Chapter 40: The Mad Human
Ronan was excited by this discovery. Now that he could speak, things had just gotten much easier for him.
Or so he thought...
His happiness died down a bit as he remembered that he was a maiden now.
A maiden with a male voice would be horrible. Did that mean he couldn’t use his voice?
Ronan felt like something was stuck in his throat, but just then...
"Wait... the voice Yen heard was female. Although I have a male voice now, what if I can try to change it?
Ronan debated as he muttered to himself.
Having died twice, Ronan wasn’t one to simply give up, so he gritted his teeth and pitched his voice higher.
"I am the Ghoul Lord."
Silence followed.
Ronan blinked a few times.
What the fuck?
What kind of voice was that?
Ronan felt his face twitch a couple of times. It was exactly like the voice he had used when he telepathically communicated with Yen.
This meant one of Ronan’s troubles had been solved. Just by making his voice a bit higher, he could produce such a soft, feminine voice.
It was a blessing, yes, but Ronan felt...
Uncomfortable.
But what could he do?
"Whatever. At least things are getting back on track."
Ronan muttered as he glanced once again at his Traits and felt his strength.
Even though it was only a one-star increase, Ronan felt at least twice as strong as he had been at five stars.
So it was definitely not a small change.
At last, the thing he was most curious about was the Ghoul Trait.
As it turned out, those below the Ghoul Lord realm didn’t have a Trait. They were simply powerful creatures.
Now, with his additional Trait, Ronan could not only hunt vampires but Ghouls as well, as he could increase his mastery through the system instead of having to rely solely on constant usage like others.
Basically, he would progress much faster, and the system would finally be fully put into play.
Ronan couldn’t help but smile as he thought about the future.
He wasn’t that far from bathing in wealth and glory while surrounded by goddesses.
But first, he had to take care of this.
Looking at the scattered flesh and blood-stained floor, Ronan could already feel the huge amount of work he had to do.
Still, his gains tonight were worth it.
Even if it meant spending hours cleaning up the mess and potentially destroying some of the dresses, he had still become a Ghoul Lord.
---
While Ronan was celebrating his breakthrough...
At the Conjol region of the continent, a large wasteland could be seen, filled with awakened beasts numbering in the hundreds of thousands.
This place was known as the Gateway to Hell, for it housed the base of the awakened realm beasts.
But unlike the docile or territorial awakened beasts found in the cities and kingdoms, these ones were an entire race.
They had built a society among themselves, but everything within it was connected to destruction.
They wanted to invade the outside world and devour the humans on the continent.
This specific species, with their four arms and two legs, were called Javos.
The name translated to Beast of Chaos.
They were among the worst of the awakened creatures.
They never stopped growing, which meant they never stopped feeding on other creatures.
Every year, humanity had to dedicate a large portion of its army to this place to hold them back and keep the continent safe.
Over the years, humanity had established a defensive city at Conjol, along with several towns where the soldiers’ supplies were kept. A thriving community had even begun to develop there.
For the people, Conjol was the most dangerous area known to them, but it was also a massive opportunity for those willing to risk their lives.
The military ranking system was centered here.
Killing Javos granted points, and once a sufficient number of points had been accumulated, one could either use them to purchase resources, forge weapons and armor, or trade them for a position in the army.
This created a path for commoners.
After all, some military positions were comparable to the rank of a Marquess, which was just below a Duke in the nobility hierarchy.
This made the recruitment to fight at Conjol always full of commoners.
The possibility of earning enough points to trade for a military position, something comparable to high nobility and their greater influence was a goldmine for them.
At the deepest region of Conjol, far from the base, a man could be seen drenched in blood.
All around him were giant creatures with two or more heads.
For the Javo race, the more heads they possessed, the stronger they were.
At this moment, several four-headed Javos could be seen. They represented King Realm experts.
Behind them were thousands of three-headed Javos, representing Sovereign Realm experts.
The human was a Peak King Realm expert.
Even with his sword dyed red with blood and his body covered from head to toe in it, his eyes still revealed his desire to continue.
This wasn’t enough.
He wanted more.
He wanted to kill these creatures until they developed a fear of the human race and actually retreated.
The man looked into the distance, where dark clouds loomed over a bone-chilling forest filled with towering, dark trees.
A sigh escaped his lips.
He knew they had an agreement.
This was as far as he could go.
If he went any farther, the human race would be in trouble. After all, the Javo race outnumbered humanity, both at the lower levels and at the highest levels.
The only advantage humanity had was their superior combat effectiveness.
"Tsk..."
The man sneered before turning around and heading back toward the city base built by humanity.
Meanwhile, the instant he walked away, multiple pairs of green eyes lit up within the forest.
Three-headed and four-headed Javos slowly emerged from the darkness, fear evident in their eyes.
Their wide, jagged mouths trembled as they stared in the direction the human had left.
This human was terrifying.
Every time he attacked, he always slaughtered his way from the human base all the way to the core of their territory.
That was a distance of a thousand miles.
He had killed from morning until night, repeatedly slaughtering his way through their forces until he finally reached this place.
It was enough to demonstrate just how terrifying he was.
Finally, the Javos submerged themselves back into the forest.
Because of the human’s actions, they would have to lay low for a while.
"General Tayin... news came from your father. You might want to see his letter back at the base."
Just as the man left the peripheral area of the dark forest, he entered an open expanse of red soil.
The soil was clear evidence of a land drenched in blood and the countless deaths that had occurred there.
At this moment, a female soldier wearing light armor bowed slightly as she delivered the report.
Hearing this, the man raised his left hand and wiped the blood from his face.
Revealed beneath it was a handsome young man with sharp eyebrows and piercing blue eyes.
"Alright, let’s go then."
General Tayin spoke, his voice deep and heavy.
The two figures flashed.
In an instant, they appeared several hundred meters in the sky before heading toward the base at subsonic speed.
Behind them, they left a long trail of dead Javo corpses.
