Chapter 79: Show The Hero Some Respect
"The statue’s been here since the school was built. But it’s just a statue. We don’t really pay it much attention."
Percy was about to help Hildegard check her book out, but he was surprised when he felt a dangerous aura coming from Hildegard. Percy looked at the girl with a raised brow, and he saw her frowning up at him! Hildegard’s face had hardened into a stony expression, and she spoke in a tone that would freeze oceans.
"You do not speak of the Hero in that way. Without him, none of us will be here to even attend this school. We owe him our lives, and the least we can do is show him the respect he deserves for what he’s done."
Percy blinked curiously before he looked back at the statue and scoffed in slight amusement! Percy didn’t really mean anything by what he did, but Hildegard obviously didn’t see things the same way, and she immediately thought that Percy was laughing at what she had said! Hildegard’s eyes narrowed even more, and she put her library card down on the table!
"Please help me check out."
It was obvious that Percy had gained some sort of animosity from Hildegard, and Percy could see in her eyes that she didn’t like him anymore. Percy helped Hildegard check out calmly, and when he was handing her the book, he said.
"Sorry if I offended you back there. I wasn’t trying to make fun of you."
Percy said this with a small smile, and Hildegard was so put off by the apology that she actually froze for a moment! This was the first time in her life that anyone would ever say the word ’sorry’ to her, and somewhere in the back of her mind, Hildegard didn’t know if Percy was being sincere or if he was just making fun of her! Hildegard had never been in a situation like this before, and so she did the only thing that she could do! She took the book, and she quickly turned away to leave!
Percy watched Hildegard leave, and he heard the silent mutters and whispers from all the students as they spoke about her behind her back. In truth, Percy couldn’t hold the prejudice against the students. The demihumans battle had taken a lot from the humans, and even though the humans won in the end and Verati made sure everyone lived together, there would obviously be some people that just couldn’t accept others because of what they went through! Although he hoped that all of this would end with the previous generation, it was obvious that the new generation had also inherited the hatred from their parents.
’I guess world peace isn’t as simple as it sounds.’
Percy let out a calm sigh, and he watched as someone else came through the door before Hildegard could go through. It was a beautiful older woman with pale blonde hair and green eyes. She looked surprised to see Hildegard at the library, and she stopped her and spoke with her in a quiet voice that no one else could hear. Hildegard actually stopped and regarded the woman with some familiarity, even though Percy could still see a frown on Hildegard’s face as she spoke, and once they were done talking, Hildegard bowed slightly to the woman and quickly left.
The woman let out a small sigh, and she turned to approach the librarian’s table! The rest of the library finally returned to normal again once Hildegard left, and Percy found himself wondering if this was how Hildegard had lived all her life!
"Hello, Mr. Percival."
The pretty blonde woman finally arrived at the desk, and she greeted Percival with a lot of respect. This woman was Rosaline, the granddaughter of Headmaster Leonart and the professor in charge of Runecrafting classes for the first years! Rosaline had been planning to come and see the librarian for a long time now. She had always been curious why there were so many people showing him so much respect, and she finally decided to come here after her classes today!
And now that she was standing in front of Percival, Rosaline couldn’t really see anything special about him. Sure, Percival was quite handsome, and he had an aura of confidence about him that made him very attractive to her, but other than that, there was nothing that she could point to that would make him seem extraordinary! Why in the world were there so many people showing him respect when he was so ordinary?
Percy smiled at Rosa, and he greeted her kindly.
"Hello, Miss Rosa. I’ve heard a lot about you from that old man. It’s nice to finally meet you."
"Oh, it’s nice to meet you too."
Rosa was surprised to hear the librarian calling her grandfather by ’old man’, but she just decided to overlook it since there was some strange closeness between the two men. Maybe the librarian’s father knew her grandfather from a long time ago?
Percy kept his face as calm as possible, but on the inside, he actually felt a little nostalgic about this meeting. Rosaline didn’t know it, but this wasn’t the first time that the two of them would be meeting like this. They had actually met fifteen years ago during the demihumans war. Back then, Rosa was only a young five-year-old child, and she had seen Verati while he was helping her and her parents to evacuate from a battlefield. The little girl clung to him like a lifeline and cried on his shoulder, and he had given her his old necklace to help her calm down. But she never saw his face, so Percy wasn’t surprised that she didn’t recognize him!
Percy looked at Rosa’s neck, and he smiled internally when he saw that she was still wearing the necklace inside her shirt. How cute.
"Is there something I can do for you, Professor?"
Percy finally spoke up when Rosa didn’t say anything for a few seconds, and Rosa seemed to be looking for words for a few seconds before she finally said that there wasn’t!
"I just wanted to come and introduce myself. Uhm.. my grandfather also told me about you, and he thought we would get along well. I was wondering if you would like to have a coffee with me sometime?"
"Hello, I don’t think we’ve met."
Shiver~!
A shiver suddenly travelled down Rosa’s spine as a sultry voice floated from behind her, and Rosa turned around quickly to see the most beautiful woman she had ever seen in her life standing there! Rita had a small, welcoming smile on her face and her white hair glided down her body like a river of snow! In that moment, Rosa couldn’t help but feel like she was lacking just from seeing the sheer beauty of the woman in front of her!
’I get it now. So that’s why all the boys are afraid of her.’
Rosa seemed to immediately realise the reason behind all the complaints she had been getting from the boys lately, and she almost laughed at her own stupidity! Rosa really thought that Rita had been doing something improper to make the boys feel so embarrassed around her, but Rosa realized that Rita didn’t need to do anything improper at all! Just standing in front of a woman like this would make most men tongue-tied!
"H-Hi. My name is Rosaline."
Rosaline smiled at Rita and Rita smiled back, but Rosa could tell that there was a bit of edge in that look. Like Rita was a predator that only tolerated Rosa’s presence. Rita introduced herself as well before she finally moved towards the librarian’s desk, and when Rita leaned forward to give Percy a kiss on the cheek, Rosa realised that Rita did not appreciate what she had heard before!
’She thinks I asked Percival on a date.’
