Chapter 1815 - 1820: Ruined by a Scam
"What’s going on? What happened?" Little Fire was somewhat confused as he looked around, noticing that he was surrounded by fierce and malevolent people, along with several formidable figures, and no shortage of demon beasts.
"It’s hard to explain. I accidentally bought a ticket for the demon beast competition, so now I’m stuck competing." Lin Fei said, sensing many Nascent Soul Realm experts around the competition area. Clearly, trying to leave would attract attention and cause a lot of trouble.
"Oh, I see, that’s easy. Leave it to me, I’ll take care of all of them!" Little Fire said.
Lin Fei was speechless. "You need to find an opportunity to lose, so we can leave."
Hearing Lin Fei, Little Fire nodded in understanding and waited for his turn to compete.
Lin Fei waited quietly. The competition began, and he saw two people enter a giant iron cage surrounded by the audience. Upon the command of the referee-like individual, the two started fighting.
Not long after, the victor emerged, but the methods were extremely brutal, with one opponent tearing off the other’s arm. The bloody scene didn’t spark protests from the audience; instead, it provoked cheers and howls, making Lin Fei frown.
"Master, are you sure you want us to pretend to lose?" Little Fire asked.
Lin Fei looked in the direction Little Fire indicated and saw the loser being beheaded with a knife and then stuffed into a sack and taken away.
"Hahaha! Who else dares to challenge me? Today, I’ll claim the title of the strongest!" declared the blood-covered man standing in the ring.
"Brother, may I ask if the losers die?" Lin Fei asked uncertainly about such brutal rules.
"Of course, we’re all here risking our lives for honor. How could we not die? If we didn’t, it’d be embarrassing." The competitor replied.
Lin Fei was shocked. He didn’t expect such rules. If that’s the case, it’s really tricky. He can’t just wait to die, right?
"Little scholar, how did you get here? Or are you out of money for books? If you need money, just tell me, or if you want me to... hehehe." A scruffy-bearded man spoke to Lin Fei.
Hearing the man’s words, Lin Fei felt uncomfortable and immediately distanced himself from the fellow, feeling like these people were all criminals.
Finally, Lin Fei reached a quiet place with just one person, a young man in black. He glanced at Lin Fei and asked, "Which prison did you come from? I’ve never seen you before."
Hearing the youth’s words, "What prison?"
"Hehe, are you sure you’re not joking?" the youth in black asked.
"What joke? I really don’t know what you’re talking about," Lin Fei replied and explained.
"Hehe, I see, you indeed got tricked." The youth in black said, "Do you recognize the person who tricked you? You could go onstage and kill him."
"Are you saying these are all criminals?" Lin Fei asked, frowning deeply.
"Of course, otherwise why would ordinary people seek death here? They’re all prisoners, competing for a chance to survive; otherwise, why work so desperately?" the youth in black explained.
"And you? What’s your role here?" Lin Fei asked.
"I manage the place. Your situation is indeed unfortunate," the youth replied.
"You’re a manager? So, you can take me out?" Lin Fei asked.
"Of course... not. There are rules here. You walked in yourself, so you must follow them. If you want to leave, you need to win ultimately," the youth in black replied.
"What about this number plate, then?"
Lin Fei couldn’t understand the purpose of the number plate.
"Just the order of death. Anyway, your number will be called soon, and you should get ready to go on stage," the youth in black said with a smile.
Lin Fei looked at his number plate, fourteen.
Five or six people had died already, and it would be his turn soon. He didn’t know who his opponent would be, so he waited here.
Finally, it was his turn. As Lin Fei saw, winning would earn him a short break, but after three rounds, he’d have to compete again due to the unfair rules.
But for the prisoners, fairness was irrelevant. There was no right to speak of fairness, as they were prisoners and should not expect fairness.
Finally, it was Lin Fei’s turn. As he walked on stage, everyone was surprised. Lin Fei was fair-skinned, clearly not a prisoner, so why was he here?
Although perplexed, once he was up there, he couldn’t go back down.
To Lin Fei’s confusion, the competition hadn’t started yet. A staff member approached and asked for his wooden ticket, puzzled: "You don’t need to compete. You can just watch from the audience. Since you want to join, give us your name. If you win, there’ll be a reward. If you die, there’s nothing we can do."
Hearing this, Lin Fei was completely stunned!
"I wasn’t here to compete; I just heard..."
Lin Fei turned to look at the young man in black, who was smirking at him. Lin Fei realized he had been set up by that guy!
Everything was a mystery. Lin Fei had no idea what was happening; his brain was overwhelmed, but it was clear he had been tricked onto the stage.
"Whether you’re here to compete or not, now that you’re onstage, you must see it through. If you lose, you’ll face the same fate as them. That’s the rule, so give us your name and start the competition," the staff member said.
Lin Fei calmed down, nodded, and stated his name, looking at the man opposite him.
The man was extremely obese. It was the same one who had earlier mentioned giving him money in exchange for certain favors...
Lin Fei gave his name, and the staff stepped down. The obese man revealed yellow teeth as he looked at Lin Fei, laughing: "Boy, didn’t expect you’d run into me. Hahaha, heaven is too kind to me!"
"What do you want?" Lin Fei asked.
"Hahaha, idiot! What do I want?"
