Chapter 405 - 232: The Son-in-law’s Gift
At the entrance of the Law Enforcement Hall.
Jiang Man asked, quite curious, "That’s it?"
He had only been inside for a short while before being told the inspection was over.
He hadn’t really felt anything.
They hadn’t even asked him any questions.
And just like that, it was finished.
It was rather surprising. He had thought he would be kept here for a day or two.
He’d planned to take the opportunity to see what kind of information the Zhenyue Bureau had.
But unexpectedly, he was out before he even had a chance to sit down.
"Yes, that’s all. We just needed to check your physical condition and ensure there was no aura of an Evil God," Ren Qian explained.
Jiang Man took out his Token. "Aren’t you going to take this and inspect it?"
Ren Qian shook his head. "Junior Brother, you can keep that. From now on, I’ll be your point of contact for matters like this. You don’t need to report to anyone else without authorization from above.
"After all, you’ve already infiltrated their ranks. We can’t let anyone else know.
"Additionally, we will seal all information about you. Be careful on the inside and don’t expose yourself."
Jiang Man fell silent for a moment.
’I was probably exposed the moment I was chosen.’
’I wonder how many people know my identity.’
But he didn’t worry too much about it. As long as it didn’t affect his Cultivation, it didn’t matter if they knew.
"For the most part, you can handle any issues that come up on your own. However, the Sect may sometimes ask you to gather information. For instance, the Sect hopes you can establish a foothold quickly, then use the people on the inside to investigate a new Evil God faction that has recently emerged," Ren Qian said.
They walked along a path, with Talismans floating in the air around them.
"A new Evil God?" Jiang Man was a bit surprised.
Ren Qian nodded and explained, "Yes. There were some signs before, but now they’ve fully surfaced. They’re active in remote areas, and we haven’t been able to capture the aura of their Evil God.
"But based on some clues, we know this faction appeared very recently. We don’t know which Evil God they serve.
"They have a distinct characteristic: they call for equality in the Immortal Dao, insisting that the Immortal Sects should lift their restrictions, publicize all Magic Skills, and share their achievements.
"They claim this is the only way to promote the great prosperity of the Immortal Dao, rather than confining the right to cultivate to a select few.
"They call themselves the Sun and Moon Immortal Path.
"Coexistence, symbiosis, sun and moon in harmony.
"Forging the Immortal Path together."
Jiang Man was taken aback. That did sound rather heretical.
Evil Gods were actually quite rare. An ordinary person wouldn’t come into contact with one, even after entering the Inner Sect.
He had been with Old Huang since he was young, and later came into contact with Meng Qiewei. After that, things spiraled out of control.
This time, his contact with the Ling Hua Immortal Spirit had brought him to the attention of the Zhenyue Bureau.
But even so, he knew very little about Evil Gods.
This was the first time he had heard of an Evil God’s doctrine.
He had always thought Evil Gods just hid in the shadows, accumulating power.
"So my mission is to use the Ling Hua Immortal Spirit’s subordinates to find these people from the Sun and Moon Immortal Path?" Jiang Man asked.
"That’s right," Ren Qian said with a nod. "If you need any support, feel free to ask."
"I need Spiritual Source support," Jiang Man said immediately.
"Here’s ten thousand." Ren Qian generously gave him ten thousand.
Jiang Man was silent for a moment before asking, "How much do I get for finding them?"
"Fifty thousand," Ren Qian said, then paused. "Fifty thousand per person."
Jiang Man’s expression turned serious. "Leave it to me. The Sect’s business is my business."
Ren Qian smiled. "Then we’ll await your good news, Junior Brother. We won’t interfere with your methods. I imagine you don’t like being tied down."
Jiang Man’s abilities were plain for all to see. Interfering would likely do more harm than good.
Since he was within the Sect, there was basically no danger.
So he could act freely.
He didn’t need any restrictions.
Before leaving, Jiang Man asked if his restrictions could be lifted.
He was refused.
Jiang Man didn’t pay it much mind and departed using Sword Control.
He had originally planned to head back first.
But after a moment’s hesitation, he headed in Ji Meng’s direction.
Soon, he stopped in front of Ji Meng’s courtyard and, without hesitation, knocked gently on the door.
After a short wait, the door slowly swung open.
It was Ji Meng who opened it.
Jiang Man was rather curious. "Miss Ji Meng? Why are you the one opening the door?"
Seeing Jiang Man, Ji Meng smiled. "Is it improper?"
"Not really. It’s just that as a young lady of your status, I didn’t think you’d have to open the door yourself." Jiang Man glanced at the hair behind her head and added, "Also, I didn’t hear a Silver Bell. Are you not wearing it today?"
"I accidentally broke it yesterday." Ji Meng stepped aside to let him in. "How long have you been back, Young Master Jiang?"
"I just got back today. I came straight here to find you after leaving the Law Enforcement Hall," Jiang Man said with a smile as he walked inside. "I was eager to give you a gift and see if you liked it."
Ji Meng clasped her hands behind her back, her steps light and cheerful. She looked at Jiang Man with a wide smile. "And here I thought you were in a hurry to return the *Thirty-Six Books of Ascension*. Borrowing it for a day costs a fair bit of Spiritual Source, you know."
Realization dawned on Jiang Man. "I’d completely forgotten you mentioned that."
As he spoke, Jiang Man took out the *Thirty-Six Array Patterns of the Hall*. "I’ve finished reading all of it. I can return it to you now, Miss Ji Meng.
"Next, you can teach me how to apply them."
Taking the book, Ji Meng remarked, "You certainly don’t stand on ceremony, do you?"
Jiang Man didn’t take the bait, instead asking, "Was that red fruit tasty?"
"The flavor was decent. Eating it should be helpful for my Cultivation," Ji Meng said as she put the book away.
By now, they had reached a table and chairs.
Jiang Man took the opportunity to pull out two more. "Here, have one."
Ji Meng accepted the fruit and couldn’t help but laugh. "It seems your trip was quite fruitful, Young Master Jiang."
Jiang Man nodded. His gains had indeed been substantial.
He paused, then told Ji Meng she could go ahead and eat.
As Jiang Man ate his, he found it refreshingly sweet and delicious. It was truly very good.
Moreover, a warm current seemed to nourish his body, Spirit, and Cultivation.
It really was good stuff.
