Shock flickered inside Davina’s eyes as her pupils dilated.

Her arms were numb. She needed room to breathe, and planned to explode the ground to make a crater that would plunge the beast under the ice. Even if it didn’t die, keeping it from climbing out should be way easier than confronting it directly.

Living for hundreds of years inside the Spirit Realm exposed her to all kinds of creatures.

Voidal Monsters aren’t exactly creatures that are monstrous but beautiful in a way.

No—those things are grotesque and hideous.

But even so, she has never seen anything that was even remotely familiar to this beast she was fighting.

It wasn’t big, or at least not as big as most creatures that Davina had ever seen. It was four-legged like most regular beasts, but it didn’t need four legs to stand. At any moment, it could simply raise its front legs and stand only on its hind legs.

Big curving claws could come out from its front legs.

Not from allocated sockets like a big cat would have, but straight from its flesh.

And though it has fangs and claws, it was heavily armoured.

Every inch of its upper body was covered by an exoskeleton and carapaces made entirely of bone material, making it a living tank, with the thickest one being on its back. A creature that was a mixture of a turtle, a tiger, and an insect.

Nothing was quite like it.

Due to its extremely hard protective exterior, it could endure the stars Davina hurled without a problem.

And with its powerful hind legs, it crossed the distance between them in an instant.

A deep grumbling growl escaped its throat as it raised its curving claws and swung directly at Davina.

Blood still coated those claws from how it sliced Lilliana mid-air, almost bisecting her cleanly—and now, they were hungering for the other sister. Desperately, Davina raised her energy-coated arms to block the swing, but her muscles instinctively clenched.

She raised her arms too late.

Even if she raised them on time, she knew that they weren’t going to be enough to stop this attack.

’I can’t get hurt here. Rex would be stuck and killed!’

Just as the curving claws nicked her skin, the swinging momentum suddenly died.

Davina blinked and saw a figure was already right above her—Lilliana.

Her hand clamped around the creature’s face tightly, fingers digging deep, and she pushed—halting its momentum cold. Then, with a violent surge of raw strength—she drove it down to the ground before it could even comprehend what had happened.

Despite the difference in size, she slammed it into the ground.

Bam—!

Sand exploded everywhere from the impact.

Davina leaped backward, then made another one, giving distance to her and the creature.

Her feet skidded across the green sand as she stared ahead, confusion and surprise mixed together.

"Lilliana?" She whispered, watching the silhouette within the cloud of sand closely.

Just earlier, Davina had seen Lilliana nearly bisected—a curving claw carving through her waist, blood sheeting down her side as her body landed hard against the green sand like a broken doll. She had been bleeding to death.

So disturbingly real that the image had been seared into Davina’s mind.

Her own sister, pale and faltering, a few breaths away from death.

And now, that same sister had saved her from receiving a brutal blow that might have ended her own life.

Davina knew something had happened to Lilliana. She had felt the shift in the air, the surge, and also— the strange new pulse in Lilliana’s energy. But knowing and seeing it with her own eyes were different things, and what she saw now stole the breath from her lungs.

Ahead, the haze reduced the world to grain and shadow.

Silhouettes moved within the cloud of sand—one massive and thrashing, the other smaller and crouched atop it. The creature bucked and twisted, desperately trying to break free. Its struggles were violent, so much so that the ground shook beneath Davina’s feet.

She braced for Lilliana to be thrown, to be cut, to be swatted aside like prey.

As she had felt how ridiculously strong it was, those were the outcomes that played inside her mind.

No chance that Lilliana was able to hold it down.

But Lilliana did.

Davina could see the silhouette of her sister on top of the creature didn’t move. It only pressed harder.

Once the sand cloud thinned, Davina could finally make up what was really happening.

Through the green grains, she sucked in a cold, disbelieving breath.

Lilliana, fully transformed into her werewolf form, had pinned the monstrous creature down. She then savagely sunk her fangs deep into its unbreakable exoskeleton. Her jaws worked hard, and with a violent wrench of her head, she ripped a chunk of the shell away.

The exoskeleton was hardened bone, tougher than steel.

Biting through it should’ve been like biting through breastplate with raw teeth.

But her fangs crushed it like dried wood.

ROAR—!

The creature squealed—a thunderous, shuddering wail of pure agony.

Blood burst from the broken exoskeleton where Lilliana had bitten, a spray of dark liquid—that misted the sand. The creature swung its curving claw in retaliation, a scythe of sharp bone as large as Lilliana’s entire body.

Unable to dislodge the relentless predator, its baser instincts seized control—flight or fight, no thought between them other than attacking Lilliana. But to its absolute surprise, she caught it with a single hand like it was nothing.

And she made it look effortless.

A powerful shockwave blasted to the other side, caving a trench for miles.

Davina, who was watching the exchange, gasped.

She thought that somehow, the creature lost its strength or perhaps was exhausted from the battle, but it was not. This shockwave that reached for miles made it clear that it hadn’t lost its strength. Just that Lilliana somehow tanked the attack.

Like it simply couldn’t hurt her.

And then, without hesitation, she bit down again.

Her fangs sheared through the curving claw, crushing a great chunk of it to splinters.

Another squeal split the sky.

No chance to escape.

No opening to counter.

Lilliana planted her foot—on the creature’s chest, seized its curving claw between her arm and armpit, and then pulled hard. Muscles were pulled and then torn brutally. Joints snapped. And the massive limb came away from the body with a wet, grinding rip, and blood squirted outward in thick pulses, staining the green sand a deep, muddy brown.

Aura-wise, she was still weaker.

She was nowhere as strong as the creature.

Additionally, her divinity points were abysmal. By every metric of power, the creature should’ve been an untouchable force for Lilliana, and yet, reality proved otherwise. Despite the evident gap in strength, Lilliana was dismantling it easily.

Even Rex, somewhere behind, heard the creature’s agonized squeals and felt the cold shock.

It was true that she believed in Lilliana.

But he believed that if the sisters worked together, then they would be able to take it down.

Not whatever this is.

Rex could see Davina in his periphery, but he couldn’t see Lilliana, so she must be the one who caused the creature to let out these agonizing squeals. I’ve read her bloodline’s description again, and I believed it was strong. But not this strong. Then again, the description is vague. I can’t really tell how strong the Soulspeed Werewolf bloodline made her.

On the other hand, Lilliana tore another piece free.

She bit down again, and again, grinding shards of bone-like armor like it was nothing.

The creature’s other limb came next. Lilliana seized it, pulled with the full force of her transformed body, and wrenched it from the socket. Blood sprayed across her face, but she didn’t mind. Even when some got into her eyes, she did not blink.

She didn’t even seem to notice.

Finally, the flesh underneath the armor bone was exposed.

Pale and glistening and utterly vulnerable.

Lilliana’s eyes flickered with that new, cold light, and she plunged her fangs into the unprotected meat.

Another wail tore from the creature’s throat, but this one was weaker. Hoarser. The voice of something that had been screaming—for hours. Almost as if its vocal cords were already shredded, and its strength bled out into the sand.

Even if that wasn’t the case, it didn’t matter as Lilliana’s claws ripped it out.

Silencing it.

And then, her fangs shimmered.

Energy coiled along their length, and the flesh around the bite began to unravel like thread pulled from a loom. The creature’s body lost mass rapidly, its color became paler, and its form collapsed inward. It dissolved into white smoke—a ghostly vapor that spiraled upward.

But it couldn’t reach far, as it was drawn inexorably into Lilliana’s waiting mouth.

She devoured it.

Breathed it in.

Consumed it whole.

Roar—!

Another roar cracked the air.

It didn’t come from the creature under her, but from another one. The same kind of creature, and it came charging from the distance. A blur of translucent shell and killing intent, with its claws tearing trenches in the green sand.

Overpoweringly, it slammed into Lilliana, tackling her before she could finish her meal.

She was taken off the dissolving carcass, and the two tumbled across the desert in a tangle of limbs.

Sand erupted in plumes.

Lilliana recovered quickly. Once her back hit the ground, she used it as an anchor to plant both feet into the creature’s torso and pushed. The force launched it skyward—its legs flailing and its claws grasping at empty air.

And before it could regain balance, Lilliana’s body turned to a white, ghostly phantom.

A blur of white speed and pale light.

In the next breath, she arrived right beside and her claws raked across its face mid-air. The exoskeleton shielding its skull split with a sound like fracturing stone, and the creature was hurled away—a violent detonation of force that sent it crashing away.

Crash—!

It crashed into a hill miles away.

The top of the hill erupted; rocks and debris flew in all directions as the impact reshaped the landscape.

Under the rubble, the creature shook its head, dazed but alive.

It scrambled free, leaping out of the crater and sliding down the slope. Its devious green eyes scanned wildly for the beast—that had consumed its own soul. It couldn’t find her. But instead, it found another figure high in the sky.

Davina hovered overhead with her hand outstretched skyward.

Swoosh—!

As the creature was recovering, she gathered energy, and it was now already obscenely immense.

It pulsed around her fist in concentric rings of silver and white, condensing into a sphere that hummed with barely contained destruction. Her eyes flickered once the sphere reached critical mass, and with a swing of her arm, she fired it.

Not a throw, but a beam.

A pillar of moonlight and starlight fused into a single, searing column bigger than her own body.

Kaboom—!

It struck the creature with a destructive force, and the world went white.

Light devoured everything, and for a suspended moment—there was only the roar of the blast and then the blinding, absolute purity of its radiance. The light climbed, folding inward and upward, creating the shape of a mushroom cloud that rose like a giant from the desert floor.

The shockwave followed.

It was a concussive wall of force that rippled outward and flattened everything in its radius.

Davina had put everything into that attack.

But when the glare faded, the creature still stood without much damage.

At the center of a massive crater, its exoskeleton scorched and smoking, it planted its feet and let out a defiant roar that shook the air. Even though it endured the explosion, Davina wasn’t surprised. She had already expected this.

Her task was only to distract.

Lilliana was the one who came in for the kill.

A white phantom circled the creature.

She moved faster than the creature’s senses could follow—a blur, a breath, a flicker of wrongness—and then she was there. Right before its face. Her clawed hands cradled its head with dreadful gentleness as she locked her soul-prison eyes onto its green gaze and bored into them like needles into a wound.

"Your soul is already mine."
