The Extinction Healer of the Beast Husbands

Chapter 5: Ch 5. Don’t Leave Us...

Forhen froze slightly, but spoke nervously. "It was just a misunderstanding; please forgive us," he stammered. "We were too hasty, to the point of offending you. After all, you are still the Queen of the five beast kings in the world of Eldoria. From now on, we will treat you with respect."

Selena felt her heart grow colder, whilst at the same time finding it absurd to see how her five husbands remained silent whilst Forhen was busy talking. Anyone who didn’t know better would think this man was her husband, whilst the other five were cruel creatures who had nearly killed a defenceless woman.

"Mr Forhen, I understand what you mean. You are merely a member of the Eldoria World Council; if there were no charges, you would not have carried out the execution either." Selena said expressionlessly, gazing at Vylen, Stevan and Dorven standing nearby. "You’re busy apologising, but they’re just standing there in silence? Is that what you mean when you say I am the Queen?"

Forhen was speechless; he looked towards the three Beast Kings, who were gazing at Selena with a hint of guilt in their eyes.

"Besides, they don’t want me to be their wife," Selena added, gazing at the faces of those who had been pushing for her immediate execution. "They just want me dead—perhaps so they can be with the girls they fancy. If I go back with them, I’m afraid I won’t survive until tomorrow."

"You’ve got it all wrong," said Vylen, speaking up before the others.

"Got it all wrong?" Selena raised an eyebrow at him, and he immediately swallowed hard. "You’re one of those who want me dead too. What exactly have I got wrong about you, Your Majesty the Fox King?"

Vylen grew even more nervous; the title sounded far too cold, even though Selena usually addressed him that way too. But for some reason, her words cut deep now.

"You have nowhere else to go but to us," said Stevan, noticing Vylen’s fluster. "We are the only ones you can turn to; we have a large building and you have one of the private rooms there. It’s nearly nightfall; you’d best go home and get some rest. Whatever you ask for, we’ll provide it as atonement for our mistake."

"That’s right," replied Dorven, nodding with a face he was trying to make look gentle and pleading. "The night is very dangerous in the Beast Realm, especially as many of Eldoria’s inhabitants have seen you rise to become the Healer of Extinction here. Some evil groups might kidnap you; it’s not safe for you."

"Come back with us to the palace; we’ll protect you. We’ll also keep our distance as much as possible so you don’t have to see us," said Vylen, glancing at Selena, who was smiling foolishly.

"Even a wicked person shows remorse when they repent or realise their mistake. But I haven’t seen or heard a word of apology from you; you’ve only asked me to come home so you can lock me up again and exploit me as you please, haven’t you?" She retorted, causing Vylen, Stevan and Dorven to lower their heads.

They realised they were in the wrong, and all this time they had lived a life of ease, relying on all the power they possessed. That was why they had never said ’I’m sorry’ or shown any sense of guilt.

Selena knew that their authority as kings made it difficult for them to persuade or convince Selena—who was already hurt and disappointed—to return home with them.

They were even worse than the men in her own world. How infuriating!

Dali Hawksen, who had been there all along and had been observing everything, began to understand. The woman who had just healed him was the five Beast Kings wife, chosen according to a prophecy, but before that prophecy could be fulfilled, they had already squandered her.

It was utterly shameful; Dali couldn’t understand why the world of Eldoria was so naive and so quick to make decisions without thinking about the long term?

"Miss Selena, I have a disused building here. If you don’t mind, as a token of my gratitude, you’re welcome to go there and stay for as long as you like. Every day I’ll make sure the servants attend to your needs and ensure you never go hungry," he offered, causing Selena to look at him.

"That sounds good—"

"Impossible!" Dorven and Stevan exclaimed almost in unison, whilst Vylen nodded in agreement.

"What’s impossible?" Selena stared at them with a cold expression.

"Selena, as the wife and queen of the Beast King, you cannot stay outside the area we have designated. That is the law and the rule that applies in the world of Eldoria," said Dorven, his face serious but also showing a hint of embarrassment. "Please do not lower your self-respect; we are to blame for today’s events. So let us make amends..."

Selena sighed wearily, but that was enough to make Vylen quickly drop to his knees, causing Forhen, Dali and several Eldorian residents who were watching to stare in astonishment.

Even some of the foxes were taken aback where they stood, seeing the Fox King—who had always been held in such high esteem—unhesitatingly bring his knees to the floor.

"Selena, please forgive me... Don’t leave me... I’m at fault, I’m a fool, I’ve committed a grave sin! Forgive me for accusing you of being a liar, a cheat and a bringer of misfortune. Please forgive me... Tell me what you want, I’ll give you everything. Just don’t leave me..." he said earnestly, prompting Stevan and Dorven to immediately follow suit.

They dropped to their knees on the floor, speaking words of entreaty and promising to make amends. Meanwhile, where they stood, Jhon Nix and Stoner Grey swallowed hard at the same time. Both rose to their feet, their fists clenched, though it was unclear what their gazes signified.

"Please forgive us..."

Selena took a deep breath, holding her head—which still ached from time to time—then looked up at Dali Hawksen, who was silently watching her.

"Young Master Hawksen, to heal your hand and the poison in your body, I will need to infuse your body with my pure healing energy a few more times. You’ll also need to drink a potion made with holy water from the Green River. If you follow all of that, the poison will be cured within a few days," said Selena, looking at Dali’s face, which was already smiling, even as he swallowed hard.

This woman was ignoring the three Beast Kings who were kneeling to apologise, just to speak to him. How was that possible?

It seemed that in all of Eldoria, only Selena Grece could do such a thing.

"Very well, I shall go to the Lady to ask for help. Will you come with me? I swear I shall uphold your honour whilst you are in my home," said Dali politely, making Selena smile softly.

She gazed at the moon in the sky, which was already beginning to fill; it looked as though tomorrow would be a full moon. Meanwhile, through her eyes—and suddenly, through her Extinction Healer’s ability—Selena sensed that there would be great danger that night.

Her soul, which was connected to the Power of Extinction Healing, could not allow that to happen.

Gazing at Vylen and Stevan, who were still kneeling, Selena approached and touched the man’s chin, causing Vylen to look up; his face appeared handsome yet sorrowful.

"I cannot go with you tonight, Young Master Hawksen. Perhaps another time, for a great danger is drawing near and will destroy the life of this cruel, heartless, yet pitiable Fox King. So, whether I like it or not, I must help him tonight."

"Danger?" Vylen froze, his eyes filled with worry. "What danger?"
