The Escape of Layla

Episode 16 (Jessica Perspective)

The lady ran away.

Throw away everything you've built with the thought of blood seeping.

I, Jessica Blair, am a maid of honor serving the Duke of Ashbury family, the prestigious Duke of Altair in the Kingdom. I am a civilian, but sometimes my parents are quite well-known wealthy merchants, and I was able to serve the prestigious Duke's house with my father's handover.

The job description told me was mainly to take care of Laila Ashbury, the eldest daughter of the Duke's family.

Laila, when I first met your daughter, she was 3 years old and I was only 18. Duke, I remember very well that your face was full of signs of growing up to be a wise lady with similar flax eyes and hair, even though she was still young and beautiful. The lady said in a poor voice, "Nice to meet you, Jessica," when she could turn a pretty grin on me like an angel, just a maid of honor.

I was wondering what I would do if I were to serve my poor young lady, but when I saw that grin, I apparently ended up worried, so did I.

From that day on, I was to spend almost every day with my lady. Now that I think about it, I may be the only maid of honor to have spent the longest time with the young lady. And I felt like it was the lady who didn't know the least about how harsh that was.

My husband and wife were very strictly educated by Lady Leila. Although it was understandable to me that I was of somewhat discerning age in anticipation of the future of the brilliant and beautiful Lady Layla, the attitude of the husband and wife who treated the young lady accordingly was too cold.

I know that my husband and wife will really love Lady Layla. Lady Leila used to say words of praise to Lady Leila in the absence of Lady Leila, and her husband knows that Lady Leila used to watch her mouth break when she watched her dance hard.

But I don't see how you wouldn't show that in front of Lady Layla at all. Perhaps you don't really want to spoil a lady who is rumored to be a candidate for Princess Wang, but it's a different story not to spoil even once.

Even if the lady fell ill, it was all too clerical to say that the lady cared in front of Lady Layla that the lady's lesson would not be delayed. When the lady who heard that saw you repeatedly say "I'm sorry, Mother," while being floated by the fever, this one accidentally zeroed her tears.

That's why the maids with Lady Layla, starting with me, were sweet to the lady. Of course, I couldn't spoil her greatly because of her husband's or wife's eyes, but when the lady fell ill, I prepared her favorite treats, and I grew different flowers every day so that the lady felt a little clearer. We could only do something really trivial, but it still seemed to convey our feelings to the lady, who always says "thank you" with a poor grin.

We, Layla, there was another dissatisfaction from a maid with a lady. It is that your husband and wife have spoiled one of Lady Layla's younger Ladies Rose already. That appearance of the husband and wife spoiling Lady Rose by the excess also seemed as if to take back the portion that did not spoil Lady Layla.

Indeed, Lady Rose had a gorgeous appearance similar to that of her wife, and her platinum hair and empty eyes were beautiful and doll-like to whom and how she saw them. But if you're beautiful, even Lady Layla hasn't lost. Lady Layla's flax hair and eyes were clean, tasteful and I loved them.

"Your daughter's hair is really beautiful."

Leila, stretched up to her waist. Talking through the mirror as she combs the flax colored hair of the lady. The straight tip without having to comb is really good, and from my habitual hair, I envy it.

"Thank you, Jessica. But... I'm no match for Rose."

At the young age of 9, it seemed that the young lady was no longer attracted to her. I can't help it. If you watch your husband and wife spoil Miss Rose excessively and adorably, it would be natural for you to think so.

"That's not true, Lady Layla. The lady is clear and pathetic and really adorable"

"Hehe, thanks Jessica"

The lady said so with a poor grin, but the lady's eyes still didn't clear staring at herself through the mirror.

"... would your father and mother have loved me, too, if I had platinum hair, like Rose, with clear, empty eyes"

Without any foretaste, I accidentally stop the lady's hand combing her hair at that word where she was pounded and the lady was muttered. This is the first time a lady who always behaves in a temperament is given a weak tone, and words don't come out aggressively.

"... Oh, my God, I'm so sorry. I wish there was nothing I could do."

"Yes, no..."

I failed, I thought. At this time, I should not have thought about identity differences, but just embraced the lady as one of those who cared about her. Doesn't this make you feel as if you've affirmed it?

"Oh, you know, lady..."

"Thank you, Jessica. I'm fine now."

Lady Leila smiled with a grin as she cared about me looking somewhere wolfish while I stopped her hand combing her hair. That complaining-perfect grin was strangely painful and I was stuck in words again.

I was searching for Lady Layla that evening, finishing the work the other maids had asked me to do. Apparently you haven't had a snack yet, so I thought you might want to take a short break between your studies and visit the study.

The young lady arranged the book and parchment in the study and looked like she was studying. But now I'm stopping that hand. Laila, it's because there was a Lady Rose wandering around the lady.

"Sister - what book is this?

"It's a book about the geography of the kingdom of Altair."

It was obvious that Lady Rose was interrupting Lady Layla's studies, but it's not sneaky to go out of your way to break in between the two gentle looking ladies. I decided to keep an eye on you both for a little while.

"Uh, that sounds boring. Rose, I hate books."

"Hehe, but it's fun to learn something new when you study. I'm sure Rose will come across something interesting."

Can you be just 9 years old and care so much about your sister? Lady Leila seems to be perfect not only as one little lady, but also as Miss Rose's sister.

"... Anyway, Rose doesn't think it's fun to study like her sister..."

Huh, Miss Rose's voice clouds. If I softly stole the two of you from outside the study, Lady Rose's empty eyes were unusually moist. Lady Leila is showing obvious upset. I can't help it. As far as listening to the conversation right now, Rose, there shouldn't have been any part of you where Miss Rose cried.

"... Rose?

"I can't blame you like this for not being able to study... your sister is terrible"

That's all I said, and Lady Rose raised her voice and cried out. Seeing how you are, Lady Leila is staring at Lady Rose as if she had been taken aback somewhere. Lady Leila may well react to that. I'm surprised too, I don't know what to do.

"Lady Rose!?

I was worried about what to do as it happened to be, Rose. A maid with a lady jumped into the study in a hurry. And try to hold the crying Rose lady, and shelter Rose lady.

"What the hell is going on, Miss Rose"

"Your sister says... mean..."

"Lady Layla...?

The maid turned the obvious suspicious eye to Lady Leila. I think it's disrespectful behavior in a servant's position, but the maids with roses often take these kinds of actions. Is it something that resembles a husband who also serves a maid?

"Um... I..."

She said she didn't mind reprimanding the disrespectful servant on this occasion, but the sweet Lady Layla was just wolfish and didn't even speak of such an explanation. You can't overlook this. Unexpectedly I also jump into the study and look down on the maid and Lady Rose to shelter Lady Layla.

"Excuse me, Lady Leila, but I was wondering if it would be bad. I watched the whole thing from outside the study."

"Jessica......"

Looking back at Lady Layla, who looked just a little relieved by my appearance, I smile small.

"Lady Layla, tea is ready, so take a break."

"What the hell is going on!

We turned our gaze to you reflexively to the glossy and beautiful voice that sounded inadvertently at the entrance to the study. There, he heard the noise and ran to see his wife.

"Mother!"

Lady Rose cries and sees it in her wife's dress. I realized that what a craving for asylum this little lady already understands how to use her charm.

"Rose, what the hell is going on?

"Laila, your sister says mean things to Rose..."

"... Leila, what do you mean?

Her wife's sharp eyes pierce Lady Layla relentlessly. I wanted to shelter you, but in front of your wife, the maid can only refrain beside the lady.

"Um... Mother, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be mean to Rose..."

"No excuses. You are Rose's sister. Why can't I be a little nicer to you?

"... I'm sorry, Mother"

Lady Layla bowed her head and apologized. The eyes were somewhat vain, and the lady had already suspected that she would give up revealing her innocence.

"You are a lady who is rumored to be a candidate for the Crown Princess. It's important if it's rumoured that you're out in the social world and abusing your real sister. Be more conscious."

"... Yes, Mother"

Your wife's words may be those of anticipation, but they are still too harsh for a 9-year-old Lady Leila. Even while I'm doing this, Lady Rose is sweet trying to wrap herself around her wife's dress without courtesy or anything. Leila, there's not even once a lady was allowed to sweeten her wife like that.

Lady Layla smiles at me all the time when she finally sees her wife and Lady Rose moving away. That was an unmistakable grin mixed with giving up and disappointment, unworthy of a roughly 9-year-old girl.

"... the tea you prepared must have cooled down."

Lady Layla groaned so poorly that she cleaned up the open book and parchment and took a small breath.

"Lady Leila...... one thing earlier, Lady Leila is nothing wrong"

"... but if Rose's hurt, it's my fault."

"Lady..."

Actually, this wasn't the first time this has happened. Lady Leila is being kind to Lady Rose, but Lady Rose deliberately tries to cry in front of Lady Leila, or push Lady Leila into her own failure, which is what makes it so mean.

But Lady Leila, for the older part, I don't know if the minute is worse from a third party's point of view, or if it's because of your wife and husband who spoil all Lady Rose excessively, but it was Lady Leila who was always badly told.

Indeed, there will be occasions when you have to chew up irrational thoughts and bow your head if you go out into the social world. In the future, Lady Leila may have a wish to be able to make it through the scene without making things as rough as possible when she is put in such a phase, but this is too pathetic for Lady Leila. To be sure, this irrationality of the day is eroding Lady Layla's heart.

How come your wife and husband don't realize that?

It's just a maid of honor. If I offer disproportionately, if I'm bad, I might be spared time. I'm not afraid of losing anything, but even a handful of Lady Layla's allies are diminished. I'm not going to tell you that I'm leaning on your daughter's loneliness or anything, but it would be better than not being there. Lady Leila was a lonely lady to the point where I thought she was just a maid of honor.
