nearby villages were sent there, making the student body seem large.
Regardless, by the end of the day, Gu Jiaojiao was quite happy with her teaching, though her voice was a little strained from overuse.
When she got back, she quickly brewed some throat-soothing herbal tea and drank two cups, which finally brought her some relief.
Sweet Girl had made dinner, so it was already on the table when Gu Jiaojiao got home.
After dinner, Gu Jiaojiao went to Chen Xiaolan’s house.
Chen Xiaolan was only twenty years old. She was a newlywed, a girl from the next village over, which wasn’t far from Qingshan Team.
She had a round face with slightly chubby cheeks that made her look very cute.
When Gu Jiaojiao arrived, Chen Xiaolan was in the yard, herding the chickens into their coop.
She skillfully herded the three chickens inside and shut the coop door. When she turned and saw Gu Jiaojiao standing at the gate, her eyes instantly lit up.
"Jiaojiao, did you come to see me?"
As she spoke, she quickly washed her hands, wiped them on her apron, and then walked over to Gu Jiaojiao.
She said, a bit embarrassed, "Sorry, my hands are a little dirty from my chores."
Then, she glanced around the yard and whispered, "Jiaojiao, that idea you gave me last time was brilliant. My mother-in-law hasn’t been pressuring me at all lately."
Not only has she stopped pressuring me, she’s even started coaxing me, worried I’ll be unhappy about drinking my medicine.
Chen Xiaolan had been under so much less pressure recently.
And after drinking the tea powder Gu Jiaojiao had given her for a while, she felt like her skin had improved quite a bit!
Seeing how happy she was, Gu Jiaojiao was happy for her too. But just as she was about to state the reason for her visit, Chen Xiaolan’s mother-in-law walked out of the house. Upon seeing Gu Jiaojiao, she immediately and enthusiastically invited her inside.
Gu Jiaojiao was pulled into the house, completely baffled.
Chen Xiaolan was stunned.
’Why is my mother-in-law suddenly so warm toward Jiaojiao? I don’t think they’ve even met!’
It wasn’t just Chen Xiaolan; Gu Jiaojiao was a bit stunned herself.
She watched as Chen Xiaolan’s mother-in-law beamed, her eyes crinkling as she looked Gu Jiaojiao up and down. For a moment, Gu Jiaojiao didn’t know what to say.
"Gu Zhiqing, please, have a seat."
Chen Xiaolan’s mother-in-law, whose surname was Lin, enthusiastically gestured for Gu Jiaojiao to sit.
Gu Jiaojiao quickly replied, "Aunt Lin, I’m fine, really."
Aunt Lin looked at Gu Jiaojiao, and the more she looked, the more she believed the village rumors were true.
’This Gu Jiaojiao... she’s a lucky star.’
No one knew who had said it first, but once people started mulling it over, everyone came to believe it.
Before, Leng Yuan had been cold and aloof, keeping to himself and rarely interacting with the other villagers. Aside from Chen JianShe, he didn’t have any close friends.
But ever since he got married, Leng Yuan’s life had gotten much better.
His uncle, unheard from for years, had returned and turned out to be a high-ranking official. He and Jiaojiao had adopted Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang, and their days had become much more lively.
He had even built a thresher, and that machine had saved the entire harvest.
Now, Gu Jiaojiao had become a teacher. In just a few months, the Leng Family’s fortunes were clearly on the rise.
Everyone was saying that Gu Jiaojiao brought prosperity to her husband and was blessed with good fortune. So, she figured if Gu Jiaojiao spent more time with her daughter-in-law, some of that good luck might just rub off.
Of course, these were all things Chen Xiaolan’s mother-in-law was mulling over in her own head; she didn’t say any of it aloud.
If she had, Gu Jiaojiao truly wouldn’t have known whether to laugh or cry. After all, while one could argue about the other things, Leng Yuan’s uncle returning had absolutely nothing to do with her.
