Chapter 66: Back To The Future
"Let me do it."
Percy turned in surprise as Rita suddenly spoke up, and Percy could see a fire burning in Rita’s eyes! It was obvious that Rita had some sort of personal vendetta against Lyra, and Percy knew that sending her might cause more problems for them.
But Rita spoke up again before Percy could say no:
"You have something else that you have to deal with, don’t you? I’ll retrieve the Pendant from the Vampires before anyone else can use it."
Percy frowned. Rita was right about Percy wanting to do something else as well. Although Lyra was one of Percy’s concerns, she was actually not the largest concern at all! The person that Percy wanted to deal with the most was whoever had sent the letter to Ethan. That person knew something about the Chronos Medallion that could affect every timeline, and it was too dangerous to leave someone like that alone.
The best way to do things now would be to send Rita to handle Lyra while he handled the mysterious letter, but Percy was still worried about Rita because of the murderous intent he could see in her eyes! Whenever she allowed her emotions to get the better of her, Rita had a violent streak that was worse than most monsters. And dealing with other Vampires was the easiest way for Rita to lose control!
"I’ll control myself. I promise."
Rita saw the doubt shining in Percy’s eye, and she spoke to him in a soft voice. Percy let out a breath, and he finally decided that it should be fine. Rita was smart enough not to take things too far, since she understood the dangers of messing with time, but just in case, Percy would send someone to keep an eye on her.
"Fine, you’ll go to the future and deal with Lyra. But just in case you need backup, I’ll be sending Lana with you."
"Yes, Master! Lana is ready to help Madam Rita!"
Lana saluted Percy with an excited smile, and Rita nodded once to say that she understood. Percy then turned to Ethan and continued.
"The two of us will be going to your time to deal with this mysterious letter."
Ethan frowned and bowed his head slightly while asking.
"If I help you, will you promise to make sure the destruction of the Pastoni never happens?"
"That’s not something I can do."
Percy cut Ethan’s hope away immediately, and Ethan visibly deflated once he heard this. But Percy continued.
"The destruction of the Pastoni has been written into the sands of time from the beginning. Trying to stop it is only going to create a significant displacement that’s too large to be corrected. The Time Wraiths will then get involved, and in the worst-case scenario, they will bring about the death of every single person in Varina to try and fix the Time Displacement Paradox."
Time Displacement Paradoxes were basically inconsistencies in time that lead to a change or destruction of a certain timeline. Traveling through time, killing people from other times, and trying to save people in other times were all Time Displacement Paradoxes. And although there were rules surrounding what could or couldn’t be done while time travelling, the most important rule was to never do anything that would significantly affect the timeline.
Ethan grit his teeth as he realized that there was really no hope for the future of their people. Even though Ethan had all this knowledge, there was no way he could prevent his own people from getting massacred by the Ashtons!
"We have to go now."
Percy spoke up, and he waited calmly for Ethan to get off the bed. Once he did, Percy began to give instructions for what Ethan was supposed to do now. Ethan listened very attentively, and he tried not to think about what would be happening soon. It took a few minutes for Percy to explain everything to Ethan, and when he was done, Ethan nodded to him while letting out a harsh breath. Ethan then moved towards the bed where Rita’s dead sister, Raya, was lying, and he picked her up calmly.
"I’ll bury her in the family grave. It’s the least I can do for her."
Ethan looked towards Rita as he said this, but Rita didn’t give any reaction at all. Rita had already lost all the love she once had for her sister, so there was no reason for her to feel sad about any of this. Percy walked up to Rita, and he spoke to her in a low voice.
"Rita, we’ll only be in the future for one hour. Once the hour is over, I’ll be taking the pendant away from Ethan. Make sure you’re done with your mission before then, okay."
Rita nodded, and she leaned up and gave Percy a gentle kiss.
"I understand, baby. I won’t go overboard."
Percy smiled before he turned as Viva spoke up.
"I want to come with you."
Percy raised a brow at the cat-woman, and he wondered what she thought she was doing.
"You can stay here until we come back."
"No, I don’t want to. I promise not to cause any issues. I just want to know that all of this has been dealt with once and for all. Let me come with you as a representative of the City Guard."
Percy shook his head.
"I don’t need a representative of the guard."
"Then let me come as your employee! Right now, I’m still an employee of the library, aren’t I!? How can all the other staff go and I won’t?"
Viva looked very desperate right now! Even though she was a member of the city guard, Viva was still a mage, and just like any mage alive, time travel was something that Viva had always wanted to experience at least once in her life! For almost her whole life, Viva believed that time travel was a Sealed Mystery that could never be performed by any mage, so now that she was seeing it right in front of her, there was no way she could let this opportunity slip!
Viva put her hand in front of her and looked up at Percy with a pleading gaze, and Percy finally let out a calm sigh as he turned away and spoke.
"Fine, but you’ll stay with me. If you take more than three steps away from me, I’ll leave you in the future and come back alone."
Viva beamed and nodded quickly, and Percy waved his hand for Ethan to open the pathway. Ethan sent magic into the pendant, and in the next moment, a large white door appeared in front of them and opened to reveal a dark void on the other side. Ethan walked into the void first, and then the four library staff entered behind him and left the present behind.
....
[Varina]
[Fifty-Five Years Into The Future]
The first place Percy and his group arrived at was the Pastoni territory in Varina. Once they appeared, Rita and Lana said their goodbyes before Rita teleported the two of them towards the Ashton territory, where Lyra and the other Vampire soldiers would be waiting. The Ashton territory was extremely large, and there was a massive castle looming in the distance, surrounded by forests on every side. Rita had a feeling that the Ashton soldiers would all gather there to talk to their superiors about what they had done in the past.
"Lana."
Rita spoke up calmly while looking towards the young dragon maid, and Lana saluted in understanding! Lana’s mana immediately surged to life, and Lana began to transform! Lana’s body grew larger as her skin began to change into scales! Her tail grew longer and her nails elongated into massive claws! Lana’s head changed to a black dragon head, and the horns on her head grew longer and twisted forward in a dangerous way that would make it easy to impale any target in front of her!
Lana’s back bulged and pulsed, and two massive dragon wings burst forth from it and flapped heavily as a great wind blew over the region!
ROARR!
