Chapter 55 - 54: Cooking in Person
"Yeah, it wasn’t a big deal. It’s all been taken care of," Yvonne Lowell said without batting an eye.
Far away in Country M, Iris Chase, who was working overtime at the company headquarters while watching her live stream: ...?
’Where is she? I’m supposed to be at headquarters, right?? How did I not know my big boss came back???’
’What problems did she take care of?? Did something happen at headquarters??’
’Your headquarters and my headquarters... don’t seem to be the same...’
"That’s good. I was worried you rushed back before you were finished. That must have been tiring." Caleb Lowell peeled an egg for her, placed the egg white in front of her, and casually tossed the yolk into Harrison Lowell’s bowl.
Harrison Lowell stared at the egg yolk in his bowl: ...? ’Does he think I’m a garbage can or something?’
’Oh well. This is probably the only time in my life I’ll get to eat an egg peeled by my big brother. I might as well eat it.’
"Don’t worry, Big Brother. I know what I’m doing," Yvonne Lowell said with a smile.
Seeing that it was about time, Caleb Lowell got ready to leave for work.
He ruffled Yvonne Lowell’s hair. "I saw the gift you brought for me. I like it a lot. The things on the sofa are gifts I bought for you on my business trip. I’ll have someone put them in your room for you later. Big Brother is heading to work now."
"Okay, goodbye, Big Brother."
Harrison Lowell looked at him with puppy-dog eyes. "Bro, what about me?"
"What about you?" Caleb Lowell shot him a sidelong glance.
"My gift! Everything on the sofa is for Nola. So where’s mine?"
"It’s still at the store." With that, Caleb Lowell walked out the door.
Harrison Lowell hadn’t processed it yet. He looked at Yvonne Lowell. "What does he mean... ’it’s still at the store’?"
"I think it means... he hasn’t bought it yet?" Yvonne Lowell bit her lip, trying hard not to laugh out loud.
Harrison Lowell’s expression was instantly as if he’d swallowed a fly. "There’s no place for me in this family after all."
[LMAO, I’m dying...]
[He’s the official punching bag of the group!]
["It’s still at the store" HAHAHAHAHA, that’s hilarious! So the domineering CEO can crack jokes too, hahaha!!]
Everyone was teasing Harrison Lowell, but some disgusting comments were mixed in.
[Isn’t this a bit too much favoritism? Why does the sister get a huge pile of gifts while the brother gets nothing??]
[Exactly! Isn’t she just a money pit? What right does she have to use so many nice things??]
[So what if you’re rich? Why not donate to charity? Spending so much money on useless pretty things.]
[Did you pay your taxes? This is a slice-of-life variety show, not a stage for you to flaunt your wealth.]
[And who even knows where her corporation came from. Creating such a huge conglomerate before she was even 20? Who’d believe that?]
Because there were so many viewers in the live stream, Harrison Lowell’s fans quickly fired back at the trolls.
[How the siblings get along is none of your damn business!! Why don’t you get a life?]
[I’m speechless. Are people seriously still pushing that sexist "boys are better than girls" crap in this day and age?]
[LMAO, Yvonne Lowell probably makes more money per minute than you do in a year, and you’re calling her a money pit? What a bunch of salty haters.]
[The amount of money the Lowell Family’s charities donate each year would stack up taller than you. They haven’t broken any laws. It’s their money, they can spend it however they want. What gives you the right to butt in?]
[Just a reminder, the Lowell Group has been named an Outstanding Enterprise by the authorities for many consecutive years. Not everyone is an idiot like you.]
[You’re making me laugh, dude. Is it that hard to admit someone is better than you?]
[Seriously, slandering and spreading rumors about people just because you’re not as good as them is a really low move. If a woman is rich, it must mean her money is dirty? All I can say is, a dirty mind sees dirt everywhere.]
...
Meanwhile, Leo Grant, who had been watching the live stream intently, saw these bullet comments slandering Yvonne Lowell. His face turned ashen, and his knuckles went white from clenching his fists.
He pressed the button on his desk phone. "Silas Lynch, come in."
"Master." Silas Lynch entered, holding a tablet.
"Have you seen the live stream?"
"I’m watching it now. I’ve already had the network department permanently ban the IDs that posted slanderous comments about Miss Lowell."
Silas Lynch was also furious. ’These trolls have no brains at all. Miss Lowell is such a good person. How dare they slander her!?’
A cold glint flashed in Leo Grant’s eyes. "It’s not enough. Collect all the malicious comments about Yvonne. Send a lawyer’s letter to every single one of them. The individuals and their entire families are to be permanently blacklisted by the Grants."
"Yes, I’ll see to it at once." Silas Lynch accepted the order and exited.
And so, less than three hours after the live stream started, the official Weibo account of the Grants tagged a whole bunch of IDs and attached lawyer’s letters.
...
Yvonne Lowell didn’t know about any of this yet.
She tossed the gift box from the table to Harrison Lowell. "A gift from Big Brother."
"I knew it! Big Brother does care about me!!" Harrison Lowell caught the gift, his mood instantly soaring.
He glanced at the palm-sized box in his hand, then at the huge pile on the sofa.
’Oh well, at least I got something. Besides, my little sister deserves the most and the best anyway.’
[To the people who were just talking about favoritism, where’d you go? Cat got your tongue?]
[It really is favoritism, hahaha. A huge pile vs. one tiny box... (Don’t attack me, I’m on your side!!!)]
[Sis, they can’t talk anymore. They all got banned, hahaha!]
[Huh? That was fast?!!!]
[It’s more than that! The Grants, the Lowell Group, and Pluto all posted on Weibo. They tagged all the trolls, sent out lawyer’s letters, and permanently blacklisted them, hahaha.]
[Blacklisted by three corporations at once?? They must be absolutely thrilled, right?? So jealous (not).]
[Nice one!!!]
Just then, a cameraman handed over a task card.
Yvonne Lowell took the card and raised an eyebrow. "A random task? You guys never said there’d be a segment like this at the beginning."
The cameraman handed her the card and went back to playing the role of a mute—saying nothing, hearing nothing, knowing nothing.
Yvonne Lowell opened it and took a look. "Please invite five or more friends to join you for dinner at home. P.S. The family must work together to prepare everything, from the ingredients to the finished dishes?"
She was highly suspicious of who the *real* issuer of this task was...
Director: It wasn’t me, I swear! (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`;)
"Tch. I might dare to cook, but they probably wouldn’t dare to eat it," Harrison Lowell said nonchalantly.
Yvonne Lowell noticed another line of tiny text at the very bottom. Speechless, she flipped the card around to face the camera and pointed at the line. "How badly did your production team not want me to see this?"
[HAHAHAHAHAHAHA]
[Oh my god, would you need a microscope to read that???]
[So what does it say??]
Yvonne Lowell flipped it back and continued reading, "The dinner must receive praise from at least three friends. If the task is failed, each family member must accept the punishment of performing one talent."
"Can we forfeit? I’ll just perform my talent now. How about I sing a song for you all?" Harrison Lowell asked, raising his hand.
