Chapter 1832 - 1837: Deceiving the Prince
"Lying!"
The Fourth Prince Orion suddenly shouted at Jiang Ming, causing Jiang Ming’s heart to jump. He looked at the Fourth Prince facing him and said, "Fourth Prince, every word I said is true!"
Upon hearing this, the Fourth Prince snorted coldly, then stood up, looking down at Jiang Ming. He began to descend, but did not approach Jiang Ming directly. At this moment, Jiang Ming was considering whether to take action, but he noticed that between him and the Fourth Prince was a middle-aged man watching him, from whom he sensed a distinct, powerful energy!
Thus, he couldn’t act rashly, as there was no certainty, but as long as the Fourth Prince got a bit closer, then he could succeed. He was confident in killing this Fourth Prince.
Even if the Fourth Prince’s power matched his own, so what? Jiang Ming had this confidence, which is why he came here. But if the middle-aged man intervened, he wouldn’t be sure of killing the Fourth Prince.
Therefore, this matter was extremely dangerous; Jiang Ming needed to be cautious.
"You’re not lying? If they had the ability to escape, how could they let you come deliver a message? Even if you say they’re injured, I don’t believe all four were harmed. Rather, you brought this item here with a different intention. Tell me, is your aim to assassinate me?" the Fourth Prince asked.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ming hurriedly feigned fear and quickly knelt, kowtowing to the Fourth Prince, saying, "No! I’m being wrongly accused, Fourth Prince. Everything I said is true. Please investigate carefully!"
"Not true? If I’ve wrongly accused you, produce evidence to prove you’re honest, alright? Can you find it?" The Fourth Prince Orion looked at Jiang Ming, smiling.
At this moment, Jiang Ming wished Orion would come right in front of him. After all, that guy was pacing like meat placed before a beast—close yet unreachable, an unbearably frustrating feeling.
However, Jiang Ming was mentally composed, so he didn’t act hastily, but instead watched the Fourth Prince’s actions, looking for an opportunity, like a tiger or lion hidden in the grass waiting for the prey to become complacent or come closer, ready to deliver the fatal blow.
Yet the opportunity seemed elusive. He spoke, "Fourth Prince, I have something that can prove my truth."
"What is it?" The Fourth Prince asked, puzzled.
"I have it here, but I need to present it personally to Your Highness." Jiang Ming replied.
"Hehe, do you think I’m unaware? If I wasn’t sure you were an assassin before, your words now confirm you’re trying to assassinate me; otherwise, why request to get close?" The Fourth Prince Orion stated.
His reasoning made Jiang Ming pause; he’d foolishly overlooked that in his haste, but he maintained his composure saying, "Your Highness, I am wrongly accused."
"How am I wrong? Explain!" The Fourth Prince turned his back to him and walked towards the throne, each step exuding unique power. Jiang Ming knew the Prince was on guard, and feared an attack might now fail to kill him.
Yet Jiang Ming knew he must find an opportunity, for his purpose was to kill Orion; failing that, why did he come at all?
Meanwhile, Lin Fei had discreetly entered the Fourth Prince’s residence and was heading towards them. To Lin Fei, Orion’s death was inevitable.
"Your Highness, I wish to give you this item; you should be able to trust me then, right?" Jiang Ming said, handing something to the middle-aged man, who then presented it to the Fourth Prince Orion.
Orion looked at the item in his hands, suddenly laughed, "You have another token? What’s going on? Can you explain?"
Jiang Ming smiled and said, "This item was given by some old mentors to ensure Your Highness would believe my words, hence they entrusted this token to me at night."
"Do you think I’ll believe you just because of that?" Orion laughed, yet the more he laughed, the more he felt something was off; otherwise, why were two tokens given to this person?
"Then how can Your Highness believe me?" Jiang Ming asked, feeling exasperated, Orion was more cautious than he had imagined! If it continued this way, the outcome wouldn’t be Orion’s death.
Orion glanced at Jiang Ming and said, "You really want me to trust you."
Jiang Ming nodded, saying, "My mission is to deliver the message; if it doesn’t get delivered, they’ll kill my family, then how will I survive!"
Jiang Ming used every tactic he could imagine, but acting wasn’t his forte, so it seemed fake. Yet Orion’s eyes brightened as he said, "What did you say? They threatened your family?"
"Yes, otherwise why would I keep pleading with Your Highness to believe me?" Jiang Ming said, his words full of emotion, hoping this would be the last straw. If the opponent didn’t fall for it, Jiang Ming would be utterly helpless.
Suddenly, Orion laughed, "What other methods do you have? Show them, or you won’t have another chance."
Jiang Ming was dumbfounded; he thought for a moment and said, "This is my last resort, if it doesn’t work, then there’s really nothing I can do."
After speaking, Jiang Ming’s hand reached towards his chest. At that moment, the middle-aged man approached Jiang Ming, seemingly to prevent a sudden attack on His Highness.
After all, his duty was to protect His Highness from harm, even at the cost of his own injuries, a testament to his resolve.
To his surprise, Jiang Ming actually took something out and handed it over, shocking him with the two tokens in his hand, which were still...
Orion stared at the two tokens in his hands utterly speechless; how could there be so many?
