Chapter 283
The patients and their families weren’t deliberately trying to stir up trouble.
They were simply skeptical of Chenyang and felt a sense of indignation.
Worried that an angry Lin Xiaoyue might take it out on others, they even made sure to say a few good words about Liu Qian and the hospital as they voiced their objections.
However, Liu Qian had no time to thank them, and Lin Xiaoyue had no mind to ponder such things.
Whether or not Chenyang was the fraud everyone claimed him to be wasn’t even the most important issue.
The top priority was to save the patient immediately!
The two of them pushed through the crowd and hurried to the bedside.
At this point, dozens of silver needles already studded Mr. Lin’s face, head, and upper body.
His face was still ghastly, completely devoid of color.
Though his eyes were closed, his eyeballs bulged so prominently beneath the lids that they looked ready to pop out at any second.
His lips weren’t a normal color, either; they were pale with a bluish-purple hue.
Seeing this, Liu Qian’s brows knitted together, a grim expression spreading across her face.
Instead of speaking, however, she began observing the various readings on the nearby monitors.
Lin Xiaoyue, however, could not remain so composed.
Mr. Lin’s wife and child had recently gone on vacation abroad, leaving her as his only close relative in Yang City.
If something happened to her uncle here, she would have no way to explain it to her aunt and cousin, much less face the rest of her elders.
Seeing her uncle looking like he was on the verge of death, she immediately demanded, "Wasn’t my uncle’s condition stable when he was transferred to this room? How did it get this bad so suddenly, in just a few hours?"
Chenyang answered, "Damaged heart valves are an inherently unpredictable condition. Especially after blunt force trauma, significant changes can occur in a matter of seconds, let alone a few hours."
"You keep saying my uncle has a damaged heart valve. What exactly is that? I already asked about this. He only had minor injuries from the car accident. Later, when he was helping with the rescue, a piece of the car’s frame slipped and hit him. At the time, he just felt a little tightness in his chest and some shortness of breath. Logically, it shouldn’t have become this serious all of a sudden, right?"
"Based on my experience, your uncle’s heart valve has been damaged for at least six months. As for the cause, that’s not something I can explain in one or two sentences."
Looking up, Chenyang said with a grave expression, "Your uncle’s condition is extremely serious. The damage to his heart valve has intensified, especially after those two sudden episodes of ventricular fibrillation.
To be blunt, his life is hanging by a thread. We have to perform a curative procedure!"
After what the other patients’ families had said, Lin Xiaoyue had little reason to trust Chenyang.
But back in the ER, Chenyang had been the one to first diagnose her uncle’s specific condition. After a moment’s hesitation, she asked, "If you do this curative procedure, what are your chances of success?"
Chenyang smiled. "If I told you I was one hundred percent confident, would you believe me?"
Lin Xiaoyue frowned, thinking. Instead of answering, she countered, "If we don’t do the procedure, are there any other ways to stabilize my uncle’s condition for now?!"
"Yes, and there’s more than one method. But each of them can only keep him stable for a few minutes, or a few hours at most.
As I said before, your uncle’s heart valve is deteriorating rapidly—far more quickly than my examination in the ER initially suggested.
At this stage, it’s not just me. Even a more skilled doctor wouldn’t be able to give you a better answer.
More importantly, every degree his condition worsens brings him closer to death. If the valve ruptures, he could die instantly!"
Lin Xiaoyue frowned. "Is it really that serious?"
Chenyang said grimly, "The reality is likely even more serious than you imagine."
Lin Xiaoyue hesitated.
Her uncle’s life was on the line. Without absolute certainty and trust, she didn’t dare let just anyone treat him.
After an internal struggle, she looked to the side. "Director Liu, what do you think?"
Liu Qian let out a long breath. "I’ve reviewed the records from the ER and examined Mr. Lin myself. The situation is definitely not good.
With conventional Western medicine, surgery for this kind of valve damage is extremely difficult, with a success rate of only about seventeen percent."
"And with Chinese medicine?"
"I don’t know." Liu Qian gave a wry smile. "However, I think you can take a chance on Doctor Chen. He was recommended by Director Liu Yun. Since he says he’s confident, his chances of success probably aren’t low."
Lin Xiaoyue glanced at Liu Qian, then at Chenyang, who had already started inserting more needles. She nodded.
"Alright, then let Che—"
"Don’t trust him!"
Just as Lin Xiaoyue was about to agree, one of the patient’s family members suddenly shouted, "This young kid can’t cure your uncle.
Just look at the needles in your uncle! Any of those old masters of Chinese medicine would take over an hour to place that many, but this kid did it in less than five minutes."
"That’s right, his needling technique is completely unprofessional. The whole time it looked like he was just messing around. I bet he’s just trying to scare you with all this talk now.
Everyone knows your uncle is an important man. He’s probably just deliberately exaggerating how serious it is, then putting on a show of giving it his all. He wants to use this as a chance to suck up to your uncle and show off for Director Liu to grab some credit."
