Chapter 55: Thunder and Lightning, Electric-Grilled Hai Ma
A smile touched Xu Qingsui’s lips as she imagined the most dazzling moment.
At the same time, the scorching stream of energy inside her had successfully gathered at her fingertips.
Xu Qingsui immediately mimicked the scene in her imagination and snapped her fingers.
SNAP!
But aside from the sound of the snap, nothing happened.
Xu Qingsui stared at her finger, which hadn’t even produced a flicker of flame. Her face flushed with embarrassment.
’I definitely felt the energy rush into my finger. Even if it wasn’t as cool as I imagined, there should have been some kind of reaction, right?’
Unwilling to give up, Xu Qingsui immediately tried again.
Again and again, for several consecutive tries, Xu Qingsui failed to see even a wisp of flame.
"Host..." Even the Golden Octopus couldn’t bear to watch any longer.
"Host, your technique is fine, but you’ve overlooked a serious problem."
After so many failed attempts, Xu Qingsui couldn’t help but grow impatient.
"What problem?"
"It’s the environment. Host, you’re currently in the deep sea. While you yourself are unaffected by the seawater, you can’t ignore the presence of the water attribute."
Xu Qingsui froze. She thought she understood.
"Water suppresses fire. Trying to create fire in water will naturally be counteracted. Of course, once the Host’s power reaches an absolute level, some of these counters can be ignored."
Understanding the problem, Xu Qingsui couldn’t be bothered to think about when she would be able to ignore elemental strengths and weaknesses.
She busily followed the same procedure, but this time began to channel the Thunder Attribute within her.
This time, the scorching heat was replaced by a tingling electric current.
She once again gathered the current at her fingertips. Unlike before, she soon felt electricity crackling at the tip of her finger.
Snapping her fingers again, a bolt of lightning as thick as a chopstick shot from her fingertip and struck the nearest coral cluster.
As the lightning struck, the smell of something burning instantly filled the air around the colorful coral.
Xu Qingsui had expected a direct hit, but after a good while, the small Hai Ma didn’t emerge from the coral.
Although she hadn’t hit her target, successfully channeling the Thunder Attribute still gave her a great sense of accomplishment.
Recalling that the small Hai Ma shot out from a different direction each time, Xu Qingsui realized the little thing was darting randomly through the coral.
’That means I have too many targets. I’ll just have to try them one by one.’
Having made up her mind, Xu Qingsui once again began to channel the Thunder Attribute in her body.
Now that she had seen the effect, feeling the Thunder Attribute circulate within her again was much more interesting.
She continued snapping her fingers, and one bolt of lightning after another flew out, striking different coral clusters.
After several consecutive attempts, she still hadn’t hit the small Hai Ma, but she didn’t give up.
Finally, as she launched another bolt, Xu Qingsui saw a figure fly out from the struck coral cluster and dart into another one on the other side.
She quickly locked onto the target and unleashed another bolt.
Xu Qingsui’s actions were already fast, but the small Hai Ma was faster.
The instant the lightning struck, it had already dodged into an adjacent coral cluster.
After several more exchanges, Xu Qingsui finally figured out the small Hai Ma’s movement pattern.
She launched another bolt of lightning. At the last second, she abruptly shifted her aim.
Simultaneously, the small Hai Ma moved again.
And this time, her lightning and the small Hai Ma landed in the very same coral cluster.
’A hit!’
Xu Qingsui was overjoyed. This time, she didn’t see the small Hai Ma change position.
Xu Qingsui was certain she had hit it this time.
But, worried that one bolt wouldn’t be enough to take down the small Hai Ma, she immediately concentrated her fire, shooting several more bolts into the coral cluster.
The continuous lightning strikes instantly turned the coral cluster pitch-black.
The smell of something cooked wafted out from it.
Smelling it, Xu Qingsui surprisingly felt a little hungry.
This was a smell she hadn’t encountered before. Xu Qingsui concluded that the small Hai Ma must have been fried to a crisp.
She cautiously approached to investigate. Wary of a trap, she broke off a branch from a coral cluster she hadn’t zapped.
Using it as a tool, she began to poke around in the charred coral.
After a moment, Xu Qingsui saw a small, blackened Hai Ma.
The small Hai Ma now had only the faintest aura of life left.
Xu Qingsui wasted no time and began to devour the spirit body.
Meanwhile, in the outside world, as the Hai Ma fell, Lu Jingyu caught a glimpse of Xu Qingsui’s figure in his peripheral vision.
When he saw her, Lu Jingyu’s eyes widened. He couldn’t understand why Xu Qingsui had run over there.
Then, he could only watch helplessly as the Hai Ma crashed down toward Xu Qingsui.
Due to his line of sight, he only caught a glimpse of Xu Qingsui’s figure and didn’t see her dodge.
As the Hai Ma hit the ground with a deafening THUD, Lu Jingyu’s mind went completely blank.
From his perspective, Xu Qingsui had been crushed beneath the Hai Ma.
A creature of that size, falling from such a great height... he could only imagine Xu Qingsui’s fate.
A furious rage instantly welled up inside him. Lu Jingyu’s eyes turned red in an instant as he shot toward the Hai Ma on the ground.
As Lu Jingyu descended at extreme speed, a powerful aura began to radiate from his body.
Sensing this aura, all the team members nearby grew panicked.
Because no one had noticed Xu Qingsui’s movements, they were baffled by Lu Jingyu’s transformation.
’Why did the Captain suddenly go berserk?’
Xu Ruming was in the middle of soothing Shen Ling’an when she suddenly felt an even more powerful aura.
She glanced over distractedly and saw Lu Jingyu entering a berserk state.
Although both were in a berserk state, it was obvious that Lu Jingyu’s presence was far more powerful than Shen Ling’an’s.
Seeing this, Xu Ruming’s mind started scheming again.
She felt more and more that Shen Ling’an was useless.
At this point, although Shen Ling’an hadn’t fully recovered, he was no longer in any danger.
Xu Ruming simply withdrew her spiritual power and focused her full attention on Lu Jingyu’s situation.
Watching Lu Jingyu, who remained coolly handsome even in his berserk state, Xu Ruming was suddenly overcome with the desire to soothe him.
For guides and Sentinels, spiritual soothing is actually a very intimate act.
It was for this very reason that many Sentinels and guides formed contracts with each other.
’Perhaps I just lack such an opportunity.’
’If I soothe Lu Jingyu and we have such intimate contact, maybe he’ll fall in love with me.’
The more she thought about it, the more Xu Ruming felt she had a great chance.
Completely casting Shen Ling’an from her mind and ignoring the state of the Mutant, she slowly walked toward Lu Jingyu.
Lu Jingyu dove down, landing a punch on the top of the Hai Ma’s head.
This punch, condensed with all the power of his berserk state, instantly cracked the bones in the Hai Ma’s skull.
With blazing red eyes, Lu Jingyu rained down one heavy punch after another. No matter how much the Hai Ma thrashed, it couldn’t throw him off.
ROAR!
Under Lu Jingyu’s relentless assault, the Hai Ma finally buckled, letting out a piercing shriek.
Then, its body went rigid and fell backward.
