Chapter 93 - 92: There’s Nothing You Can’t Get Over

Yvonne Lowell forced a smile. "What do you think?"

"I think it’s a great idea! This is so... so great..."

"If you want to try that track, I guess we could," Yvonne Lowell interrupted.

Before he could get too excited, Yvonne Lowell added, "You ride shotgun. I’m driving."

Harrison Lowell’s face fell instantly. "Oh, come on. My driving skills are really good."

"Tch. The kind of ’good’ that drives into a ditch on flat ground and breaks his own arm?" Yvonne Lowell shot him a sidelong glance.

She remembered chatting with Charles Lowell and Wendy Sutton at home. They mentioned how right after Harrison Lowell turned eighteen and got his license, he wanted to try driving on his own at the old family estate.

He ended up mistaking the accelerator for the brake, drove straight into a ditch, and to top it all off, he ran over and broke the main water pipe, drowning the flowers their grandmother had so carefully tended.

If it hadn’t been for his broken arm, their grandfather would probably have invoked the family rules.

Before Harrison Lowell could get his feathers ruffled, Yvonne Lowell said bluntly, "Otherwise, we can just do an easy one. I’d rather not confirm the rumors that I’ve kidnapped you to secure my inheritance."

"Fine, fine, fine. You drive, you drive. Just be careful." Unable to win against her, Harrison Lowell gave in.

...

After changing into their protective gear, Yvonne Lowell got into Little Black, and with Harrison Lowell in tow, drove to the starting line of the most difficult track in all of Leno.

Harrison Lowell recognized it and swallowed hard. "Nola, we don’t have to play the most hellish of Hell modes, do we?"

"Shut up and hold on to this. Don’t you dare puke in my car." Yvonne Lowell tossed a plastic bag she had just grabbed at him.

"Hey, who do you think you’re looking down on!?"

He said that, but he still gripped the plastic bag obediently.

Nina Jennings, in the car next to them, honked her horn. Yvonne Lowell rolled down her window and looked over. "Speak."

"Race you? Let’s take the left path!" Nina Jennings said excitedly.

"Sure. If you lose, this year’s sponsorship is cut in half," Yvonne Lowell said calmly.

Nina Jennings’s expression twisted for a moment. "Deal! If I win, the sponsorship doubles!"

Yvonne Lowell gave an ’OK’ sign and promptly rolled up the window. "Hold on tight, big brother."

Nina Jennings gritted her teeth. ’For the sake of my lab’s funding, I’ll go all out.’

’She refused to believe that with Harrison Lowell in the car, Yvonne Lowell would still dare to drive like a maniac, just like before.’

Yves Miller acted as the referee. A gunshot rang out, and the two supercars launched forward simultaneously, shooting off like arrows from a bow.

Both cars floored the accelerator, driving neck and neck. Beside her, Harrison Lowell was already screaming like a monkey.

Yvonne Lowell’s face was serene, as if she were just driving on a national highway.

Hearing the ear-piercing screams, she even had the leisure to free one hand and turn on the music.

They soon reached the first major hairpin turn. Nina Jennings instinctively eased up on the gas, and her car slowly decelerated.

Yvonne Lowell, however, didn’t move her foot at all. She cranked the steering wheel hard and smoothly cleared the sharp turn.

"HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! Slow down!! BRAKE!!" Harrison Lowell gripped the grab handle for dear life.

"Shut up."

After clearing six consecutive hairpin turns, Yvonne Lowell started to slow down, waiting for Nina Jennings to catch up.

The moment she saw Nina Jennings’s headlights, she sped up again.

After this happened a few more times, how could Nina Jennings not understand?!

’That damn woman was up to her old tricks again, just toying with me.’

"You’ve got some nerve, Yvonne Lowell! I’m not letting you off the hook when we get out of this car!!"

After another three hairpin turns, they reached a fork in the road.

Yvonne Lowell glanced at the rearview mirror. Nina Jennings hadn’t caught up yet.

A faint smile played on her lips as she yanked the steering wheel to the right, sending the Night’s Voice down the right-hand path.

At first, Harrison Lowell didn’t think anything was wrong, not until he saw the sign: "Rift Valley: 5 km".

"Nola, you chose the Rift Valley route?!" Harrison Lowell could feel his voice trembling.

The difficulty of this track lay in its nine major hairpin turns in the first half, followed by a fork in the road in the middle.

Turning left required navigating another nine, even more difficult, turns to reach the finish line.

Turning right, however, meant jumping the car over an 18-meter-wide rift valley. After a stretch of flat road, you would reach the finish line directly—a shortcut that cut the remaining route in half.

Below were sheer cliffs. And while an 18-meter jump wasn’t the widest in the world, the slightest mistake would mean a fiery crash, death, and not even a complete corpse to bury.

Anyone who wanted to attempt this route had to sign a death waiver.

Most people who came here were just looking for some casual fun. Forget choosing to jump the rift—the number of people who even chose this track was close to zero.

Although Harrison Lowell had never been here, he had seen high-definition pictures of the track. He just couldn’t recall at the moment which fork led to the rift.

And he never would have imagined that Yvonne Lowell would choose this path.

As for the late-arriving Nina Jennings, she also assumed Yvonne Lowell had taken the pre-agreed left path, so she floored it and turned into the left fork.

Yvonne Lowell calmly controlled the car. "Don’t worry, I’m not going to get you killed. But if you keep yelling, I can’t make any promises."

Harrison Lowell could only grit his teeth, worried that any noise he made would distract her.

’If I were by myself, it’d be a different story,’ he thought. ’And I would absolutely never have chosen this route.’

’But this little ancestor is in the car with me. If anything happens, even if I died and wasn’t the one driving, our elders would probably dig up my corpse just to flog it.’

As they grew closer and closer to the rift, Harrison Lowell broke out in a cold sweat and squeezed his eyes shut.

Yvonne Lowell held the steering wheel steady. The supercar leaped, hung suspended in mid-air for a moment, and then landed securely on the other side.

Yvonne Lowell slowed down and said abruptly, "You can open your eyes. We’re both still alive."

Harrison Lowell slowly cracked open his eyes. Seeing that they had successfully made it to the other side and that the finish line was visible not far ahead, he let out a huge sigh of relief.

Once he knew he was safe, his fearless, cocky demeanor returned.

"That’s it? It was nothing special. An 18-meter rift is no big deal."

Yvonne Lowell coasted over the finish line, braking gently. Hearing his comment, she said nonchalantly,

"Yeah. Isn’t life like that too? The obstacles you face are no big deal. As long as you’re alive, there’s nothing you can’t get past."

Harrison Lowell’s eyelashes trembled. His helmet hid the frozen expression on his face.

He raised a hand and patted her helmet, his tone still flippant. "You’re trying to give me another lesson, aren’t you?"

"Let’s get out. Jennings probably needs a while longer." Yvonne Lowell smiled, unbuckled her seatbelt, and got out of the car.

"Nola, you’ve jumped the rift before, haven’t you?" Harrison Lowell asked as he followed her out of the car.

Though it was a question, his tone was certain.

Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "I’m the owner and the designer. What do you think?"

"Damn, impressive. I knew there was no way you could be that skilled on your first try."

In truth, what Yvonne Lowell didn’t tell him was that from the initial design to its construction and completion, she had personally supervised the entire process for that track.

During the testing phase, she was probably going through a rebellious phase and was into extreme sports. She jumped that rift back and forth no fewer than fifty times, wrecking four or five cars in the process.
