Chapter 389: Retreating
*Roar!*
*Roar!*

The beasts had grown restless in the area. They were starting to move around as if they didnât like the atmosphere.
Some explosions suddenly occurred, destroying the last thread that maintained peace in the area.
The beasts started roaring again, this time with their voices filled with anger.
"..." There was an ape who was supposed to be sleeping but was woken up by the explosion. The ape gradually rose from the ground and looked up. It suddenly beat its chest before letting out an angry roar.
This apeâs roar caused the area to fall silent for a few seconds before another wave of roars shattered that silence in response to the ape.
It was at this moment that the beasts acted in unison.
...
"This doesnât look good." Supervisor Jacob narrowed his eyes.
"Sir, weâve got a report from the team that is monitoring the front line." One staff member came to Supervisor Jacob and said, "There is actually movement on the front line. Weâre assuming that the ape might have woken up."
Supervisor Jacobâs expression turned solemn. "Are they already moving?"
"Iâm afraid so."
Supervisor Jacob looked down, falling into deep thought. "Connect me directly to the presidentâs hotline."
"Understood, sir!"
"It looks like everything has gone according to the predictions. Itâs just... the situation will become so chaotic that we wonât know whether everything is going to be all right." Mr. Green frowned. "Not to mention the possibility of our own people being spies here."
Supervisor Jacob nodded. "I will be leading everything. Greenfell, it will be up to you to protect our people. Make sure that Auric is safe. He will be someone great in the future."
"I know." Mr. Green nodded calmly. He had been prepared for this after getting the information from Chief Adjudicator Arnie.
Supervisor Jacob then walked away since he had to make the call.
"Yes, Mr. President. It appears that everything is a trap. The Apocalypse might really be the ones orchestrating this. Theyâre going to use the beasts to create a chaotic situation where they can profit. I donât know what theyâre trying to do right now, but Iâm assuming that theyâre planning to aim for our students.
"The problem is that I donât know if theyâre going to target all students or focus on our Auric Elfe."
"As the commander over there, what do you think we should do?" The president asked. "We are supporting you with everything we have right now."
"In that case, Iâd like Joker to stand by. As soon as we get confirmation about this Rank 7 beast, Iâd like you to deploy him immediately. Thatâs the best assurance we can get in this situation."
"All right. Youâve got all the support you need. Iâll monitor the situation from here."
"Thank you, sir." Supervisor Jacob let out a long sigh. He knew the beasts were coming.
The first thing he needed to do was to cancel the event.
So, Supervisor Jacob had to visit Dermaniaâs camp to talk to the head instructor there.
Supervisor Jacob didnât take the normal route. He simply leaped into the air and landed right in front of the biggest tent. "Head Instructor Vanessa!"
"Head Instructor Jacob. What are you doing here?"
"Are you trying to sabotage us?!"
The other instructors were glaring at him, surrounding him so that they could gang up on him the moment he made a move.
"I wonder why you came here, Head Instructor Jacob. You even forced your way in like this." Vanessa came out of the tent. A few other instructors followed her, glaring coldly at Supervisor Jacob.
"Donât play with me! You know exactly what is happening. We need to stop the event right now!" Supervisor Jacob demanded.
Vanessa closed her eyes for a moment. She looked like she knew everything, but Vanessaâs answer was quite disappointing for Supervisor Jacob.
She said, "Unfortunately, we canât cancel the event."
"Are you insane?!" Supervisor Jacob gritted his teeth.
"Thatâs not my authority, Head Instructor Jacob. I am no longer the organizer." Vanessa shook her head.
"You were. You should be able to do something!" Supervisor Jacob clenched his hands. "Call them, call them now. I demand that the organizer stop this event."
"Itâs useless. Even if you call them, the answer will be the same. This event is meant to showcase our strength and reassure people. If we stop it because the beasts are moving, we will lose all that credibility. People will just call the students who are running away from the very problem theyâre supposed to fix cowards."
"Thatâs supposed to be the military job. The students are the elite forces nurtured by all countries to take care of those strong beasts. Without military support, this place is going to be overwhelmed! Youâ" Supervisor Jacob felt like hitting Vanessa in the face.
However, Vanessa was also showing a sign of remorse that wasnât easily visible.
Supervisor Jacob realized something. Vanessa might be shrewd and dangerous, but she had always conducted herself professionally.
In the poisoning incident, she didnât hesitate to confirm the existence of the poison even though it damaged the countryâs reputation.
When Dermania wanted to capture Gloria, she was the only one who stayed quiet and just let the soldiers do their job. It would cause them to move more slowly, but it might buy Gloria precious time to escape.
As a result, Gloria was never found and became a fugitive.
Supervisor Jacob realized something. At first, it looked like Vanessa becoming the next Head Instructor to replace Ryan was a move to calm the peopleâs unrest.
He finally realized that this action also restricted Vanessa, who was trying to conduct everything professionally. They simply couldnât destroy Vanessa because she also had quite a lot of powerful connections.
However, with this, Dermania might gain full control over the event.
"..." Supervisor Jacob realized the enemy had dug the hole deeper than he originally thought. This was their plan to isolate them.
Supervisor Jacob could already simulate what happened in his mind. Normally, if the event were canceled, the beasts would come from the east, so the students could retreat toward the city. Still, the beasts were fast, so the instructors would have to hold the rear.
Then, they would stay there until the reinforcements came in. They should be able to hold for some time.
In addition, the distances between them werenât exactly that great. Joker should be able to reach this place in less than thirty minutes with his powers.
They were confident that they could hold the enemy for that long.
The problem was that the event wasnât canceled. If they retreated alone, people would question their integrity.
In other words, those who retreated first would be branded as cowards. This was their measure to discredit Auricâs achievements.
However, if they didnât retreat, and the beasts reached them, they wouldnât be able to react properly. At that time, total annihilation should be expected.
It was something he didnât want to see. After all, the students were precious, especially Auric.
In addition, if they escaped first and abandoned their post, the others could do the same but without any brands. They simply said because Esfrata was a deserter, they had no choice but to abandon their post.
Supervisor Jacob felt like he was playing chess with the Director. The Director had moved his queen and checked him.
With one wrong move, it might end in a checkmate.
Supervisor Jacob glared at Vanessa and shouted, "Idiots!"
People were dumbfounded at first. They wanted to react strongly to that insult, but Supervisor Jacob had already taken off.
He returned to his own camp and saw Maya. He first needed to talk to Maya. "Hey, the beasts are coming, and Auric is in great danger."
Maya turned cold. "What do you want me to do?"
"I need you to focus on Auric. Dermania is definitely cutting us off from the others. They might have made a deal with the Apocalypse or maybe they donât realize the danger they are in, or maybe they simply are idiots. Either way, we canât just stand here and do nothing."
"So, I shall remain by his side?"
"Yes, Dermania is not going to cancel this event."
"What? But that means..." Maya frowned. "If we are leaving, we will get that stigma, you know?"
"...which is why I have a plan. All we need is to change the perspective, right? I will hold the rear to buy time for our students. Iâll also bring all the potential traitors with me, but even then, donât let your guard down."
"Understood. Is that all?"
"No. Where is the media?"
"They should be in the command center."
"Got it." Supervisor Jacob crossed his arms. "For now, this will be treated as an emergency, so letâs do it."
"Should I ask my grandfather for support?"
"No need. Senior Mathias has done his job. This is the job for the military. I canât afford to let down my teacher." Supervisor Jacob took a deep breath.
Maya almost forgot that the man standing before her was the student of the great hero of the army.
Supervisor Jacob waved his hand, gesturing for her to follow. "I bet that people are going to complain and reject my idea. Those who are voicing their concerns must be connected to the Apocalypse. Theyâre the people who donât want us to leave after all."
"Got it. I will tell Auric that the evacuation is imminent right now."
"Yeah, do that." Supervisor Jacob opened the tent as the peopleâs gazes shifted toward him. They had heard about the beasts, so they were waiting for the commander to give the command.
Supervisor Jacob confirmed that the cameraman was on him.
Maya checked the livestream and whispered to Supervisor Jacob, confirming that he was currently the focus.
Supervisor Jacob took a deep breath before saying, "Everyone, weâre retreating."
