Chapter 2223: Sister-in-Law (5)
Jiaojiao looked at her, and her heart felt as heavy as a thousand pounds.
As they neared the Lu Family’s house, Zhao Li finally showed signs of fatigue. When she got out of the car, she tightly held Jiaojiao’s small hand, as if afraid she would leave.
Jiaojiao had no choice but to support her alongside Lu Zishu, one on each side.
Entering the house, Zhao Li remembered the issue of the headstone and instructed Lu Zishu, "You need to expedite this matter, get it done quickly, do you understand?"
Lu Zishu glanced at Duan Xi standing behind with an unpleasant expression, then at Jiaojiao on the other side, nodded vaguely, trying to brush it off.
But Zhao Li wouldn’t allow it, she poked his forehead and reprimanded, "Did you hear what I said?"
Lu Zishu had to give Duan Xi a pleading look, then replied to Zhao Li, "Mom, I heard, and I’ve noted it down."
Only then did Zhao Li let him go, and she pulled Jiaojiao’s small hand, saying, "Jiaojiao, godmother is a bit tired, accompany godmother upstairs to rest for a while."
"Okay." Jiaojiao nodded, and with her little hand, signaled to Duan Xi behind, telling him not to worry.
When Zhao Li took Jiaojiao and Lu Meng upstairs into the room, everyone else sat in the living room downstairs.
In the silence of the room, Lu Zhiwei kept his head down, smoking non-stop; under the swirling smoke, he apologized to the Ruanlin Family, "I’m sorry, Xiaoli may not be able to accept reality temporarily, which is why she is talking nonsense. Rest assured, I have explained this to relatives and friends."
Faced with this situation, the Ruan Family didn’t know what to say.
Only Duan Xi spoke firmly, "The name on the headstone must not be engraved."
Lu Zhiwei looked up at him and nodded.
Upon hearing this, the Ruan Family sighed in relief.
Lu Xian’s departure had left the Ruan Family deeply saddened, but engraving Jiaojiao’s name as a widow on the headstone was another matter entirely.
The Ruanlin sighed, "Don’t bother cooking tonight, come to our house for a meal. Take Xiaoli’s situation slowly, don’t rush, she can’t take the shock now."
"Get a doctor to take a look at her," Du Qing added.
Lu Zhiwei nodded, and the following time was filled with prolonged silence, a room of quiet, leaving everyone feeling heavy-hearted, whether over Lu Xian’s passing or Zhao Li’s current state.
Upstairs, after Jiaojiao coaxed Zhao Li to sleep, she didn’t rush to leave the room immediately. She sat by the bed, staring blankly at her sleeping face. Her eyes stung badly, and she rubbed them heavily with the back of her hand, then looked at Lu Meng beside her, gesturing towards the door.
Lu Meng obediently nodded, and the two of them left one after the other, carefully closing the door.
Outside, Duan Xi waited by the door. When he saw them come out, his face looked a bit better, and he prepared to leave, holding her hand. But Lu Meng called out softly from the side, "Auntie, I want to go with you."
Upon hearing his voice, even though he called her Auntie, Duan Xi’s gaze turned sharp.
Lu Meng was so frightened he took a step back, but he couldn’t take his eyes off Jiaojiao.
Jiaojiao squatted in front of him, wanting to pat his little head but didn’t dare, so she softly coaxed, "Xiaomeng, grandma needs you now, how about you stay at home? If there’s anything you can’t handle, come to Auntie’s house, okay?"
