Chapter 1875 - 1880: Chatting with Wolves
Within the valley, no grass or plants grew, only vast areas of white bones, seemingly the remains of two giant wolves’ meals.
At this moment, Wang Qiang saw this scene and felt a chill in his heart; after all, it was indeed a terrifying situation. Wang Qiang had a limited ability to withstand such shocks and didn’t know what else might be inside.
As the giant wolves continued to move forward, the valley seemed to open like a gateway. Within lay endless white bones. Luckily, Wang Qiang saw only beast bones. He understood everything is governed by the principle of survival of the fittest, just as it is in the Lower Realm.
Wang Qiang kept moving forward until he reached the place he wanted to go—at the end of the valley was a dense stone forest, so tightly packed that Wang Qiang couldn’t tell where the others had gone.
At last, Wang Qiang followed the trail left by the White Wolf and finally found it, just as the White Wolf seemed to emerge from a cave.
Immediately, Wang Qiang hid among the dense stone forest, concealing his presence, and watched as the two White Wolves ran straight out; Wang Qiang didn’t know where these two giant wolves were heading next, but he couldn’t worry about that now, with a large cave ahead of him, Wang Qiang prepared to go inside to see what was in there.
However, to Wang Qiang’s surprise, inside the cave was a small snow-white hill?
At this time, Little Black suddenly spoke: "Wang Qiang, be careful; this is a formidable creature."
"What? Is this thing in front of us alive?" Wang Qiang was shocked; he hadn’t expected the thing before him to be alive. But what exactly was this creature?
Wang Qiang stepped forward, but before he could take any further action, the snow-white hill began to move. It seemed to be turning its head, and as it fully turned around, Wang Qiang was astonished to find it was an old wolf?
"Who are you?" The old wolf looked at Wang Qiang and then asked peacefully.
This truly surprised Wang Qiang; he hadn’t expected the creature to be so gentle, and they were prepared to flee—perhaps they didn’t need to anymore?
"We’re here to see if there are any treasures." Wang Qiang responded with a smile.
"Hehe, there are no treasures here, just an old wolf nearing his end," the old wolf replied.
"Will you die?" Wang Qiang suddenly asked, filled with curiosity about the question.
"Everyone dies," the old wolf replied. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as fierce as expected, emboldening Wang Qiang to continue asking: "How long have you lived?" Wang Qiang was curious, imagining demon beasts have long lifespans.
"Over five hundred years. My cultivation cannot advance further, so only death awaits," the old wolf said.
Upon hearing this, Wang Qiang nodded. He looked at the old wolf and asked: "Were those two who just left your children?"
The old wolf nodded, "Yes, they’re my children. Unfortunately, I’m about to die and can no longer protect them."
"They’ll grow up eventually, and they’re much stronger than you think," Wang Qiang said, then glanced around and found a large rock to sit on.
"Aren’t you afraid of me?" the old wolf asked in shock, amazed that a human wasn’t frightened of him.
Wang Qiang laughed, "Didn’t you say it yourself? You’re near death; what do I need to be afraid of?" Wang Qiang replied, his words somewhat leaving others speechless.
The old wolf looked at Wang Qiang and suddenly laughed, "Hahaha."
"What’s so funny?" Wang Qiang asked curiously.
"I find it amusing that you’re so naive; aren’t you afraid I’ll drag you down with me as I die?"
"There aren’t as many bad people in the world as you think," Wang Qiang shook his head. He felt that the other side wouldn’t harm him, though he couldn’t explain why—perhaps it was like a stern General nearing death, losing his sharpness and remembering the saying: ’The words of a dying person are kind.’
"You’re really special," the old wolf said.
"I find you very special for not attacking me. But if your children come back, they might attack," Wang Qiang responded.
"Don’t worry; I won’t let them attack you," the old wolf assured him with a smile.
"Can I trust you?" Wang Qiang asked in return.
"Who knows."
One human, one wolf, exchanging glances, suddenly laughed together—the old wolf finding Wang Qiang interesting indeed, while Wang Qiang felt there was something different about the old wolf, yet he couldn’t pinpoint what it was—but Wang Qiang believed the old wolf wouldn’t deceive him.
"How much longer do you have to live?" Wang Qiang asked.
"Just a few days until my Nascent Soul completely dissipates, which will be my true death," the old wolf replied.
"You still have Nascent Soul inside you?" Wang Qiang asked.
"What’s the matter? Do you want it?" the old wolf jokingly looked at Wang Qiang.
Wang Qiang shook his head, "I don’t want it; I don’t like taking advantage of the vulnerable, especially you."
"Why especially me?" the old wolf asked, puzzled, wondering if this human knew him or if there was another reason.
Wang Qiang explained, "Because you’re an old being. Why would I act against an elderly creature? There’s no reason for it."
After hearing Wang Qiang’s words, the old wolf paused for a moment, then burst into laughter, "You truly are a strange human, hahahaha!"
After all, if any other cultivator saw the old wolf, they would surely covet the Nascent Soul, but Wang Qiang didn’t do so. He sat on the stone, listening to the old wolf’s feeble laughter and asked, "Have you ever been to the Lower Realm?"
"Lower Realm? You’re from the Lower Realm, aren’t you?" the old wolf inquired.
Wang Qiang was surprised: "How do you know?"
"Hehe, even if your mark is concealed by obfuscation, the aura remains. It’s not easily detected unless carefully checked," the old wolf resolved Wang Qiang’s confusion.
Wang Qiang smiled and nodded, "Indeed, I’m from the Lower Realm. But while I was there, I saw wolves much smaller than you."
"The Upper Realm and Lower Realm are different; I’ve never been to the Lower Realm," the old wolf said.
Upon hearing this, Wang Qiang nodded—even so, he shared stories of the Lower Realm with the old wolf, while deep inside Wang Qiang’s heart, Little Black was pleading with him not to play with fire, fearing that no one could save him.
At this moment, continuous laughter echoed from inside the cave, making the two wolves carrying prey feel strange; typically, such things wouldn’t happen as usual—surely something unusual was occurring—prompting the two wolves to rush inside...
