Life is not just about the pediatric surgery in front of you, there’s also orthopedic surgery waiting for him.

The lazy donkey is harnessed, so it has to work obediently.

At this moment, Liu Yiqing came over, holding a mirror.

"Ready to officially start?" Liu Banxia asked with a smile.

"Actions speak louder than words, I’m all in." Liu Yiqing replied sternly.

"Don’t rush, this is a task that requires long-term guidance and patience," Liu Banxia nodded.

Liu Yiqing marched towards the elevator, full of vigor and confidence.

However, just as the elevator doors were about to close, Liu Banxia saw her pitiful look, which amused him. It seemed like she was fueled by a moment of courage— truly commendable.

"I saw Liu Yiqing getting into the elevator with a mirror, is she starting the attempt?" Liu Mingyu came over.

"Indeed, she finally summoned the courage, but we’ll see how effective it is. How about you? Why are you having lunch so late?" Liu Banxia asked with a smile.

"There were more follow-up patients to see, mostly involved taking and viewing scans, which took more time." Wu Mingyu replied.

"I hope Liu Yiqing’s method has some effect. I visited the patient yesterday, and the phantom pain occurred frequently, with a high pain index."

"There’s no way around it, unfortunately, it’s a common complication among amputees," Liu Banxia said.

"Maybe Liu Yiqing’s little method will have some effect; who knows if it’ll be fortuitous? Is his prosthetic almost ready?"

Wu Mingyu nodded, "The ordered prosthesis is quite good, comfortable enough, but slightly expensive. Luckily, the family can afford it."

"That’s rare; many people don’t have that option and have to use ordinary prosthetics. It’s really tough— they often get chafed by the amputated limb."

"What can you do, even if you despise money, you need it to get by, and life revolves around it."

"Wow, feeling quite reflective today, huh?" Liu Banxia said with a smile.

"Sigh... let’s not dwell on it; I need to attend to incoming patients. I have a pile of work this afternoon," Wu Mingyu said and wandered back to orthopedics.

Looking around the hall, by this time, the number of patients had significantly decreased. Even if not all six interns were at work today, it was manageable.

After all, the interns and resident doctors had undergone extensive training and were capable of handling consultations, with Shi Lei and Wei Yuan supervising.

Just as he was about to sit back down, Qi Wentai motioned to him.

"What’s up? Another emergency patient brought in?" Liu Banxia asked.

"A female patient was struck, blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen, low blood pressure, and some tachycardia," Qi Wentai replied.

"Alright, I’ll handle the admission," Liu Banxia nodded.

He glanced around, "Zhang Pengfei, Cui Jia, a collision injury patient, both of you will assist me in admitting her. I’ll oversee it."

Upon hearing him, the two of them were startled and became tense.

Tension aside, they had to get on with the work.

Following Liu Banxia to the entrance, they felt a bit uncertain as no one wanted to stand at the very front, causing a slight delay.

"What are you afraid of? I’m right here," Liu Banxia said.

They glanced at him uneasily; it was precisely because he was there that they felt so tense. If they were admitting patients with the six interns, they wouldn’t feel this way.

After a few seconds of "competition," Zhang Pengfei stepped to the front, just as the ambulance arrived.

"The patient was hit by an electric scooter, with blunt chest and abdomen trauma, likely a rib fracture. Blood pressure is 90/70, heart rate 110, peaking at 140. Family has been notified, no underlying conditions."

The paramedic pushing the patient reported.

"Rescue Room One."

Zhang Pengfei shouted excitedly, his voice a bit too loud.

The paramedic gave Liu Banxia a puzzled look. Liu Banxia nodded, indicating it was okay.

He understood that this was a training exercise.

"Don’t worry, you’re in the hospital now," Liu Banxia said to the patient.

The patient was not very conscious, as her condition wasn’t very good.

"One, two, three, transfer to bed. Connect the ECG, take an X-ray."

Zhang Pengfei instructed after entering the rescue room.

Though nervous at first, he was handling things well at the moment.

Many times, these are standard routines that can just be followed step by step.

After the X-ray, it showed a rib fracture, but not very severe. The serious issue was the chest X-ray showing a large white area.

Liu Banxia offered his judgment: it’s pleural effusion, possibly lung injury caused by the collision, leading to bleeding.

But he didn’t prompt these two, as some lessons are forgotten if spoon-fed and need self-discovery.

"Portable ultrasound," Cui Jia called out.

The nearby nurse quickly brought the portable ultrasound over.

Since it was a female patient, even though Zhang Pengfei initially took charge of the consultation, Cui Jia took the initiative for the examination, which was quite commendable.

"Teacher Liu, the breath sounds are a bit weak, there’s fluid in the left thoracic cavity, we need to insert a tube. No free fluid seen in the abdominal cavity, but the spleen is somewhat enlarged."

After the examination, Cui Jia said.

"How’s your tube insertion skills?" Liu Banxia still stood in place.

"Doctor Xu has guided us twice." Cui Jia said.

Liu Banxia nodded, indicating that this time it was her turn, and without guidance.

"Complete blood count, blood biochemistry, ECG, call the cardiothoracic department." Zhang Pengfei said.

Cui Jia also handed the tube insertion kit over at this point, although it seemed like nothing was wrong, the nurses in the emergency room also sensed her nervousness.

However, they couldn’t help, all they could do was prepare for the tube insertion beforehand.

Liu Banxia looked calm, checking the ECG monitor occasionally.

"Beep beep... Beep beep..."

Just as Cui Jia was about to do the chest tube insertion, the ECG monitor started beeping.

"Heart rate is increasing, blood oxygen and blood pressure are dropping." The nurse nearby quickly reported.

"Blood oxygen at 89, still dropping, need a tracheal tube insertion." Cui Jia shouted.

But now she hesitated a bit, needing both chest tube insertion and airway protection for the patient. Perhaps the thoracic condition affected the patient’s breathing.

"20 units of etomidate, 100 units of succinylcholine, intubation kit."

Zhang Pengfei, slightly stunned, responded at this moment.

"Blood oxygen at 83."

The nurse reminded again.

Zhang Pengfei was very nervous because Liu Banxia hadn’t said a word yet. Cui Jia was also nervous, for the same reason. And she was a bit dazed, unsure whether to perform the chest tube insertion now.

And Liu Banxia? Still hadn’t spoken, just stood in a corner of the emergency room, watching them.

"Complete the intubation, how’s the blood oxygen?"

Zhang Pengfei asked.

"Improving, currently at 90." The nurse replied.

"First give maximum oxygen, then decrease it." Zhang Pengfei said.

At this point, Cui Jia started moving, beginning the chest tube insertion on the patient.

Everyone in the emergency room was focused on her operation now.

Despite the slight awkwardness due to tension, she managed to successfully finish the chest tube insertion. After finishing, Cui Jia felt somewhat exhausted.

"Teacher Liu, the drainage volume doesn’t seem very large." Cui Jia said after a glance.

Liu Banxia nodded but didn’t speak.

This made Zhang Pengfei and Cui Jia even more uneasy, unsure

"How’s the patient’s condition?" Liang Xiaolin walked in at this moment.

Seeing her enter, both Cui Jia and Zhang Pengfei seemed to have seen a savior.

Seeing these two move aside as she entered, Liang Xiaolin was a bit puzzled.

But upon seeing Liu Banxia standing there silently, she understood, and after glancing at the chest tube insertion, she was clearer.

"Who did the chest tube insertion?" Liang Xiaolin asked.

"I..."

Cui Jia responded softly.

"You hesitated a little but did a good job. Is that the patient’s X-ray? What about the ultrasound scan results?" Liang Xiaolin asked.

"This was just taken; ultrasound showed fluid in the left chest, so we did the insertion. But currently, the patient’s blood oxygen hasn’t exceeded 95, maximum oxygen given." Cui Jia quickly replied.

"No fluid in the abdominal cavity but spleen enlargement, hmm..., planning a joint chest-abdominal CT soon to check for other damage."

"There might be lung contusions, probably due to substantial thoracic impact." Liang Xiaolin said.

"Let’s observe for a while, if there’s no improvement later, surgery might be necessary. However, open chest surgery is quite invasive; it’s best if we can avoid it."

Both of them again looked towards Liu Banxia, but he just walked out without saying anything.

"It’s over, it’s over, Teacher Liu must be very disappointed." Cui Jia said ruefully.

"Don’t overthink it, it’s your first independent patient admission, reaching this level is already commendable. You’ve done the blood crossmatch, right?" Liang Xiaolin casually asked.

"Oh no, I forgot, right, still need to do blood crossmatch and coagulation tests." Zhang Pengfei quickly said.

Then sweat started dripping from his forehead.

This was the most basic, how could he forget it? The patient’s injuries are so severe, there’s a high chance of going to surgery, how could he forget these two tests?

Does the patient have any underlying diseases? Seems like he forgot to ask? Did the paramedic mention it? Did they say anything?

Now Zhang Pengfei’s mind was filled with questions, recent events seeming somewhat forgotten by him.
