’I can’t lose him.’

Swoosh—!

Davina looked over her shoulder and frowned.

It had been more than ten minutes, or maybe more by now—she did not quite know, as time seemed far longer than it was during a high-speed battle like this. But no matter what she did, High Millinar Julas never stopped being on her tail.

Upon evolving into the Heiress of Moon and Stars, she had gained several abilities.

One of them was the Heiress Eye, allowing her to see everything that was touched by both starlight and moonlight. It had a limited range of a few miles, but with the Law of Star that she possessed, she could see even further.

It practically gave her a three-hundred-and-sixty-degree vision.

She was able to avoid every attack from High Millinar Julas without needing to turn because of that.

Now, he was closing in again.

His eyes were wide with a maddening light that wasn’t there before—his pupils dilated, and his smooth lips peeled back from his teeth in something that was not quite a grin nor a snarl. Forced to chase her for minutes was getting to him.

Especially when every exchange felt like he almost got her.

Davina also noticed the aura radiating from him. It was immense and thick.

It was the kind that made the air around felt heavier—and it also told her everything about the enemy’s plan. High Millinar Julas was the strongest High Millinar from the enemy side—which meant the plan was to pit their strongest against the weakest.

And right now, the enemy had deemed her the weakest.

Normally, that word would never apply to her or even get close to her.

She was a prodigy that could only be seen once in a thousand lifetimes. Someone with a talent that even exceeded the crown prince. In the Spirit Realm—with so many kingdoms and empires destroyed by the Black Rift, she was the beacon of hope.

But right now, compared to beings who were born Demigods, she was indeed the weakest.

Not to mention, with the Law of Ice still clinging to her lungs and her body already pushed to its limits, the enemies were right to deem her the weakest. ’It wasn’t according to plan that I’m now trapped in a battle with one—but it was expected in the most likely scenario. But to think I’m facing the strongest one among the enemy warriors.’

Frankly, Davina was blaming Rex.

From the connection between them, she could feel that he was having the time of his life.

He was still playing around, probing the enemies and seeing how strong they really were.

’I want to curse him, but I can’t.’ Davina sighed inwardly. ’I’m the one who subtly assured him that I’m going to be completely fine, and he was now comfortable enough to let me handle my fight. But really? I can’t believe him.’

Boom—!

Boom—!

Boom—!

In ten seconds, the explosions dyed the air in white and dark blue smoke, charring the sky.

Davina pushed everything she had into her speed to close the gap in their strength. Her Soul Artifact—the Cloak of a Thousand Constellations answered her without hesitation. The glistening fabric shifted, a single shooting star rose from its base, activating the constellations and uniting them on its surface.

Her Soul Artifact is considered a Support-type, and it was a versatile one.

Each constellation provided her with a unique effect, and each combination created a bigger boost.

Right now, she activated the speed-related, reflex-related, and energy-related constellations. More than twenty of them, twenty-five to be exact, woven together into a single, desperate configuration that really pushed her body beyond its natural limits.

But even then, High Millinar Julas was still catching up.

He was still faster.

A hand reached for her face, and her heterochromatic eyes snapped towards it and glowed.

Swoosh—!

She somersaulted mid-air, breaking her forward momentum in an instant as the fingers grazed past her hair, and landed an axe kick that landed directly on High Millinar Julas’ cheek. The impact rang out like a hammer on stone, and she used the momentum to push him away and blast skyward.

For once, High Millinar Julas expected her to escape again.

A hundred slithers of dark water erupted from his body like serpents; they tried to coil around her limbs and catch her before she could get out of range. She twisted like an eel, spinning and slipping through their gasps like a dance move, and broke free.

Her fluidity made High Millinar Julas roar in frustration.

But this time, Davina fought back.

She infused the Law of Star into her soul artifact. Her entire form flashed—a silent detonation of pure starlight that swallowed the sky. High Millinar Julas reeled back a little, his eyes blinded, and his senses overwhelmed.

Just then, his senses picked up an incoming.

About ten brilliant emerald stars swam through the blinding light and came at him from all sides.

His eyes were blinded, and his senses were overwhelmed, but his body reacted like it was instinct. Both his hands extended into two blades of water, and he sliced each incoming star with precision. Each slash was so precise that it also cut the churning energy within the stars, stopping them from blowing up.

Once the light receded, Davina was already miles away, circling back around with intent.

She glanced over her shoulder once, and then looked away again.

However, as she turned away, High Milinar Julas saw a glimpse of her smile.

"You think you can run away from me? You think I’ve been going all-out to catch you?!" He gritted his teeth hard, grinding the top and the bottom—from the pure rage that tightened his chest. "Let’s see how you handle this!"

Swoosh—!

High Millinar Julas didn’t chase after Davina again.

Instead, he turned into a water lance and slammed into the surface of the ocean.

Both his palms connected to the surface with a splash—and they fired immortal energy that glowed in the dark ocean for a fraction of a second before dimming again. But in that fleeting moment, he could see shadows moving underneath.

Meanwhile, Davina continued onward, her eyes locked on Vadyn.

Even from the distance, she could see that Vadyn was doing her best trying to break through the strong, almost impenetrable barrier that protected the two stationary High Millinars. ’She needs to hurry up, or else I’m going to be in trouble.’

Right now, Davina was already gasping for breath.

It was getting to her—the Major Law of Ice.

Out of everyone, she was the one moving the most because of being chased, so she needed to breathe more, which hastened the Law of Ice’s effect on her. At this point, her regeneration was slowing down, and the few holes in her lungs stayed a breath longer, making her feel them even more.

Not to mention, there wasn’t only the Major Law of Ice in the air.

Another one was present—the Major Law of Freezing.

Her battle uniform right now helped fight this one—but it wouldn’t stay like that for long when she was moving more—making the Major Law of Freezing’s effect stronger on her. ’No... I can’t solely rely on Vadyn. I need to help her. Maybe enough force would wear the barriers down.’

Once again, Davina began to channel her energy and also draw immortal energy from her divine mark.

Just then, a loud, splashing sound resounded.

Something burst from underneath.

Davina didn’t slow down. Her body was a streak of emerald starlight, cutting through the sky with all she had. But the moment the splash happened, her gaze turned downward only for a heartbeat, and what she saw made her blood run cold.

A hole had opened in the dark ocean below.

From that wound in the water, hundreds of ocean monstrosities came pouring out. Jaws. Teeth. Almost blind eyes like dead eyes. They rose in a churning tide, a swarm of nightmare coughed out by the deepest part of the ocean’s belly.

Shapes blotted out the dark water beneath her.

All of them snapped, hungered, and most importantly—aimed at her.

Swoosh—!

Davina bit her lower lip and elevated immediately, trying to make distance by rising skyward and blasting energy downward—for an extra burst of speed. But the sea monsters were faster. Faster than her ability to change direction in an instant.

’I can’t outfly them. I need to defend!’

She grabbed the edge of her Soul Artifact and pulled it toward her body, turning it into a fabric cocoon, and then fired dozens of stars in a desperate barrage. Each star crawled through her cloak and then came out with speed.

The shooting stars carved through the swarm, punching holes in the tide before exploding.

Dozens were blown away.

But there were simply too many of them.

As her emerald cloak tried to properly formea cocoon, a jaw closed around her arm—she swatted the angler-fish-like monstrosity away with her bare hand, frowning as she felt its teeth scrape against her skin, leaving a long scar.

A whipping tail came from a larger fish monster.

But fortunately, the cloak closed in the nick of time, taking the blow.

Even then, the blow phased through.

It punched her in the chest, and a painful grunt tore from her lips. The impact rattled her ribs, her lungs, and her heart. She flew higher, spinning her entire body along with her Soul Artifact to fire the shooting stars in every direction.

A spinning cannon of light and death.

The swarm reeled; dozens of monsters fell back into the ocean, but more kept coming.

Among these monsters, one stood out.

A shadow stalked from right under the surface of the dark ocean. It was smaller than most sea monsters that came out, but its aura was incredibly dense. It was sleek, red-skinned, with eyes of burning coals and a long body.

For a moment, it waited—watched.

Even though it was merely a sea monster, its eyes sparkled with intelligence.

And when it found the gap between her shooting stars, its body blitzed with red lightning.

Blitz—!

It fired upward faster than anything around it, a red bolt of death that outpaced every other sea monster.

A loud impact resounded—a wet, terrible crunch.

Davina’s eyes widened as blood forced its way out of her mouth. She coughed out blood before the pain finally registered, electrocuting her body. ’W-What happened?’ She thought in shock, feeling a burn in her stomach. ’Did I get it?’

Her eyes widened for a second, and then she looked down and saw a hole in her stomach.

To her surprise, the red lightning eel monster had pierced through her Soul Artifact and struck her.

Before she could really process her finding—it came again from a different direction. Her Heiress Eye ability allowed her to see it coming, and she tilted her body to avoid a fatal attack—as the red lightning eel monster punched through her upper left chest, leaving a bloody hole in its wake.

And it didn’t stop.

It came again and again, creating holes across her form.

Her regeneration mended the damage almost instantly, but the threat now became even more real.

Swoosh—!

Before it could punch through her heart, Davina blasted skyward again, avoiding it—and then detonated her aura, pushing every single sea monster back. Her vision blurred as she tried to catch her breath. ’At this point, I can’t hold back anymore.’

"You should’ve paid more attention!"

High Millinar Julas came like a phantom, reaching out his hand.

He managed to distract Davina and slipped in while she wasn’t looking.

Splash—!

Just then, another pillar of water climbed high as the ocean underneath detonated.

Water swallowed them both, and it caused High Millinar Julas’ hand to miss its mark—and Davina was able to escape. He clicked his tongue—but he now knew what to do against her. Another barrage of sea monsters, and he’ll get his hand on her.

But a voice stopped his thoughts.

"Julas!" A voice called out his name. "Get your ass over here! Stop what you’re fucking doing and close the damn sky!"
