Chapter 654 - 650: Nowhere to Strike
An Dongyang’s mother froze for a second before hurrying after him.
An Mingjiang kicked open An Dongyang’s door. "An Dongyang, you rebellious whelp! I’ll beat you to death today...!"
He stormed in, raising a feather duster, but when he saw An Dongyang, he almost didn’t recognize him.
Inside the room, An Dongyang, who had just been seen by a doctor and had his wounds treated, was covered in bandages. His head and face were wrapped as well. Any exposed skin was black and blue. His face was horribly swollen, and one eye was puffed so completely shut he couldn’t open it.
His words were slurred. "Dad, wh-what is it?"
An Mingjiang was speechless.
For a moment, he wasn’t sure if he should even bring the feather duster down. There wasn’t a single uninjured spot on An Dongyang’s body. Even if he wanted to hit him, he wouldn’t know where to land the blow.
He had just returned, seething with rage after a long lecture from his own father and second uncle, only to find his son beaten to this state. A suffocating knot of anger lodged itself in his chest.
After a long moment, An Mingjiang finally suppressed his fury and asked, "Who did this to you?"
An Dongyang said nothing.
If he told him who did it, his gambling and the money he owed Boss Lü would surely be exposed.
If his father knew he had gambled away so much money, he would definitely kill him.
So, An Dongyang kept his mouth shut.
But Xu Wenwan, who had been weeping off to the side, heard An Mingjiang’s question and immediately gave An Dongyang a shove.
"Dongyang, hurry and tell Dad who did this to you! Let him get revenge for you."
She had been asking An Dongyang for ages, but he refused to say a word. Now that his father-in-law was asking, surely he would talk.
That shove nearly made An Dongyang die of anger. ’This idiot! If I could tell him, wouldn’t I have already?’
He wasn’t talking because he *couldn’t*. Xu Wenwan was completely clueless.
Oblivious to An Dongyang’s predicament, Xu Wenwan saw he wasn’t speaking and pushed him again. "Dongyang, Dad is asking you! Just say something!"
An Dongyang was furious enough to die. He wanted nothing more than to get up and beat Xu Wenwan to a pulp, but it hurt just to move. He could only roar at her, "Just shut up!"
Then, he looked up at An Mingjiang and gave a strained laugh. "I fell."
An Mingjiang was speechless.
’Do I look like an idiot? How can you fall and get your face covered in bruises and an eye swollen shut?’
He couldn’t help but guess, "Did Leng Yuan do this?"
He figured that since Leng Yuan was so capable and An Dongyang had already gone looking for trouble with him, it was entirely possible he’d sent someone to retaliate.
An Dongyang’s face was a mask of shock. "Dad, how do you know about Leng Yuan?"
Seeing his son’s shocked expression, An Mingjiang assumed he had guessed correctly, and his anger instantly subsided.
His son had caused trouble for Leng Yuan, and now Leng Yuan had sent people to beat up his son. As far as he was concerned, the score was settled.
Without another word, he turned and left.
An Dongyang was a bit stunned. He had thought his father would grill him until he got to the bottom of it, but he never expected it to be resolved so easily.
But it seemed his father had misunderstood, thinking Leng Yuan was the one who’d had him beaten.
’It wasn’t Leng Yuan, but if Dad wants to think that, then let him!’
After all, he had no way of explaining what really happened.
It was, he had to admit, a perfect misunderstanding.
After learning Leng Yuan’s identity, An Mingjiang told his wife to watch An Dongyang closely and forbid him from going out and causing any more trouble.
An Dongyang’s mother didn’t understand. Her son had been beaten this badly, yet An Mingjiang wasn’t thinking about getting even for him. Instead, he was saying all this useless stuff.
"Our son gets beaten up, and you’re just going to let it go?"
