Chapter 85 - 84: Bloody Ending

Yvonne shot him an annoyed look. "You think I’m like you? Always up to no good?"

"I just asked to borrow it for a few days, and you’re saying you’ll just give me a different car? Is it really that easy?"

Harrison’s expression still screamed, ’Do you think I’m a three-year-old? I’m already four, you know!’

Yvonne sighed and put a hand to her forehead. "What good would it do me to lie to you? Do you remember that flashy, bright yellow car of Zachary Jacobs’s?"

"That LaFerrari? Yeah, I remember. Why?" Harrison asked, his eyes narrowing in suspicion as he thought back.

"Don’t tell me you’re planning to steal Zion’s car for me? We’re from an upstanding family, good law-abiding citizens. We can’t be doing things like that."

Yvonne took a deep breath and said through gritted teeth, "I was going to give you my matte blue one, but now, the offer’s off the table."

Harrison looked as if he’d been struck by lightning. He just stared at her, speechless.

[LMAO, he really let that one slip through his fingers.]

[Brother Harrison: I hate my big mouth.]

[LMAO, his mouth runs like a machine gun. Well, there goes the car!!]

[Wifey, if he doesn’t want it, give it to me!! I want it!! I’m not picky at all!!!]

[Screw off! That’s our shared marital property!! Wifey, I’m coming home to drive it tonight!]

[Stop your yapping, that’s the bride price my wifey is giving me!]

[What’s one more rich person in the world? [Smile]]

[I can’t even begin to imagine how rich this woman is.]

[No joke, I feel like whatever falls through the cracks for her would be enough for me to live on for eight lifetimes.]

Harrison snapped out of it and quickly started pleading, "Nola, I was wrong, I want it! I knew you loved me!!"

"Heh, too late." Yvonne gave him a fake smile.

"Hey, I didn’t know! Who would’ve thought you’d rather give me a car than let me borrow the Lykan," Harrison said, rubbing his nose in embarrassment.

Nina Jennings raised an eyebrow. "Want to know why, Brother Harrison?"

"Why?"

A teasing smile flickered in Nina Jennings’s eyes. "Because Little Gray is one of Yvonne’s most treasured cars, and she doesn’t want you to wreck it."

"How is that wrecking it? I’m a great driver, you know?!" Harrison protested, getting flustered.

Yvonne had finished her meal. Seeing that they were about to start bickering, she simply stood up and left the table to save her ears.

But Harrison grabbed her, his face a mask of appeasement. "Nola, I really know I was wrong..."

’It wasn’t that he couldn’t afford it. He had the money; the main problem was that he lacked the connections.’

’He’d specifically asked people to keep an eye out for several limited-edition supercars he wanted, but he’d never heard anything back.’

’Besides, his older brother had so many cool cars sitting in the underground garage, and now his sister was offering to give him one. It would be a waste not to drive it. It really wasn’t that he was being a cheapskate!’

"Alright, fine. I’ve already arranged for it to be shipped. It should arrive tomorrow morning." Yvonne rolled her eyes, pried his hand off, and walked toward the living room.

The dining room fell silent for a moment, followed by a piercing shriek.

Even from a distance, Yvonne could still hear his demonic, monkey-like screeching. He sounded like he was about to blow the roof off the house.

Shaking her head in disdain, she picked up Goldie and started snuggling him.

[Damn it, Harrison Lowell, my ears! And I’m wearing headphones. [Smile]]

[My mom just asked which zoo has such a lively monkey. Said our whole family should go for a visit sometime.]

[Someone should screen record this. It could be a documentary called *A Study on the Vocal Cords of Primates*.]

[LMAO, you could also call it *Recorded Footage of Human Devolution*.]

[Holy crap, you two are savage. You got a death wish or something?!]

[Brother Harrison, when you get the car, please take a picture and post it on Weibo. Don’t make me beg you.]

...

The follow-cam PD handed her a card. Yvonne took it but didn’t open it, instead looking at him with reproach in her eyes.

"Does your production team have any humanity left? You’re still handing out tasks on the very last day?"

The PD remained unmoved. Instead, he tilted the camera up and down a few times, as if nodding at her.

She had no idea which question he was answering.

Yvonne gave him a speechless look, opened the card, and read its contents aloud.

"To give the show a happy ending, and to help the cast and the audience get their heads back in the game for work after the show is over, today’s task is to check in at the workplace of any one of your family members. Show the audience how much you love to work and set a good example?"

"So, you’re saying you want us to go to work while we’re... already at work?"

"Are you sure watching this will help people focus on their jobs, and not just make them hate work even more?"

"Have you ever met anyone who actually wants to go to work and loves their job? Also, what kind of example are we supposed to be setting? An example of how to slack off and let everything fall apart?"

"Tch. A ’happy ending,’ my ass. Believe me, I could give your show a ’bloody ending’ instead."

Yvonne couldn’t hold back anymore and started ranting. This was even worse than the cooking and tree-planting tasks.

’Day in and day out, work is already annoying enough.’

The PD once again went into perfect stealth mode: see nothing, hear nothing, know nothing.

’I’m just the guy who hands over the card. As long as I don’t say anything, she’s yelling at the head director, not me.’

’Besides... I also think Yvonne has a point.’

’Even though the food at the Lowell Family’s house is amazing and this shoot is a breeze, it’s not like I want to be at work either!!!’

[LMAO, so the sister is just as savage with her words.]

[It’s gotta be genetic...]

["’Go to work while you’re at work.’ A little convoluted, but she’s not wrong.]

[Correct. On point. Hits the nail right on the head.]

[She’s speaking for all of us. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a capitalist empathize with the working class.]

[Sister: Hey Director, you want that bloody ending or not? If you do, I can show you what blood splattered all over a livestream looks like.]

Harrison looked at the PD. "My only work lately has been reading scripts at home. Since I’m at home right now, does that count as checking in?"

The camera panned left and right a few times. Nope!

A sly glint flashed in Harrison’s eyes. "Fine. I’ll go to the company office this afternoon to read my scripts. That should count as checking in, right?"

The PD’s expression seemed to contort for a second, but Harrison had a point.

Helpless, he could only nod the camera up and down.

[Camera: I may not be human, but you’re a real piece of work, man.]

The head director, monitoring remotely, looked as if he had just swallowed a whole swarm of flies.

’Harrison Lowell really knows how to exploit a loophole. But what could he do? He’d made the rules himself.’

Yvonne’s lips twitched. ’What kind of example is this supposed to be setting?’

’Still, it’s not a bad thing. At least we can bullshit our way through this last task.’

’Otherwise, what the hell were we supposed to check in for? And where?’

’How many of us here even have a real job?’

...

「After the meal, the three of them set off for Lowell Entertainment.」

Just as they got out of the car, a woman burst out from the nearby bushes and lunged straight for Harrison Lowell.
