Chapter 625 - 621: Reassurance
Xia Qiuming discussed the matter of the breeding boars with Leng Yuan, and they arranged a time to go pick up the piglets. He also reminded Leng Yuan that Lu Yuanbin’s case would take time and that he should just go home and wait for news.
After hanging up, Leng Yuan didn’t go home. Instead, he turned and headed for the neighborhood where the An Family lived.
An Dongyang had been punched by Leng Yuan, and the principal had even taken Leng Yuan’s side. This made An Dongyang furious.
He’d never been so humiliated before.
In his foul mood, he immediately called up a few of his cronies to go drinking.
And now, he was heading home very late.
It was around ten o’clock at night, and the streets were pitch-black. Normally, the moonlight would have been bright enough to see clearly.
But tonight was exceptionally dark. Only a sliver of the moon was visible; the rest was completely obscured by thick clouds.
The wind was fierce. Perhaps it was a late spring cold snap, because it felt even more bone-chilling than the winter gales.
An Dongyang had had a bit too much to drink. He stumbled along, using a wall for support.
This clearly wasn’t the first time he’d been in this state, so he wasn’t scared in the slightest.
Just as he was nearing his house, a tall figure emerged from a small alley, carrying a tattered old basket, and shoved it straight over An Dongyang’s head.
The basket was something someone had tossed by a doorway, probably because they didn’t need it anymore. It was filthy.
Now, however, it was proving useful.
"Who—?"
With his head covered, the pain sobered An Dongyang up a little. He had just managed to shout one word when a powerful kick sent him, basket and all, crashing into a nearby wall.
An Dongyang collapsed to the ground and frantically tried to get back up.
But his assailant gave him no chance to rise. Pinning the basket down, a merciless flurry of kicks and punches rained down on his body.
An Dongyang was completely sober now. He thought he’d glimpsed several figures just before, and judging by the flurry of limbs, there had to be at least three people.
"Who are you people? Don’t you know who I am? I’m An Dongyang, and my father is An Mingjiang! You dare treat me like this? I’ll have my dad round you all up!"
Leng Yuan shot An Dongyang a scornful look. ’Still trying to threaten people with his dad at a time like this,’ he thought. ’Is he afraid he won’t die fast enough?’
Good thing Leng Yuan didn’t want to kill him. Otherwise, those words alone would have been enough to get him crippled, if not killed.
He gave An Dongyang a few more vicious kicks before speaking in a rough, disguised voice. "An Dongyang, I don’t care if your dad is the king of heaven. You owe our boss gambling money, and you’re going to pay it back. I’m giving you three days. Pay back everything you owe, principal and interest. Otherwise, I’m chopping off your hand."
An Dongyang was the type who loved to eat, drink, and indulge himself. He had plenty of shady friends and dabbled a bit in both gambling and other vices.
In fact, very few people knew that An Dongyang had lost a lot of money gambling, and his creditors had been hounding him for the debt for the past two days.
Leng Yuan had investigated this and decided to pose as a debt collector to give An Dongyang a thorough beating.
Seeing An Dongyang’s pathetic, wimpy state, he gave him a few more vicious kicks for good measure before striding away.
As he left, Leng Yuan used two walking sticks. The ends had been modified so that when they struck the ground, they sounded just like human footsteps.
An Dongyang lay on the ground, beaten too badly to get up, but he clearly heard the footsteps of three or four people retreating.
He waited until the sounds had faded away before pulling the basket off his head. He spat out a mouthful of blood and saliva, thinking how incredibly unlucky he was.
He struggled to his feet.
Normally, if he got beaten up, he would have told his father right away. But this time, it was debt collectors. If his dad found out he owed a thousand yuan to a gambling den, he’d probably beat him to death himself.
Helpless, An Dongyang could only force his battered body to move, stumbling the rest of the way home.
