Chapter 16: Ch 16.Starting the Plan
"Your Majesty, is there anything you need?"
Jhon was wiping the sweat from his body when he turned to look at Sovel.
"Has Selena left?"
"Yes, it’s already late, and it’s practically the Queen’s bedtime. She still looks sleepy—it seems she woke up in the middle of the night because her intuition told her you were in danger." Sovel spoke cautiously, afraid he might offend Jhon.
Jhon fell silent, recalling what the woman had been like all this time. On several occasions, Jhon had accidentally seen her wake up at night with a tense and frightened expression. The pressures of Selena’s life as a Healer of Extinction were indeed heavy, not to mention those who forced her to have sex with them one after another.
As a girl who could even be described as young and without any support, it was only natural that Selena had turned cruel once she gained her powers. In fact, it would have been strange if she had remained gentle and kind-hearted after everything they’d done to her.
"I remember how she used to be afraid of me, but now she’ll get up in the middle of the night and come to my room to bring me medicine. That’s not like her at all—she’s really changed a lot. I never would have thought she’d dare to yell at me just now," said Jhon, and that made Sovel purse his lips, not knowing what to say.
Yet he also felt that the Queen of today was indeed quite commanding. The woman’s transformation even made him suspicious—could another spirit have possessed her, explaining why her personality was so different?
"It’s better if we don’t dwell on that. Her identity remains that of the Eldorian Healer of Extinction, destined to appear once every 500 years. We’re fortunate enough to be living in the same era as her, Your Majesty," Sovel said, causing Jhon to fall silent and ponder his words.
It was true—the predestined Healer of Extinction appeared only once every 500 years. Even then, it took thousands of screenings and investigations before they found someone with such extraordinary abilities.
Selena was discovered when she was just a teenager—a woman who was different from their race, yet she was still part of the long-extinct beastkin clan. Her clan’s power and identity had vanished from Eldoria’s records, setting her apart because she lacked even the slightest traits of a beastkin.
She was beautiful, with a slender, elegant figure and fair, fragrant skin. Her eyes shone brightly against her slightly oval face, while her long, golden-blonde hair made her even more enchanting.
"We have to win the Queen’s favor, Your Majesty, so she’ll be willing to treat you," said Sovel, noticing that he was just standing there silently. "The Queen is clearly the kind of person who needs an apology from someone who has hurt her feelings. She isn’t petty—after all, she was still willing to forgive the Dragon King, the Lion King, and the Fox King. That means we have a chance, too."
"I know. You may leave... I’ll think of a way to apologize to her," said Jhon, looking at Sovel, who had already nodded. "Don’t forget—after this, fix up her room in my palace. Who knows, she might want to stay the night, just like she did at the Fox’s palace. She won’t be disappointed when she sees the room."
Sovel nodded quickly. "That’s true—the Queen is a woman and surely wants something beautiful. I’ll find out what the Queen likes and make her room a lovely place. If the Queen likes the condition of her room and her private quarters in our palace, it’ll make her come here more often. That way, the Queen will naturally pay more attention to you as well," he said enthusiastically.
Jhon nodded slowly, causing Sovel to fall silent for a moment. He thought quickly, then looked at his King’s face, which was lost in thought.
"Your Majesty, do you still remember that red necklace made from the rare tears of the Phoenix?"
Jhon looked at him; he was already smiling and nodded.
"You should try that—who knows, the Queen might be moved. Besides, that item is traditionally given to the King’s consort; you’ve got nothing to lose by giving it to her."
Jhon sighed. "Go on, prepare a bath for me tomorrow morning. I’m sweaty and really sticky," he muttered, making it clear to Sovel that his king no longer wished to be disturbed.
Sovel finally saluted, then walked out of Jhon’s room. He paused briefly behind the door to catch his breath, then walked a short distance away so as not to disturb Jhon’s comfort.
Meanwhile, Jhon placed a hand on his chest, which had cooled down after drinking the water Selena had given him earlier. He stared at the cup on the table next to his bed, then stood up and walked over to the cabinet there.
As soon as he opened it, Jhon took out a sparkling box. Inside was a rare piece of jewelry that was highly prized within the Phoenix clan—a red necklace made from the tears of a rare phoenix, the only one of its kind in the world of Eldoria.
Jhon remembered that Selena had once accidentally found this necklace in her closet. Before she could even touch it, Jhon walked into the room, saw what was happening, and immediately flew into a rage—he even yelled at her several times until she was crying in fear and never dared to go near the closet again.
Yet this happened when Selena didn’t yet understand or know Jhon’s true nature; she had come and married him in a state of innocence, knowing absolutely nothing.
Throughout her life, ever since she became the Healer of Extinction, she had been strictly supervised by representatives of the Eldoria World Council. She had indeed been told about some of the traits of the Beast kings who would become her husbands, but she thought quite simply and didn’t understand how to deal with them.
"Giving her this necklace when I apologize isn’t the right thing to do. She’d immediately understand my intentions, and she’d most likely be offended as well." Jhon let out a heavy sigh, feeling foolish for having been so rude and impulsive in the past.
Now that he’d committed so many wrongdoings, he wasn’t as bold as Vylen, Stevan, or Draven when it came to apologizing. They were incredibly thick-skinned, whereas he was quite self-aware of his mistakes.
"I don’t know if there’s still a chance or not. Selena might not necessarily do the same thing she’s doing now once she finds out I’m dying. Will I die because of this curse since I didn’t have the courage to apologize? Will she be willing to forgive me?"
None of that is certain, and Jhon isn’t exactly the most romantic guy either. Since childhood, he’d been raised with strict discipline as a future king and crown prince; he never had time to deal with love or anything like that because he simply didn’t have the time.
Now, he doesn’t even know how to woo a woman into forgiving his mistakes.

Selena woke up feeling pretty good this morning. It was the best night’s sleep she’d ever had, even though she’d woken up briefly last night to take care of Jhon Nix.
But in her previous life, she’d been a corporate slave who had to work 10 hours a day, and after that, once she got home, she also had to clean up and cook for her husband.
Her life wasn’t exactly pleasant because Jack, her jerk of a husband in the real world, was a patriarchal man who never wanted to help her with the housework.
Every day, that man would come home, eat, shower, and go to sleep. Selena, who was the one supporting the family financially, was so exhausted every day having to serve him in her role as a wife.
"Actually, I’m just a slave with the title of ’wife,’" Selena grumbled as she lazily rubbed her face. "I wonder if, after I die, that damn Jack will live happily with Prisca? I hope they get hit by a truck while taking a shower! It’s so infuriating!"
"Your Highness, are you awake? Let me help you bathe. King Fox has replaced some of your bathroom fixtures while you were sleeping. I’ve prepared warm water so you won’t get cold this morning."
Selena turned her head toward the outside of her bed curtains upon hearing the servant’s voice. She gave a small smile, then pushed back the blanket and smoothed her hair.
"Selena Sewithr, I promise I’ll fix your miserable, wretched life. Now cheer up—it’s time to start the day and take control of your pathetic royal husbands!"
