Chapter 52: A Shrewd Master and Slave
Two major pieces of news spread throughout the capital the following day.
The first was that the Duke had entered Javo territory, destroyed half of their population, injured seven Supreme Realm Javos leaving everyone utterly baffled.
Was this the Duke’s true strength?
The feat was more than terrifying.
It was almost outright impossible.
But just as the people began marveling at what a father’s love for his son could drive him to do, another piece of news reached them.
The Duke’s actions had triggered a war between the humans and the Javos, resulting in the destruction of five cities and the deaths of millions of people the previous day.
The moment this news spread, the admiration and sympathy the people had felt for the Duke vanished.
He had doomed the Destal Kingdom...
All because of his son.
The people who had once supported the Duke quickly turned against him, cursing him for his actions.
But this was only the beginning.
In the following days, as information about the terrible things the Duke Family had done surface, the people would slowly grow to hate the entire Duke Family.
---
Duke Mansion**
In his room, Ronan was frustrated.
Ever since the elder had declared the lockdown, the Duke Mansion had become like a nuclear bunker.
Not even a fly could leave.
Naturally, his plan to send Yen out to gather information had failed.
Now Ronan was stuck inside his room, just like every other member of the Duke Family, waiting for news.
Just then...
Click!
The door to his room opened, and Yen appeared.
Her face looked rosy and much healthier as she greeted Ronan.
"Good morning, Master."
Yen spoke.
Ronan looked at her.
She had already changed into a more comfortable dress, and her beauty was becoming increasingly apparent.
Ronan couldn’t help but feel baffled.
Why was everyone so obsessed with the Maiden’s so-called beauty when there was such an attractive girl right here?
Alas, Ronan could only attribute it to their low IQ.
"Master, I walked around the mansion and managed to gather one or two pieces of information."
Yen spoke as Ronan immediately sat up, a smile appearing on his face.
"Come, come. Sit."
Ronan gestured excitedly toward the seat in front of him.
Seeing this, Yen walked over, sat down, and began speaking.
"According to the information I gathered, the Duke has been captured and temporarily imprisoned by the King. In seven days, he will be brought before the public to answer for his crimes."
"Ah..."
Ronan’s mouth fell open, his eyes widening.
A Supreme Realm expert had been captured just like that?
Ronan suddenly felt a chill run through him as he rubbed his shoulders.
He was beginning to think that staying here had been a stupid decision.
If even a Supreme Realm expert could be captured, then what about him?
A mere six-star Transcendent Realm expert?
Not to mention the fact that he was an undead.
This was bad.
Very bad.
But what could he do?
The Duke Mansion was already under lockdown.
He couldn’t leave.
"Also, the Pope of the God of Wealth Temple has publicly announced the construction of a church within the Destal Kingdom. Construction will begin shortly after the Duke’s trial."
Yen finished speaking.
Ronan immediately stood up, his expression changing.
"Yen... this is bad."
Ronan spoke seriously.
Meanwhile, Yen was already smiling.
Heh.
Wasn’t this amazing?
The Duke had been captured, and in seven days, he would undergo a public trial.
This was the best possible outcome.
She had practically laughed with joy when she first heard the news.
Perhaps she couldn’t personally take revenge for her sister, but fate seemed to have another plan.
It wanted to use the Royal Family’s hands to do it for her.
"Master... I... We’re not part of the Duke Family."
Yen hesitated.
"When the Duke undergoes his trial in seven days, why don’t we just..."
"Leave."
Yen spoke cautiously as she looked at Ronan.
If it were up to her, she would have escaped immediately.
But her life and death were tied to Ronan.
She could only escape with him.
Otherwise, she might die without even knowing it.
Looking at Ronan, who seemed frozen in place, Yen felt conflicted.
She had a feeling Ronan wouldn’t agree.
He might even scold her.
But then Ronan suddenly laughed softly.
"Yen..."
"Yes, you did well."
"Once the Duke is put on trial, everyone will be present at the Central Square. The security will naturally be focused around that area, meaning the rest of the capital will have much weaker security."
Ronan’s eyes lit up with excitement.
"Genius!"
He walked toward Yen and excitedly shook her shoulders with a smile.
Yen smiled stiffly as she stood up and allowed herself to be shaken.
It seemed she really didn’t understand much about this Maiden.
But then again, it made sense.
She had probably come here simply to see their continent and had now ended up caught in this mess.
It would make sense for her to leave before she became associated with the Duke Family.
Then, thinking about it, perhaps what the Maiden had said earlier about supporting Bama was simply her way of repaying him for his hospitality.
While Yen was still confused, Ronan was already thinking about something else.
"Yen..."
"You don’t happen to know the fastest way to leave the Destal Kingdom, do you?"
Ronan asked with a smile.
Yen pondered for a moment.
Having spent years moving between the various cities of the Destal Kingdom, she knew most of them and was familiar with their routes.
However, no matter how fast they traveled, it would take at least a month to reach Sanju City, the border city.
And by then, the Duke Mansion would have discovered that they had left and would have begun searching for them.
"But, Master, remember the portal we used to come here?"
"Why can’t we use it now?"
Yen asked.
Ronan’s eyes immediately brightened.
But they soon dimmed again.
"Yen, that portal is reserved for nobles of a certain rank."
"Who are we? Guests, right?"
"Even if they respect us, we came here with someone. At the very least, they would inform the Duke Mansion before allowing us to use it."
"Seeing us leave alone would be suspicious. After all, we’re guests of the Duke Mansion."
Ronan explained.
Yen nodded.
"Yes, I know, Master."
"But what about the Duke’s seal?"
She asked.
"Yes, Master. I overheard what you all discussed earlier. I was right there, after all."
"With the Duke’s seal, we should be able to use the portal, right?"
Yen asked with a sweet smile.
Ronan’s expression changed.
"But Yen..."
"How can we get the Duke’s Seal?"
Ronan couldn’t help but ask.
Yen smiled.
"Ha."
"That’s actually very easy, Master."
"All we have to do is—"
