Lu Xian nodded. He hadn’t anticipated the extent of impact his death would have on Ruan Jiaojiao. But fortunately, there’s still a chance to make amends. What he needed to do now was to help Lu Meng get used to this world, and then find an excuse to stage an accident in front of everyone, so that his death would not be doubted by anyone.

Ruan Jiaojiao would not feel guilty, the Ruan Family wouldn’t be in a difficult position, and his own family wouldn’t harbor any resentment towards the Ruan Family.

Perhaps because he no longer had a heart, Lu Xian felt no emotional fluctuations when thinking about these things. Only the persistent obsession buried deep in his soul was quietly elated, anticipating the arrival of the next life.

While Shu Jiao and the others were driving to the Border Town, they heard halfway through that Ruan Jiaojiao had recovered and her fever had subsided, causing the four of them to rejoice and immediately turn back.

They arrived at the villa before dinner.

Seeing Ruan Jiaojiao sitting at the dining table downstairs, eating noodles made by the Ruanlin Family with a beaming smile, everyone was thrilled except for Ruan Jianguo, who seemed oblivious to Lu Xian’s death. The other three exchanged glances, noticing a sense of confusion in each other’s eyes.

"Sweetheart, let dad check if you still have a fever." Jianguo rushed in, placing his hand on Ruan Jiaojiao’s forehead, but it wasn’t enough; he also touched her forehead with his own. Upon realizing the fever was really gone, he breathed a sigh of relief: "It’s really not hot anymore, that’s great! Wife, come and see for yourself."

Shu Jiao observed Ruan Jiaojiao carefully, noting that although her face was pale, she looked quite spirited. Her eyes didn’t reflect the pain and guilt that they had before; instead, they even held a hint of a smile.

"Jiaojiao." Shu Jiao came forward, holding her small hand, mimicking Jianguo by touching her forehead, then asked: "Is there anywhere else you feel uncomfortable?"

"No." Ruan Jiaojiao shook her head, noticing Ruan Hao and Duan Xi simply gazing at her without speaking, asked curiously: "Xi brother, big brother, what’s up with you? I’m really fine now, the fever is gone. Nanny said I was feverish for three days, but I can’t remember anything at all."

As Ruan Jiaojiao spoke, she lowered her head to sip the noodles in the clear soup.

"You don’t remember anything?" Shu Jiao frowned.

"Yes." Ruan Jiaojiao nodded, noticing their expressions seemed a bit off: "Is something wrong? Is there anything going on?"

"No." Duan Xi quickly replied, walked up, and wrapped her in his arms, paying no mind to the many eyes observing them. He lowered his head to kiss her forehead: "We were just so scared."

"Yes." Ruan Hao chimed in: "But now that you’re alright, that’s what matters."

Ruan Jiaojiao cast a suspicious glance at the three, feeling their previous attitudes were odd, yet unable to pinpoint exactly what was amiss. Adding to that, her mind was still a bit foggy, she couldn’t process it, so she didn’t dwell on it. After eating noodles, Jianguo called a doctor over.

The sudden high fever that wouldn’t subside was concluded to be due to poor physical condition, combined with exposure to cold and changing weather, resulting in the fever spiraling out of control.

In the evening, Ruan Jiaojiao watched some TV, but couldn’t hold on past eight o’clock, she fell asleep next to the Ruanlin Family. Duan Xi carried her to her room, gently placed her on the bed, squatted by the bedside, gazing at her delicate face, his eyes filled with longing, staring for a long, long time. Lastly, he lifted his upper body, kissing her from forehead to her little lips, then reluctantly straightened up, closed the door and left.
