Chapter 1222: What a Bragger
Don’t be fooled by how much money Wu Yong spent on this car, he mainly bought it to show off. He’s only had his license for a bit over a year, barely past the rookie stage. He’s pretty smooth with everyday driving now, but if you let him race, it’ll just end in a crash and burn.
Lin Tian mentioned wanting to grab skewers earlier, so Wu Yong drove to a place they used to frequent. Although the place isn’t big and can’t compare to the fancy hotels they often visit, it might not be that hygienic either. But isn’t the real pleasure of eating skewers in the experience itself?
Parking the striking luxury car by the roadside, both doors automatically lifted upwards. Instantly, everyone’s eyes turned towards them. It’s quite a sight to see such a car parked in a place like this.
Some people craned their necks, trying to see into the car, thinking that whoever steps out must be a rich kid and his stunning girlfriend. People imagined her to be busty, long-legged, curvy, with a pretty face. Their curiosity peaked before they even saw anyone.
But to their disappointment, two men stepped out of the car. One of them, wearing sunglasses and of average build, looked somewhat tacky despite wearing branded clothes. The other guy actually matched the car’s aura: dressed simply yet neatly, tall with a rugged face, with an excellent demeanor and appearance.
These two guys stepping out of such a luxury car seemed completely out of place.
"What are you staring at?" Wu Yong shouted at a nearby young man who was also dressed in branded clothes and holding a girl’s hand.
The young man quickly averted his gaze and hurriedly walked away with his girlfriend without saying a word.
Lin Tian glanced slyly at Wu Yong and joked, "What’s up with you, getting so fired up over strangers all of a sudden?"
Wu Yong huffed heavily and said smugly, "Tian, back when we were struggling, those branded snobs looked down on us. Now we’ve become successful and I can’t believe we still bump into such arrogant people on the streets. You must’ve noticed his disrespectful look just now, right? How could I not get mad?"
Lin Tian rubbed his nose, intrigued, and laughed, "How was he looking down on me?"
"No way, you didn’t catch that?" Wu Yong’s eyes widened even more in disbelief as he pointed at the departing couple. "When we got out of the car, those two were totally blinded by my outfit, plus these sunglasses made me look insanely cool. Then, compare yourself; you’re dressed nice and clean, but a bit too plainly. So, next to me, you’re not cool at all."
"..."
What does it mean to be shameless? This is it!
Were those eyes looking at you with disdain, yokel, nouveau riche?
...
It’s currently the season transition between spring and summer, so while having skewers and drinking under such mild weather might not be as refreshing as in summer, it still has its charm.
With summer here, the crowd at this food stall wasn’t too bad. Wu Yong found a sunny spot and sat down.
"What would you like?" A young girl with a ponytail and no makeup, holding a small notebook for taking orders, ran over. She seemed to be around the same age as Wu Yong and Lin Tian. Standing by the small table, she glanced at Lin Tian, her eyes lingering before her cheeks slowly flushed red...
"Let’s start with four bottles of beer, four skewers of lamb kidneys, four skewers of chicken hearts... we’ll order more if we need." Wu Yong said, looking down at the menu on the table.
After finishing, he raised his head to see the girl, who was staring blankly at Lin Tian.
"Pft... cough cough cough..." Wu Yong couldn’t help but laugh, beginning to cough mid-laugh as he looked at Lin Tian with his eyebrows raised, teasingly.
The girl snapped back from her daze due to Wu Yong’s coughing and shyly asked, "Sir, could you repeat your order?"
"Haha, take a guess." Wu Yong smirked mischievously at the girl.
Lin Tian shot Wu Yong a glare, took the menu from the girl’s hand, and wrote down everything Wu Yong had just ordered before handing it back with a smile, "Just bring four bottles of beer first."
"Oh, okay." The girl nodded gently, her fingers seemed to have briefly touched Lin Tian’s and she was taken aback as if electrocuted.
She turned hastily and walked away, glancing at her notebook as she went, the neatly written calligraphy looked delightful.
"Wait!" A rough voice suddenly called out behind her.
"Anything else?"
Wu Yong pointed at an empty chair with a grin, "My friend wants to invite you for a drink, is that okay?"
"Huh? Really?" The girl seemed both surprised and shy as she asked herself, should I go? Should I go? Should I go?
In the bloom of youth, craving a perfect romance, how could she pass up the chance with a dashing guy like this?!
As the girl started to walk back, Lin Tian glared at Wu Yong irritably and then turned to the girl with a smile, "Sorry about that, my friend loves to joke around, you go about your business, we’ll get the beer ourselves."
"Alright, okay then." The girl’s previously blushing face stiffened instantly and she hurried away, turning her head and seemingly wiping away tears from her eyes.
"Tsk tsk tsk." Wu Yong clicked his tongue watching her small, retreating silhouette, jesting, "Tian, that was quite heartless, don’t you think? I say, she’s pretty and has a great figure, why not give it a shot?"
"Get lost! You can’t spit out ivory from a dog’s mouth, are you just teasing me on purpose?" Lin Tian glared and cursed.
Back in the day, a girl like her would’ve been sought after eagerly, but times have changed...
"Haha, Tian, how come I’ve never realized your face has such appeal? No wonder so many girls fancy you, truly a match made in heaven."
This kid wouldn’t stop teasing, prompting Lin Tian to kick lightly under the table and laugh, "Go, bring the beer!"
"Got it!"
Four beer bottles landed on the table, Wu Yong didn’t even bother with an opener, skillfully popping the caps off using chopsticks, showcasing his seasoned drinking skills.
Wu Yong filled both their cups with beer, smiling, "Remember the last time we grilled skewers together? We were still in school, saving up all week just for one skewer session, even ordering was about budgeting precisely."
"Yeah, and we saved money to go online." Lin Tian nostalgically smiled in agreement, recalling the memories vividly.
After the first beer was downed, Wu Yong poured himself another, clinking heavily against Lin Tian’s glass with bravado, "Cheers! The tough days are behind us, now we can call the shots!"
"Cheers!" Lin Tian held his cup and clinked Wu Yong’s, raising his head to drink.
But just then, a snide chuckle pierced through, "Heh, call the shots, huh? The young ones these days sure can brag!"
