Chapter 771 - 767: To Reason
"Well, Auntie Sun, what a coincidence. I’m someone who loves to reason things out. Since you do too, let’s hash it out right here and now."
Gu Jiaojiao had been worried she couldn’t take on two men by herself.
Now that her man was here, what the hell was there to be afraid of?
’Let’s take them on.’
All of a sudden, Mrs. Sun wasn’t feeling so confident anymore.
She glanced cautiously at Leng Yuan. This man was a terror, the kind of ruthless person who would beat his own uncle so badly that his parents wouldn’t recognize him.
Mrs. Sun glanced down at her own frame. ’I can’t take a beating!’
’Since I can’t win a physical fight, I can’t lose the argument.’
The most important thing in an argument is presence. As the old saying goes, either the east wind prevails over the west wind, or the west wind prevails over the east wind.
’I’ve lived this long; how could I be afraid of a youngster?’
Mrs. Sun spoke first. "You hit my daughter first! My daughter is pregnant, and you still dared to lay a hand on her! If anything happens to the baby in her belly, I definitely won’t let you... off."
Mrs. Sun had started off full of bluster, but as she spoke, Leng Yuan shot her a glare, and her powerful voice immediately trailed off.
Gu Jiaojiao took a step forward. "You saw me hit her, but did you not see her trying to hit me first? She blames me for her going back to her parents’ house. She blames me for your Sun family splitting up. At this rate, if she trips over a rock on the road one day, that’ll be my fault too. So from now on, whenever anyone has a bad day, they can just blame me. I might as well die from all the injustice!"
"Let everyone here be my witness today. Let’s talk it all out and see who is truly at fault."
"Auntie Sun just said you’re a family that values reason. If we’re in the right, we’re not afraid to have it all out in the open."
The commotion between Gu Jiaojiao and the Sun family quickly drew a crowd.
They were on the main road, which had been empty just a moment ago. In a flash, it was surrounded by onlookers.
Hearing Gu Jiaojiao’s words, the crowd couldn’t help but laugh.
An older woman spoke up directly, "Mrs. Sun, don’t you feel any shame saying that? The Sun family is famous for being unreasonable. If you were so reasonable, you wouldn’t have thrown yourself on the ground, insisted a bicycle hit you, and scammed that person out of a yuan."
This had happened several years ago. Mrs. Sun had gone to the county town where a kid, wobbly on a bicycle, nearly ran into her. It was only a near miss, but Mrs. Sun threw herself on the ground and refused to get up until she’d scammed a yuan out of the kid.
Plenty of people had seen it happen and said she was unscrupulous.
"Just the other day, you stole two green onions from my field!"
"Last time we went to buy peanuts together, you got there and said you’d forgotten your money. I paid for you, we split the peanuts, but you still haven’t paid me back."
"And the last time you dropped by my house, you swiped a head of cabbage on your way out!"
This Mrs. Sun was notorious for being a freeloader. Whenever she visited someone’s home, she would always filch some little thing. Nobody could say a word about it, because the moment they did, she would get right in their face and start cursing them out.
The things she said were so foul that other people were too embarrassed to even repeat them.
But Mrs. Sun was cunning. She only picked on unmarried girls and young wives. When she came across a truly feisty family, she didn’t dare try anything.
Gu Jiaojiao’s single challenge to "be reasonable" had opened the floodgates, prompting everyone to start attacking Mrs. Sun.
Despite all this, Mrs. Sun retorted without the slightest hint of shame, her face not flushing in the least. "All of you, shut your mouths! This has nothing to do with you! Today, this is between me and Gu Zhiqing."
The crowd was instantly infuriated. They wished they could go up and slap her a couple of times, but they were afraid she’d just use it as an excuse to scam them.
Seeing that she had intimidated them, Mrs. Sun grew rather smug. She even wished someone would hit her just once; it would be an easy way to make some money.
