Chapter 1749 - 1754: Disguised Entry into the City
Lin Fei nodded and spoke: "Little Fire is right, but I’m not giving you this Spirit Nourishing Flower because you’re not strong enough. This reason is not a reason at all—it’s just an excuse!"
Little Fire heard Lin Fei’s words and argued: "Master, it really is because I’m not strong enough, otherwise, I would definitely help you!"
Lin Fei smiled, "I said, this is not an excuse. On the contrary, you saying this actually makes me less inclined to give it to you. It doesn’t matter whether you are strong or weak; what matters is your intentions. If you’d just asked me nicely, saying you need this Spirit Nourishing Flower, I would have given it to you. But what did you do? You tried to snatch it!"
"You should remember your status, right? You dare to snatch something from your master? Such a servant really disappoints the master. Also, from now on, the Golden Cores and Nascent Souls from the demon beasts we kill—if you don’t behave well, don’t even think about getting a single one. After all, what use do I have for a servant who doesn’t help me?"
Hearing Lin Fei’s words, Little Fire was left speechless. After all, Lin Fei had made his point very clear; he did indeed act wrongly. But Little Fire didn’t expect Lin Fei to be so ruthless, not cutting him any slack at all.
"Haha, serves you right! Trying to usurp control and overstep? It’s truly laughable!" Little Black mocked.
"Alright, Little Black, how do I use this thing? Do I just eat it directly?" Lin Fei asked Little Black. Although he had the spiritual medicine, he didn’t know how to consume it.
Little Black thought for a moment, "Boss, I think you should just eat it directly and then refine it. It should help your spiritual power."
"You’re not sure either?" Lin Fei asked.
"Of course not. This thing has a special purification method, but we don’t have the equipment or means, so we have to do it the simplest way, " Little Black said.
Lin Fei nodded, "Alright, then I’ll eat it."
After saying that, Lin Fei directly swallowed the Spirit Nourishing Flower. After consuming it, he began to refine it, but to his surprise, the flower didn’t need refining. A refreshing power surged straight into his mind as if cleansing Lin Fei’s spiritual power, making it feel much clearer and significantly enhanced.
"It’s truly a miraculous thing," Lin Fei marveled.
"Of course, the Spirit Nourishing Flower is the mildest spiritual remedy. But eating it like this doesn’t maximize its effects. It’s best to process it into Elixir Pills first," Little Black said.
Lin Fei gave a wry smile, "I don’t know any Alchemists, and even if I did, I doubt anyone would help me."
"Never mind, this thing is good enough as it is. Let’s move on, master."
"I’ve told you already, don’t call me master. Just call me Lin Fei," Lin Fei said. He found the title "master" quite unappealing.
"Hahaha, that’s just as well. I don’t like calling you master either, so Lin Fei it is," Little Black agreed, after all, being of the Dragon Clan, a noble Dragon Clan, found calling others ’master’ a bit awkward.
Their conversation was pleasant, but Little Fire was left out, understandably so, as Little Fire had truly gone too far. Lin Fei is not one to overlook grievances, but neither is he someone easily fooled.
Lin Fei knew exactly what kind of being Little Fire was—an opportunistic follower, quiet when not needed, coming forward when there’s a benefit, and retreating immediately when there’s none.
"Little Fire."
At this moment, Lin Fei suddenly looked at Little Fire and called out.
Little Fire looked at Lin Fei in confusion, "Master, what do you need from me?"
"Of course, I hope that next time you discover any Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, you will be eager to report them. Understood?" Lin Fei asked.
"Why? You won’t give it to me anyway," Little Fire complained.
"If you perform well, I’ll certainly give it to you. If not, I definitely won’t. But if you find something and don’t tell me, then don’t blame me—I’ll have you sign a Life and Death Contract with me!" Lin Fei said, smiling at Little Fire.
Hearing Lin Fei’s words and seeing his smile, Little Fire suddenly felt a chill. He realized that Lin Fei wasn’t someone easy to fool, and if he truly angered Lin Fei, he might end up signing a Life and Death Contract with him, making him even more miserable.
"Understood." Even though he was unwilling, Little Fire had to comply, knowing that otherwise a more wretched fate awaited.
And so, Lin Fei continued on his journey, with a sullen Little Fire and Little Black taunting him all the way, "Little Fire, be honest. Don’t think you’re all that. You’re merely a flame, remember your status, and don’t think of overstepping, got it?"
Little Fire ignored Little Black completely.
Little Black smiled, tightening his body more and more until he directly shattered Little Fire’s tiger form, turning into a flame that flew in front of Lin Fei to complain.
Lin Fei smiled and said, "Listen well to Little Black—he’s right."
Hearing Lin Fei’s words, Little Fire resigned himself and transformed back into a small tiger, nodding in agreement whenever Little Black said something, to Little Black’s amusement.
As they journeyed onwards, Lin Fei finally saw a city. This city seemed calm, unlike others Lin Fei had encountered.
However, Lin Fei didn’t plan to waltz in. He needed a disguise, at least knowing that Qianhuang Peak’s people were hunting him. He had to change his appearance before entering.
Lin Fei came upon a swamp, dug up some mud, and smeared it on his face, then tore his clothes a bit, even rolling on the ground until he looked like a destitute beggar.
"If I suppress my cultivation some more, it should be fine."
Lin Fei lowered his cultivation state and began walking towards the city.
Fenglin City.
The name of this city; Lin Fei recalled this name from memory, comparing it to the map in his mind, and realizing it was several hundred kilometers from Sky Wolf City and at the edge of the Demon Beast Forest.
Upon entering Fenglin City, Lin Fei was stopped by guards. One of the guards spoke: "You must pay one tael of gold as an entrance fee."
The soldiers assumed Lin Fei probably couldn’t afford the entrance fee, but the little tiger following him looked valuable, likely able to fetch a good amount of gold if sold.
To their surprise, Lin Fei pulled out a large chunk of gold and broke off a piece, "This should be about a tael, right?"
