The corner of Gao Tianqi’s mouth twitched. "Director Liu, he started it. Why should I have to apologize to him?"

"Because I didn’t see him start anything. I only saw you trying to bully him."

"Director Liu..."

"I’m not going to say this again. Apologize, or starting today, you are Liu Yun’s enemy."

The phrase "Liu Yun’s enemy" was only three words, but to Gao Tianqi, it felt like a mountain crashing down on his heart.

He was resentful about having to apologize to Chenyang.

He disdained bowing his head to such a nobody.

But he didn’t dare become Liu Yun’s enemy.

After a moment of internal struggle, he clenched his fists, stood before Chenyang, and forced a smile. "I’m sorry, Chenyang. I was wrong."

Chenyang almost laughed.

He knew Gao Tianqi was only apologizing because he had submitted to Liu Yun’s authority.

But that wasn’t important.

What was important was that he had slept with Gao Tianqi’s wife, yet not only did Gao Tianqi not dare to retaliate, he was actually apologizing to the very man who cuckolded him.

The whole situation, no matter how he looked at it, was absurdly comical.

"Xiaochen, it’s your call whether or not to accept his apology. Don’t worry about me."

Liu Yun’s meaning was simple: even if he didn’t want to forgive him, it didn’t matter. She would handle any consequences.

Chenyang smiled. "Let’s just drop it. Director Gao and I will be working in the same hospital. We’ll be seeing each other constantly, so there’s no need to make things too awkward."

"Did you hear what Chenyang said?"

Gao Tianqi gritted his teeth. "I heard."

"He was gracious enough to let you off the hook. Aren’t you going to thank him?"

"I..."

Gao Tianqi felt an overwhelming urge to vomit blood.

’Apologizing to the bastard who slept with my wife was already disgraceful enough.’

’Now I have to thank him, too?’

’Liu Yun, you’re going too damn far!’

Meeting the furious glare he shot at her, Liu Yun frowned. "What? Still not satisfied?"

"No." Gao Tianqi took a deep breath. "Chenyang, thank you for forgiving me. We’re colleagues from now on. You can rest assured... anyone Director Liu values, I value. I will be sure to take good care of you!"

Those last few words were practically forced through his gritted teeth.

Everyone in the room knew exactly what he meant by "care": he would find a chance to get revenge.

Liu Yun knew this as well.

However, she didn’t say anything more.

Because no matter his faults, Gao Tianqi was still a director at the hospital.

He might not dare to cross her, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t dare to scheme against Chenyang in secret.

Chenyang had only just arrived; it was best for him to make as few enemies as possible.

"Alright, since this is all settled, Director Gao, Captain Wang, if there’s nothing else, you can get back to your duties."

"Of course, Director Liu."

Wang Hongtu had been dying to leave. Though he hadn’t struck Chenyang, he had still said things he shouldn’t have. If Liu Yun got angry and decided to drag them into it, things wouldn’t end well for them.

Now that Liu Yun didn’t seem inclined to press the issue, they all breathed a sigh of relief and left the office as quickly as possible.

Gao Tianqi didn’t want to leave, but he had no reason to stay.

After a moment’s thought, he said in a low voice, "An Xiaoqing, come out. I need to talk to you."

"I’m not going..." An Xiaoqing knew what Gao Tianqi wanted to say. She didn’t want to hear it, nor did she dare.

"Director Liu clearly has important matters to discuss with Chenyang. You’ll just be in the way if you stay here. Come out with me, it will only take a minute."

"I..."

Just as An Xiaoqing was caught in a dilemma, Liu Yun suddenly spoke up. "My apologies, Director Gao, but I also need to speak with Director An. Perhaps you can come back for her after we’ve finished our discussion?"

’Gao Tianqi truly felt like screaming a string of curses.’

’It’s one thing for you to protect Chenyang, Liu Yun, but now you’re meddling with my wife, too?’

’Aren’t you overstepping your boundaries?’

"Are you unwilling to do me this small courtesy, Director Gao?" Liu Yun, seeing through him, said meaningfully, "How about this: you and Director An can talk in here, and Chenyang and I will wait outside."

"That won’t be necessary. My business with An Xiaoqing can wait." Gao Tianqi didn’t want to *say* anything to An Xiaoqing; from his position as her husband, he wanted to give her a beating.

But that was something he could do in private. He absolutely couldn’t do it in front of Liu Yun, or it would only make his situation worse.

"I’ll let you get to it. I’m leaving."

Watching Gao Tianqi leave, seething with resentment, An Xiaoqing let out a sigh as if a heavy weight had been lifted from her shoulders. "Thank you, Director Liu."

Liu Yun ignored her thanks, her expression turning cold as she said, "Gao Tianqi wants to get revenge on Chenyang. That’s because of you, isn’t it?!"
