Chapter 112
Before, Li Qiang couldn’t move. Even when he wanted to speak, it took all his strength just to force out a few muffled, garbled noises.
Even on the rare occasions when his emotions ran high, he could hardly form any clear words.
And even when he did manage to shout, the sound wasn’t very loud.
For example, on their wedding night, when Chenyang was with Lin Xiaowei right in front of him, he was pushed to the very edge of a furious rage. Yet, all he could do was thrust his body twice with all his might, letting out a few roars so faint they wouldn’t have reached the door.
But now, veins bulged on his head and his eyes were popping from their sockets.
His twitching, trembling limbs seemed to have completely lost control.
More importantly, his chest rose shallowly and fell sharply. Anyone with a bit of medical knowledge would know this was a sign of taking in little air and expelling too much.
This series of symptoms was identical to those of a person on the brink of death from a sudden illness!
So, Lin Xiaowei’s gut reaction was that he was about to die.
In that instant, countless thoughts flashed through her mind.
’If Li Qiang dies just like this,’ she wondered, ’will Qin Fei’Er still honor the promises she made before the wedding?’
’If she does, that would be wonderful.’
’Not only would I be free of this good-for-nothing, but after getting my residency permit and a job, I could be single again and live the kind of life I’ve always wanted.’
’But if she won’t... then everything I’ve done for so long would have been for nothing.’
Beyond that, she also thought of Chenyang.
’With Li Qiang gone, I could be with Chenyang without any fear or restraint.’
’I wouldn’t have to worry about what Qin Fei’Er thinks, and I’d no longer have to live in constant fear!’
For a moment, her heart was an overturned spice rack—a jumble of joy and worry.
Meanwhile, the look on Qin Fei’Er’s face grew more and more anxious and frantic.
Li Qiang had convulsed and foamed at the mouth a few times before.
The first time it happened, Qin Fei’Er had relied on her years of medical experience to muddle through.
Afterward, she found a solution from a doctor she knew and used her connections to obtain some medication. Whenever Li Qiang had an episode, a timely injection would quickly return him to normal. The injections also gradually reduced the frequency of his convulsions until they stabilized.
But this time, before she could even finish the injection, Li Qiang started thrashing like a startled wild horse, twisting uncontrollably.
More importantly, the wails he let out sounded agonizing.
This suddenly gave Qin Fei’Er a terrible premonition.
’Is my son... not going to make it through this?’
’But several specialists said his life wouldn’t be in danger for at least three to five years!’
’What on earth is happening?’
’Could he have found out about Lin Xiaowei’s affair, and the shock made his condition worse?’
Countless thoughts flooded Qin Fei’Er’s mind, leaving her flustered and unsure of what to do.
But an instant later, she forced herself to remain calm.
’No! I can’t panic!’
’Qiangqiang is in danger. If I panic and miss the crucial window to save him, he’s done for.’
’Qiangqiang can’t die. He’s my only son. If he dies, what will I do!’
Qin Fei’Er took a deep breath. "Xiaowei," she shouted, still trying to administer the injection, "quick... come help me hold him down."
Lin Xiaowei was still lost in her chaotic thoughts and didn’t hear Qin Fei’Er’s shout at first. It wasn’t until Qin Fei’Er kicked her that she snapped out of it. "Ah... what is it, Mom?"
"Hurry and help me."
"Okay..."
Lin Xiaowei went over and used both her hands and feet to try and hold Li Qiang down.
She didn’t actually want to help. In fact, she was hoping Li Qiang would just kick the bucket right then and there.
But she was worried Qin Fei’Er would retract her promised benefits if Li Qiang died, and she was also afraid her mother-in-law would sense her malicious thoughts. So, she had no choice but to obediently comply.
However, even though she used every ounce of her strength, it had little effect.
"Mom, Qiangqiang is too strong! I can’t hold him down."
"Just hold on. I’m going to get a rope."
Qin Fei’Er rushed outside, returning with a rope. Together, she and Lin Xiaowei tied Li Qiang to the bed.
Tightly bound, Li Qiang’s struggles gradually subsided.
He looked even more pained, however.
His bulging eyes were shot with blood, and his pupils showed faint signs of losing focus.
His face, once flushed red, was rapidly turning pale.
The garbled noises stopped, leaving only the sound of heavy, ragged breathing.
"Mom, what in the world is wrong with Qiangqiang?"
"I don’t know. You watch him. I’m going to call some friends who are doctors and ask."
"Okay." Lin Xiaowei paused. "Doesn’t Chenyang know a bit about traditional Chinese medicine? Should we ask him to come take a look?"
