The boar’s charge was incredibly fierce. Though it missed Hua Xiao’Er, its momentum carried it onward, hurtling down the slope.

Meanwhile, Zhao Jun was on the opposite slope, watching the entire scene unfold with perfect clarity.

He watched as Hua Xiao’Er gave chase again, leaping up to take another bite.

With that bite, the dog got one of the boar’s testicles in its mouth. Before he could swallow, the boar wheeled around and charged again. Hua Xiao’Er quickly spat out the prize and scrambled back up the slope.

"SQUEAL! SQUEAL..." The boar shrieked as it gave chase up the slope.

’Attaboy,’ Zhao Jun cheered inwardly as he watched Hua Xiao’Er lead the boar up the slope.

This meant the boar was moving farther and farther away from him, not closer.

But Zhao Jun knew it was the best possible move for Hua Xiao’Er.

Uphill, the forest thinned out, with only sparse trees. It gave the dog more room to dodge and avoid injury when fighting the boar.

But down in the gully, the undergrowth was a chaotic mess of thorny brush. If the boar cornered him there, the dog wouldn’t be able to dodge and would surely be gored.

Besides, Zhao Jun knew Hua Xiao’Er wasn’t Xiaohua; he wouldn’t just keep running.

Sure enough, after luring the boar about ten meters up the slope, Hua Xiao’Er darted to the side.

The boar’s target vanished from in front of it, but its momentum kept it charging up the slope.

At this point, the boar had given up. It had no intention of chasing Hua Xiao’Er anymore. As long as the dog left it alone, it would be content.

But the boar hadn’t run much farther up the slope before Hua Xiao’Er was on it again, sinking his teeth into the last remaining testicle.

The boar shrieked and wheeled around, charging back down the slope.

Once again, Hua Xiao’Er lured the boar downhill. After about ten meters, he darted aside, letting the beast thunder past.

Then, Hua Xiao’Er closed in from behind and attacked again.

As Hua Xiao’Er’s teeth sank in once more, the boar let out a bloodcurdling squeal of pure agony.

This time, its spirit broke. It didn’t want to turn and chase Hua Xiao’Er anymore. It just wanted to run.

And so, it bolted straight for the gully below.

But leaving wasn’t an option now.

Hua Xiao’Er took a few steps back and, seeing the boar wasn’t pursuing, immediately went after it again.

Once he caught up, he delivered another bite.

This time, the bite nearly tore the boar’s last testicle clean off; it was left hanging by a mere shred of skin.

This was just plain bullying. The boar had no choice but to fight back.

The boar spun around in a fury and charged viciously at Hua Xiao’Er, but by the time it turned, the dog was already well out of reach.

On other days, with other dogs there to assist, the boar might have turned its attention to one of them.

But today, with no other dogs around, Hua Xiao’Er alone was putting on a perfect display of what made him the number one dog in the Yong’an Forest Area.

Back in his prime, when he was three, Lin Xiangshun would take him into the mountains to single-handedly corner wild boars and Black Bears during the spring and autumn hunting seasons.

That was Hua Xiao’Er in his absolute prime.

But now, the dog was old.

For a hunting dog that bled and suffered injuries year after year, just living to the age of six was a rare feat.

And Hua Xiao’Er was seven.

Hua Xiao’Er let the boar charge past him one more time. He lunged, tearing the beast’s last testicle clean off. But as he started to lead the boar down the slope again, the old dog’s stamina was clearly fading.

Fortunately, just then, Zhao Jun arrived.

The moment he saw Zhao Jun, Hua Xiao’Er halted, spun around to face the oncoming boar, and opened his mouth to bark.

"WOOF! WOOF!" With each bark, a puff of white vapor escaped his mouth.
