Chapter 12: The First Success

The hunters returned to the village before sunset. Although they carried no prey, their expressions were different. No one blamed anyone. Instead, they talked about the mistakes they had made.

"The left side moved too early."

"The rear group was too close."

"We need better signals."

Aren quietly listened, and smiled. They were learning — not as individuals, but as one group.

The following morning, the hunters gathered again. This time, no one questioned Aren’s plan. Chief Rokan stepped forward. "We’ll try again. But remember yesterday’s mistakes." The hunters nodded, and without another word, they entered the forest.

The morning air was colder than before. A thin layer of mist covered the ground. After nearly an hour of searching, Doran suddenly raised his hand. "I found tracks."

Everyone stopped. Aren crouched beside the footprints — several fresh hoof prints leading toward a small meadow. "They’re close." He looked around, then quietly gave instructions. "Doran, you’ll take the left. Jarek, stay to the right. The rest of us will move from behind."

No one argued. Each hunter silently moved into position. Moments later, they saw them — five wild deer, calmly feeding beneath a cluster of tall trees.

Aren slowly raised his hand. *Wait.*

The hunters stayed perfectly still. A gentle breeze blew across the meadow. The deer continued eating.

Then Aren lowered his hand. The rear group stepped forward — not running, not shouting, just enough to make the deer uncomfortable. The animals lifted their heads and slowly moved toward the valley, exactly as planned.

The left group appeared. Then the right. The escape routes began to disappear.

One deer suddenly tried to turn back. Chief Rokan blocked its path, and the frightened animal rushed toward the narrow opening.

"Now!" The hunters threw their spears together. One missed. Another struck a tree. But two stone spears hit their target. The deer stumbled and collapsed. The remaining animals escaped into the forest.

Silence filled the valley. For a heartbeat, no one moved. Then one of the younger hunters shouted, "We did it!" Laughter echoed through the forest as several hunters rushed toward the fallen deer.

It wasn’t a huge victory — only one animal. But compared to the previous days, it was more than enough.

Chief Rokan looked at Aren. "You changed the way we hunt."

Aren shook his head. "No. You all changed. You trusted each other."

The old chief smiled. "Perhaps. But someone still had to show us the first step."

As they carried the deer back toward the village, the Civilization System quietly appeared.

Aren’s eyes paused on the final line. Resource Management. Another part of the Civilization System had awakened.

He had a feeling this was only the beginning.
