The End of the Immortal Path

Watching the Demon Beast shatter and collapse, the man landed in front of Jiang Man.

He felt there was something strange about the person before him.

He couldn’t make out the other person’s face.

Nor could he sense his aura.

"Someone from the Zhenyue Bureau?" he asked.

This person was extremely powerful and possessed a certain resistance to the power of an Ancient Well Type Evil God.

Otherwise, it would have been impossible for him to crush a Heart Spirit Demon Beast with a single punch.

But the man had to be relatively young.

’That one question he asked revealed a desire to show off.’

’So arrogant.’

’Young people, or those who’ve just reached this Realm, are often like that.’

"Yes," Jiang Man nodded.

"Your Token?" the man asked.

Jiang Man took out his Token.

"A Jade Token? Is it temporary?" the man asked, somewhat surprised.

"Mhm," Jiang Man nodded nonchalantly.

He was, in fact, temporary personnel.

’Once I kill Meng Qiewei and the Bai Family Ancestor, this Token will be useless.’

’But his token doesn’t seem to be made of jade.’

He didn’t ask any further.

’Asking too many questions would just reveal my ignorance.’

"My name is Nan Yue. My orders state that three people will be coming to this area. They are all to cooperate with my mission as part of their training." Nan Yue looked at Jiang Man and continued, "You must be the third one. In any case, these are my orders. You need to cooperate with me."

As he spoke, the man used a Copper Token to send the directive from his superior.

Sure enough, he was required to cooperate with the man.

But Jiang Man wasn’t sure if he was one of the three.

Since he answered to Ting Fengyin, it was possible he could bypass these procedures.

So he answered honestly, "I’m not sure if I’m one of them, but I can cooperate with your mission."

The man didn’t seem to mind.

As long as he was confirmed to be from the Zhenyue Bureau, it was fine.

Jiang Man then asked about the mission and also inquired about the opportunities for advancement.

"Are you mainly here for advancement?" Nan Yue asked.

"Yes," Jiang Man admitted with a nod.

"This area is within the sphere of influence of an Ancient Well Type Evil God, so advancement isn’t easy. However, opportunities for it are the easiest to find. They appear quite frequently under the influence of the Immortal Gate Formation."

"But the risks are also the greatest," Nan Yue added as a friendly warning.

Jiang Man nodded. "I’m not particularly afraid of the Ancient Well Type Evil God’s influence."

"I can tell." Recalling what had just happened, Nan Yue believed him.

The man wasn’t the least bit afraid of the Heart Spirit Demon Beast.

Nan Yue then began to explain his mission. "My task is simple. First off, the Demon Beasts here are subservient to certain Evil Gods, but those Evil Gods are all contained. While the Demon Beasts are a nuisance, they don’t have a major impact on their own."

"Recently, however, spies from other Evil Gods have infiltrated the ranks of the Demon Beasts. These spies could disrupt the balance here."

"So I need to find them as quickly as possible."

"And get some information from them."

"At the very least, I need to determine which Evil God they serve."

Jiang Man nodded. "Any leads?"

Nan Yue pointed to the shattered Demon Beast. "It swallowed quite a few things, including a Mirror Treasure that reflects certain images."

"We might get something out of it."

With that, he walked over to the Demon Beast’s corpse and sliced open its belly with his sword.

After rummaging around for a moment, he pulled out a Copper Mirror.

He inspected it with a Magic Skill, then casually tossed the Copper Mirror aside.

He left it for the next Demon Beast to swallow.

"Find anything?" Jiang Man asked.

"Yes. We need to find a red Demon Beast, one that likely uses a Charm Technique," Nan Yue said.

Jiang Man nodded. ’While completing the mission, I can also look for my own opportunity for advancement.’

But before he could dwell on it, Nan Yue spoke up. "There is one complication, though."

"What is it?" Jiang Man asked.

"This Demon Beast that uses the Charm Technique... it might be at the Primordial Spirit Level," Nan Yue said, sounding a bit resigned. "I’m at Golden Core Perfection, and so are the other two. What about you?"

Jiang Man replied with a sigh, "Me too."

Nan Yue thought for a moment. "Looks like we’ll have to use an Array. Let’s rendezvous with the other two first."

On the way, Nan Yue asked for Jiang Man’s name.

Jiang Man hesitated for a moment.

"A lot of people in the Zhenyue Bureau use codenames. Don’t you have one?" Nan Yue asked, genuinely curious.

Jiang Man had already made up his mind. "Fusheng."

Nan Yue nodded, then brought up the opportunities for advancement.

He explained that the other two were also here for these opportunities, but only one person could enter each one.

Therefore, they needed to decide on an order.

The order would be based on contribution: whoever contributed the most to the upcoming missions would go first.

The only exception was an opportunity found while operating alone.

That one would be yours to keep.

"Is it possible to find one alone?" Jiang Man asked.

Nan Yue smiled and shook his head. "If you’re looking for a pattern, then only I can find them."

Jiang Man gave a slight nod.

’Competing for rank... I’m good at that.’

He then asked if there were any ancient artifacts in the area.

"Well, there is an Evil God Statue," Nan Yue said.

He added that they would see it shortly and that Fusheng could take a look if he was interested.

Soon, they arrived before a massive statue.

The statue depicted a man looking up in thought, as if pondering the laws that govern heaven and earth.

By the statue, a man and a woman were studying an Array.

The woman looked to be in her early twenties, pretty and composed.

The man appeared to be in his late twenties and had a rugged look.

Sensing their return, they looked up, their gazes ultimately landing on Jiang Man.

They felt he was somehow dazzling, yet there was nothing remarkable about him.

They also couldn’t discern his appearance or his aura.

This was not an uncommon situation, so they paid it no mind.

"This is Fusheng," Nan Yue introduced. "He’s on a temporary assignment, so he must be our third. Like you two, he’s here to advance to the Primordial Spirit Realm."

Upon hearing this, the woman said, "Liu Mei."

The rugged man followed suit. "Night Shadow."

Nan Yue then explained the situation.

"We have two tasks right now: first, find this Demon Beast, and second, set up the Array." Nan Yue looked at Jiang Man and said, "Fusheng is particularly effective against Heart Spirit Demon Beasts, so he can handle any other types we encounter."
