Chapter 1257: Responsibility and Compromise
Until Wang Daoran’s back disappeared from view, Wang Sijing finally asked, "Ancestor, is it Lin Tian again?"
"Yes, he just brought people to our card gambling den to make trouble. Although it’s childish behavior, after so many times, no one can tolerate it anymore," Mr. Wang said coldly. "But fortunately, the contraband wasn’t discovered."
The card gambling den, drug trafficking, and the sale and purchase of weapons—these shady businesses have actually been the Wang Family’s bread and butter for many years. It’s a crucial economic source. Money, there’s never enough to earn idly.
Successful people or families, from a distance, aren’t as glamorous as they seem.
Upon hearing Lin Tian’s name, Wang Sijing felt her blood boiling and gnashed her teeth in anger: "That bastard should already be a dead man! Just a little bit more, just a tiny bit! I didn’t expect the Martial Sect to arrive at the critical moment and save his damned life!"
Thinking of the failed ambush she, Yun Kun, and Wang Sicong had conspired, Wang Sijing was so furious she hit her chest and stomped her feet.
Despite all the careful planning, who could have thought that the Martial Sect would appear in such a situation!
Mr. Wang glanced at her, sighed softly, and said, "You postponed the wedding by two months that day just to kill him?"
Now that things had come to this, Wang Sijing no longer hid it; she just didn’t want to talk about it, so she nodded.
"You shouldn’t have hidden this from me; otherwise, the result would’ve been different." Mr. Wang’s tone held a hint of blame, along with some heartache.
"Shuqing the Monk from the Five Pure Mountains said that Lin Tian is my heavenly tribulation. If I don’t kill him with my own hands, I fear I’ll never successfully cultivate the Golden Core in this lifetime. That’s why I didn’t tell you," Wang Sijing said.
Mr. Wang also knew how proud the young genius in front of him was; she would ask Yun Kun and Wang Sicong but never him.
"You believe what that bald monk Shuqing said? A heavenly tribulation? Bah! Your cultivation of the Golden Core has nothing to do with that Lin-named little wretch! Misleading youngsters!" Mr. Wang cursed, creating an issue where there was none before.
"I believe it!"
"..." Seeing the determined look in Wang Sijing’s eyes, Mr. Wang didn’t know what else to say. He finally just sighed and changed the subject: "How are your injuries?"
From that great battle not long ago, Wang Sicong perished, Yun Kun was severely injured, and Wang Sijing herself had some minor injuries, but she had been recuperating with all sorts of top-quality herbs for a month and a half.
Wang Sijing didn’t think much and casually replied, "I’ve fully recovered, nothing at all."
"That’s good, you don’t look like you’re hurt." Mr. Wang nodded in satisfaction, and suddenly the topic shifted again: "Your wedding day can be moved up."
"What?!" Wang Sijing was almost about to jump up in agitation, glaring with her big watery eyes: "Ancestor, didn’t we agree to postpone it for two months?! Why advance it?!"
Mr. Wang had long guessed this girl would be this excited and said unhurriedly, "Jing’er, your father is still bedridden unconscious now, and your uncles are hardly fit to take on the family responsibilities. Who do you say should step up at this moment if not you?"
Wang Sijing clenched her fists, stood up in agitation, and said, "What does all this have to do with my marriage?"
"What do you think?" Mr. Wang asked back.
Wang Sijing sat back down, also feeling that her previous question had been silly.
Too many things have happened recently in the Wang Family, and Ancestor has told her everything, clearly intending for her to take on the role of Patriarch.
Being shunned by all the other families, and in such turbulent times, working with a powerful family plays a highly crucial role. So her marriage alliance is important, important to the survival of the Wang Family.
Wang Sijing still wanted to say something to dodge this; she really didn’t want to get married so soon! And to someone she had no feelings for!
She had an innate aversion to such a marriage.
However, those words swirled in her chest but were swallowed back down. This is her responsibility!
"When’s the date set?" Wang Sijing slumped in the chair, looking a bit listless.
"You’re agreeing?!"
"What do you think?" Wang Sijing asked in return.
Mr. Wang chuckled, not caring that he too had just asked a pointless question, and said, "As long as you agree then everything is fine. I’ll have the Zhou Family’s father and son come over this afternoon to finalize the date!"
Wang Sijing just said lightly, "As you arrange."
...
When Lin Tian woke up, Liou Qingcheng was already gone, but her scent lingered on the bed.
Since only he and Liou Qingcheng were in the entire villa, Lin Tian couldn’t be bothered to get dressed. He simply put on a pair of shorts and slippers and walked to the bathroom to wash up. On his way to the living room, he caught the scent of breakfast.
Leaning his body slightly, his gaze peeked into the kitchen, where he saw a figure in an apron busying herself—a housewife figure that was quite enticing just from the back view.
"Since when did you start making breakfast?" Lin Tian asked with a smile.
"My mom said, to capture a man’s heart, you must first capture his stomach," Liou Qingcheng replied without turning her head.
Hearing this, Lin Tian burst into laughter, bending over with amusement. Once he caught his breath, he replied, "Don’t believe that. The fact that our dad wasn’t scared away by our mom’s cooking is already pretty good."
Liou Qingcheng thought about it and realized it made sense.
Soon, the eggs were fried. After careful plating and decorative touches, Liou Qingcheng carried the plate over.
Seeing Lin Tian bare-chested was no longer unusual to her. She said as she walked over, "Anyway, my stomach is already captured by you, if you ever dare not want me, I might starve to death."
Lin Tian smiled at her, "My heart has already been tightly captured by you, how could I not want you?"
Then, he looked at the heart-shaped eggs Liou Qingcheng had just fried, adorned with scallions, and found them quite pleasing to the eye.
"Quite a ritual." Lin Tian smiled in satisfaction, although his smile wavered a bit as he nervously asked, "Your mom didn’t teach you to fry these eggs, did she?"
"Oh, shush~" Liou Qingcheng glared at him in mock anger and said, "I wouldn’t want to poison myself. I watched two videos and practiced before. Try it."
Lin Tian smiled, first sniffing the aroma and then taking a bite—crunchy and delicious, with a great texture. He didn’t say any words of praise, only gave a thumbs-up with both hands.
Liou Qingcheng smiled with satisfaction and pride before saying, "By the way, Zhou Mi invited me to find Jiang Pan Die to hang out today, are you going?"
Under Liou Qingcheng’s gaze, Lin Tian pretended to hesitate for a few seconds before saying, "I have nothing to do today, so let’s go."
Being a big star, Jiang Pan Die was still a woman. If he agreed too readily, it might upset things...
Then, he peeked at Liou Qingcheng’s expression—nothing amiss.
Then Lin Tian teased again, "But before we go, the two of us should take a bath. We were too tired after creating a little one last night, and didn’t have a chance to wash."
Liou Qingcheng’s pretty face turned red and glaring at Lin Tian, "Don’t say that!"
