Chapter 425 - 423: Abyss Princess - Phil
The guards reported layer by layer, finally alarming a Tier Four Mage, who was temporarily pulled back from the coastal battlefield and was somewhat displeased, looking at the guard captain, "What are you scared of? Just go down and investigate directly."
The captain smiled awkwardly, not daring to answer, muttering internally: Playing for 3 gold coins a month, what am I risking my life for?
A Tier Four Mage is at the level of a bishop in the Divine Hall, capable of commanding an entire guard in lesser cities.
Letes City is a major city second only to Huijin City, Tier Four might not have that exclusive right, but can still command a regional guard, equivalent to a regiment leader.
Fortunately, it’s within the Ista Empire; if it were the Northern Alliance, a lot of preparation time would have been wasted just reporting from a Tier Two Squad Leader to Tier Three.
"Master Dorand, that’s how it is; I felt a very unsettling aura from below, quite terrifying."
Dorand, the Tier Four Mage, paid no heed: "This place is close to the City Lord’s Castle and the Divine Hall. What’s there to be scared of? At most, it’s heretics stirring up trouble to draw our attention. They’ve succeeded."
Dorand snorted: "However, they’ve underestimated Mr. Pharos’s power. With him around, no amount of Deep Sea Demons can prevail."
Someone asked, "What if it’s heretics purposely sending Mr. Pharos after the Deep Sea Demons?"
"You talk too much. Would Mr. Pharos not know about this?"
Dorand glared at them, saying, "You guys stay outside; I’ll be back soon. Considering the possibility of battle, stay a bit far."
"Understood!"
After giving instructions, Dorand nodded and jumped into the passage.
Dorand slowly descended along the passage; the unsettling feeling intensified the further he went down.
Initially calm, Dorand was now far from composed.
Upon reaching the bottom, he sensed a terrifying aura that surpassed the limits of Tier Four, reaching Tier Five.
"Tier Five... "
Dorand gripped his Magic Staff, letting the Magic Puppet lead.
The distance between him and the Magic Puppet slowly increased.
Beyond Tier Four, mages can equip Magic Puppets with eyes, letting the puppets relay everything they see to the mage through a mark.
After hesitating, Dorand decided not to proceed, letting the Magic Puppet act alone, continuing downward.
Though the Magic Puppet’s vision was limited, not sensitive to Magic Power and elements, unable to fully discern the opponent’s threat.
But Dorand had already confirmed the target’s Tier Five strength; further judgment was unnecessary, and he should be ready to escape at any moment.
Through the Magic Puppet’s vision, Dorand quickly saw a spacious underground area in the west.
"These damn heretics, digging holes everywhere."
Dorand cursed, looking at the altar in the underground space’s center.
Seeing the person on the altar made his eyes widen, filled with shock.
"Miss Phil?!"
Dorand was in disbelief. Just as he prepared to go, the Magic Puppet’s view suddenly saw Phil, originally with closed eyes, suddenly open them, a red glow flashing.
The next moment, his connection with the Magic Puppet severed.
No doubt, the Magic Puppet faced grim fate.
Dorand abandoned the thought of going further, sprinting upward without hesitation.
Uncertain of what happened or why Phil was on a heretic altar, the primary concern now was survival.
No point in seeking truth if life is lost.
Boom!
A strong energy wave surged from below, followed by an explosion, blowing Dorand, who was fleeing, skyward along with masses of soil.
Luckily, as a Tier Four Mage, Dorand had tough skin and heavy earth protection, avoiding death, but was severely injured.
The sudden explosion flipped and shredded the subterranean house, revealing a hundred-meter-deep hole.
Shrouded in dense gray fog, Phil emerged from the hole, flying into the air, her eyes flashing red like lasers.
On the ground, all guards were stunned.
Fortunately, Dorand had warned them ahead, so except for a few unlucky ones hurt by flying debris, most avoided danger.
Instinctively, they all looked at the gray-shrouded figure in the sky.
Distant and obscured by fog, they couldn’t discern who it was, only seeing the two red lights.
The oppressive force from afar made everyone below breathe with difficulty.
The guard captain was gripped by panic, regretting not heeding Benovia’s counsel to evacuate the surroundings.
"Around here are all nobles and merchants, hardly any civilians. If their houses are destroyed, my job will definitely be gone afterwards." A thought rushed through the captain’s mind.
At this moment, Dorand’s furious shout rang out: "Quick, find Mr. Pharos!"
The others reacted, leaving in haste.
Dorand sent an emergency message to Mr. Pharos through his wristband, but the latter seemed occupied battling Deep Sea Demons, unresponsive.
He clenched his fists, looking at the seemingly bewildered Phil after flying up.
"How has Mr. Pharos’s daughter become like this? It must be those damn heretics."
"Though, Miss Phil doesn’t look severely corrupted; perhaps awakening her is possible."
With this thought, Dorand flew in front of Phil, shouting: "Miss Phil, are you okay? I’m Dorand; when you were little... you used to call me Uncle."
Phil seemed to finally react, her glowing red eyes locking onto Dorand.
The vast Demonic Qi pollution turned solid, fiercely stabbing at Dorand.
In haste, Dorand could only conjure a Protective Skill.
Boom!
In the explosion, Dorand fell like a kite with a broken string, crashing into a building, severely injured.
The building was an estate of a noble.
The noble had long sensed the outside situation but did not act, merely observing in secret.
As Dorand wrecked his house, he also exposed the noble.
Phil in the sky locked onto Dorand, casually locking onto the noble as well.
Seeing him, Dorand hastily said: "Earl Arman, come help! You’re also a Tier Four Mage; together we can awaken Miss Phil."
Earl Arman looked at him skeptically: "Are you sure you have any fight left?"
Dorand flushed, "I..."
Just then, a strong pollution wave arrived from above.
Arman hurriedly summoned his Magic Puppet and cast quickly, resisting Phil’s supplemental attack.
The consequence was the Magic Puppet being knocked back dozens of meters, hitting a wall.
Arman’s face turned grim, "Why has Mr. Pharos’s daughter turned like this?"
Dorand smiled wryly: "How should I know? Someone found an altar here, so I came over."
Then, a noise came from the wreckage, as a young man emerged.
Arman pulled him up and swiftly said: "Beck, didn’t you say Miss Phil has affection for you? Quickly, awaken her."
Beck looked at his father, baffled.
He looked up at Phil in the sky, hesitated briefly, then his face lit up with ecstasy.
Turning back to Arman, he flashed a peculiar smile: "Don’t worry, Father. I assure you, I can make Miss Phil have a change of heart, fall in line with me."
With those words, he picked up a flying device and soared upward, his countenance fervent.
