Chapter 2563 - 2562: Revenge
Xiangxue nodded and then reminded, "Be careful."
"Alright!"
Ling Feng responded briefly as his figure plummeted rapidly to the ground.
To prevent frostbite, he did not land on his feet but instead performed a headstand, upside down.
Feeling that the blade of the God Slayer Saber might not be long enough, Ling Feng put it away and took out the Kai Tian.
It was also an impossibly sharp divine weapon. When Ling Feng stabbed it into the ground, it pierced instantly.
Then he noticed that there was an empty space beneath the surface layer!
With a slight relief, Ling Feng pushed forward with Kai Tian, flying ahead as he carved a three-meter diameter circle in the ground.
Even though it was already excavated, the piece wouldn’t fall, stuck as if caught on something. Ling Feng had to exert effort to pry it up, flipping that section of ground outward.
A circular hole appeared, followed by a rush of a musty smell in his face!
Ling Feng’s heart sank, already anticipating what was there.
He didn’t use his Divine Sense to scan, but lifted his head to speak to Xiangxue floating above, "It’s ready, do you want to take a look inside?"
"Alright!"
Xiangxue also had a bad premonition, biting her lip as she descended slowly.
Then Ling Feng entered the pit below first, letting her follow behind.
The temperature inside the cave reverted, and it was a bit high, similar to summer temperatures on Earth.
The entrance was vertical, but after dropping dozens of meters, it turned into a parallel passage.
As his feet touched the ground, the first thing Ling Feng saw were some bodies!
Dozens of bodies lay scattered on the ground, having turned into mummies after the years passed.
Seeing this, Ling Feng’s heart softened. Earlier, as he descended, he realized that the vertical cave was man-made.
His earlier inference was correct: people trapped underground tried to dig a way out but encountered a strange one-meter thick blocking layer. The extreme cold prevented them from breaking through, stopping just a meter away!
Xiangxue looked around in a daze, glanced at Ling Feng, said nothing, and stepped forward.
Ling Feng had to catch up, thinking and saying, "Don’t be too upset."
"Hmm."
Xiangxue didn’t say much and just nodded.
As they walked forward, more and more mummified bodies appeared around them.
After walking several hundred meters, the path suddenly opened up, revealing a massive underground space.
With a sweep of his Divine Sense, Ling Feng discovered that this place must once have been a city, now turned into a vast ruin.
Being at the base of an explosion, it’s a miracle this space hasn’t collapsed, and it’s normal that the buildings were shattered to such an extent.
Simultaneously, Ling Feng suddenly thought, Xiangxue’s ancestors must have had some special means, otherwise, they would also have been killed by such a massive explosion, unable to dig escape passages afterward.
There was no time to think more; Xiangxue had moved forward, and Ling Feng quickly followed to the front of the ruins.
Then, a scene akin to an infernal abyss unfolded before their eyes.
The underground space was littered with countless bodies!
Ling Feng’s heart was filled with just three words: ’Too tragic.’
As for Xiangxue, he didn’t know how she felt, only that she stood there, trembling slightly.
With everything already this way, Ling Feng didn’t know what to say. He unfolded his Divine Sense entirely, scanning the entire underground space and other passages.
All he saw were deceased people, who seemed to have died from starvation.
Trapped there with no means of escape, no amount of stored food could suffice.
Hundreds of years had already passed.
After a moment of silence, Ling Feng sighed slightly, "Grieve not, as it’s been so long since it happened."
Xiangxue still didn’t speak and only after a while took a deep breath, turned back to him, "Mr. Ling, I have an unkind request, and I hope you’ll accept it."
"Go ahead."
Ling Feng roughly guessed what she wanted to say.
Sure enough, Xiangxue bit her lip, looking into his eyes, "I want to ask you to help avenge my tribe!"
"Alright."
Ling Feng nodded. Although they weren’t the same tribe, they were humans, and the circumstances of these deaths were so tragic it made him uncomfortable.
He continued, "The Devil Clan, after all, is not of our kind. Such cruel means must be taught a lesson!"
But Xiangxue replied, "No, I want you to completely wipe them out. As long as you can do it, I am willing to accept any condition you put forward!"
Seeing the hatred in her eyes, Ling Feng took a deep breath, "I’ll try my best."
Switching the topic, he then said, "By the way, do you want to search for something your ancestors might have left behind?"
"Alright!"
Xiangxue nodded and turned to walk forward.
With the help of his Divine Sense, Ling Feng quickly found a stone wall covered in unfamiliar characters.
After Xiangxue read it aloud, Ling Feng learned what had happened.
It was nearly as he had guessed: the Devil Clan used an unknown secret weapon to destroy most of the hidden underground civilization and blocked escape routes, resulting in the complete annihilation of the planet’s species!
From this passage, Ling Feng and Xiangxue understood that the situation was much more severe than they had imagined.
After reading, Xiangxue picked up a meter-long staff from the ground, its top embedded with a dull, gray object.
After wiping away the dust, they saw it was a red gemstone.
"I’ve heard from my ancestors that this is our civilization’s totem," Xiangxue said.
"With it and those people on Earth, your tribe isn’t entirely destroyed, a spark remains," Ling Feng said.
"Yes!"
Xiangxue nodded, continuing, "As long as a single spark exists, we will not perish!"
After scanning the surroundings again with his Divine Sense and finding nothing else, Ling Feng suggested, "Alright, the atmosphere here is quite stifling, let’s continue this discussion on the surface?"
"Alright!"
Xiangxue nodded, and the two left the underground cavern together.
However, as they were leaving, Xiangxue mentioned, "We must return here someday!"
"Why?"
Ling Feng asked, puzzled.
"Our ancestors’ resting place cannot possibly be abandoned!" Xiangxue stated.
Ling Feng smiled bitterly, "But the Star doesn’t have much time left; you won’t be able to survive here in the future!"
Xiangxue glanced at him, "Is there nothing you can do to help me?"
