Chapter 1365: The Color Changes at the Mention of Pediatrics
"Teacher Liu, my patient’s CT and blood test results are both negative."
Liu Banxia had just walked out of Wang Huan’s consultation room when Huang Bo quickly approached him in the lobby.
"Oh, this is interesting. It doesn’t seem like the patient with intestinal fermentation syndrome you diagnosed; you didn’t smell any alcohol." Liu Banxia nodded.
"Let’s go take a look; has the head wound of the patient been treated? Even though the CT is negative, is there a possibility of a concussion?"
"The patient just returned, and he still seems a bit disoriented. It’s also hard to stitch him up for now; he’s constantly moving." Miao Rui said.
"Alright, let’s see if we can’t give him a shot of sedative and then deal with the wound." Liu Banxia said.
Following Miao Rui to the bedside, the patient indeed seemed restless. He was muttering some words, appearing somewhat intoxicated.
"Did you check the injection sites?" After observing, Liu Banxia asked.
"Mainly checked the inside of the elbow, found nothing. But he has three scar tissues on his hand, unsure if they’re from previous injuries." Miao Rui said.
"Let me have a look." Liu Banxia said.
Miao Rui quickly moved to the patient’s right side and lifted his right arm.
The three scar tissues weren’t very large, one on the back of the hand and two on the wrist.
Liu Banxia examined them closely, they didn’t look like scars from external wound suturing.
"This patient is indeed puzzling. Have the family members not arrived yet?" Liu Banxia asked.
"They’re not from Binhai City, it’s a bit far, probably over an hour before they arrive." Miao Rui said.
"Actually, if we want to determine if there’s a cerebral hemorrhage, an enhanced brain CT could work. But for this patient, the indications aren’t that clear." Liu Banxia said.
"Ugh, ugh..."
The patient on the examination bed turned his head and retched a few times.
After retching, he lay still, rubbing his forehead with his right hand.
"See, now there’s nausea and head discomfort. I think it might be a contusion, which is much more serious than a concussion." Liu Banxia frowned.
"Try to recall clearly, when the paramedic brought him in, how did they describe it? Was it that he initially had an unsteady gait, or did these symptoms appear after he fell and hit his head?"
"Teacher Liu, I remember this clearly. At first, the paramedic suspected he had a bit too much to drink last night and hadn’t sobered up." Miao Rui quickly said.
"Hmm... I also conducted an alcohol test during the blood test, the level wasn’t high. Even if he drank, he didn’t drink much last night."
"Alright, you’re the one who diagnosed this patient, based on the current situation, what medical orders would you give?" Liu Banxia asked.
"I... can only do a brain CT first. Then stitch up his head wound and keep a close watch." Miao Rui hesitated a bit and said.
"Good, that’s generally my assessment as well. Very good, you’re almost ready to be on your own." Liu Banxia smiled and nodded.
Receiving praise from the big boss was rare indeed.

Miao Rui was also pleased inside.
But seeing the current state of the patient brought some concern. Apart from performing an enhanced brain CT, there were no other diagnostic methods available.
But this is an invasive procedure, and the patient’s family isn’t present. The patient clearly lacks understanding, making communication difficult.
"Often, it’s just like this; we must wait for the condition to develop some time before we can be certain. Currently, the patient’s blood test results are normal; we can’t give a conclusive judgment." Liu Banxia said.
Miao Rui nodded, this was all that could be done for the time being.
"Teacher Liu, Teacher Liu, that patient is pretty much confirmed to have a hereditary mitochondrial disorder." At this point, Liu Yiqing cheerfully ran over.
"Have the biopsy results come out?" Liu Banxia asked.
"No, but after administering medication, the patient’s blood pressure improved." Liu Yiqing said.
"We still need to base it on the biopsy results; current symptom judgments are supportive." Liu Banxia said.
"If you have time, discuss with Miao Rui the patient he’s handling now. He’s got some headaches without a clear cause."
"Okay, I’ll head over now." Liu Yiqing responded and then mingled with Miao Rui.
"Not bad, you should also maintain Liu Yiqing’s work attitude. So what if she’s a bit silly? She’s happy with her life and work now," Liu Banxia said to the interns.
The few nearby looked at him with helpless eyes.
Liu Yiqing isn’t actually silly, she’s quite clever. It’s just that all her cleverness goes into her medical skills, and she’s a little absent-minded in daily life.
"There’s also another piece of good news, which is really great for the interns," Liu Banxia added.
The interns, who were about to leave, swiftly turned back and stared at him intently.
"You all know I’m going into pediatric general surgery, and our hospital continues to need talent in this area. So for those considering a pediatric career, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Liu Banxia said.
"Hey? Don’t leave, it’s a really good opportunity. As long as you perform reasonably well, we can stay at the Second Hospital and sign a formal contract. There’s also a chance for promotion to attending physician, and..."
"That’s so damn frustrating, they don’t even listen to the good news before running off. It’s not like I’m asking them for money, seriously."
There’s really no way around it. As soon as it’s about pediatrics and pediatric surgery, they lose interest.
Everyone knows what working in pediatrics is like, and the pressure of performing pediatric surgeries. Even if you offer an olive branch, or even an olive tree, you’d have to think it over.
"Tsk tsk, Director Liu, you’ve got to work harder," Wang Chao came over, smiling happily.
"No need to kick someone when they’re down. What’s wrong with these people, why are they so averse to pediatrics?" Liu Banxia grumbled.
"They’ve worked for so long, it’s unlikely they’ll be swayed into pediatrics by just a few benefits," Wang Chao said.
"Better keep thinking about what other perks you could offer, otherwise you’ll have to rely on coaxing the next batch of interns. Good luck, it’s not easy."
"Is it really okay to be so gleeful? Aren’t you afraid I’ll drag you into it with me?" Liu Banxia said.
"Honestly, you could threaten me with pig’s trotters, but you really can’t threaten me with this," Wang Chao said with a smile.
"Pediatric general surgery isn’t easy. Let me put it this way, if I wanted to perform it now, would you dare to let me?"
Liu Banxia gave him a helpless look; he really wouldn’t dare.
With adult surgeries, even a tiny mistake might still be salvageable. But with pediatrics or neonates? Even a small error could lead to serious consequences.
No one dares to let just anyone perform it so casually. The reason he gets to do this surgery is because he completed a liver transplant. On Zhou Shuwen’s side, he’s genuinely too busy.
But even so, he still has to intern at the Third Hospital to observe. The doctors there are true pediatric surgery experts, so he also has to go learn; he can’t figure it out all on his own.
"Chao, help me think of a solution," Liu Banxia said.
"Don’t look at me, I’ll treat you to pig’s trotters at lunch, that’s all the support I can give you," Wang Chao said.
"You’re ruthless, just watching me suffer," Liu Banxia glared at him.
"What can I do? You could ask around the whole hospital. Even counting the interns in the emergency center and the inpatient department, finding five would be tough," Wang Chao said.
"Pediatrics, it’s really that unique. Are things getting busy again? Seasonal changes are when colds are most common. As it gets hotter, kids love to take off their clothes."
Liu Banxia nodded, "Thinking about it, pediatrics seems busy all year round, with only occasional breaks. Now, I admire them a lot. Their busyness is mentally exhausting, unlike us in surgery."
"Anyway, try your best. If it doesn’t work, you might have to persuade the medical school in advance. You’re quite persuasive, maybe you’ll attract a new batch," Wang Chao said.
"You know, I’ve thought about that. I just don’t know if constantly recruiting from the medical school will offend other hospitals," Liu Banxia said.
"Well... that could happen. But if it’s for pediatric surgery, I don’t think there’s much issue. After all, recruiting talent involves some persuasion skills," Wang Chao said.
Liu Banxia laughed, imagining how outsiders might misinterpret their conversation.
But given the situation today, persuasion is the only way. It’s doubtful that anyone genuinely wanting to work in pediatric surgery would choose the Second Hospital.
The current situation is a bit complex.
Are there people available? Certainly. With so many interns, not everyone can stay at the Second Hospital, and some might find better opportunities elsewhere.
But many won’t choose pediatric surgery just to stay at the Second Hospital. If that were the case, every department would be fully staffed.
Really, it’s because everyone knows the internal situation and the work each department entails, which leaves many in awe.
In this regard, Liu Banxia truly has no solution. If it doesn’t work, he’ll have to follow his and Wang Chao’s plan to recruit from the medical school.
Maybe they’ll manage to recruit some, who knows?
