Chapter 2200: Lu Meng (12)
Lu Meng’s mother was just one of his father’s many lovers, and initially, his father didn’t care about the child’s birth at all.
However, when Lu Meng was born, he was somewhat different from other children.
He came into the world with his left hand clenched in a fist. It’s not unusual for babies to clench their fists, but what was peculiar was that in his tiny palm, he held a Buddha Bead the size of a thumbnail!
You know, a baby’s hand is very small, and closing it into a fist is difficult enough, let alone holding a Buddha Bead. This bead was brought out from the womb, and his grip was so tight that nobody could pry it from him.
Being a leader, especially one who has committed many such misdeeds, his father had strong faith in such things. Lu Meng being born with a Buddha Bead made him believe that he was a special gift from the heavens.
Yet, this special one had a troubled fate. First, his biological mother died due to childbirth complications, and he himself was born with a congenital defect, heart failure.
In the first five years of his life, he had undergone three heart transplants. Initially, the new heart would be fine, but soon after, heart failure would begin again, as if no heart could survive in his chest.
Until the most recent heart transplant, it’s been less than half a month, and miraculously, not only did he experience no discomfort, but a week later, he was lively and bouncing around.
Duan Xi read through Lu Meng’s information from start to finish, focusing on his clutching of the Buddha Bead and his congenital heart failure.
Although he wasn’t certain, Duan Xi roughly surmised the answer; he had an idea of who Lu Meng might be.
Yet, there was one thing he needed to verify personally.
Ruan Jiaojiao lost all the little weight she had gained when winter came after a bout of fever, leaving her palm-sized face looking even larger-eyed.
After resting for a day, she returned to school on Friday.
"Poor thing, look at this little face, not a bit of flesh left," Chen Hui said sympathetically, pinching Ruan Jiaojiao’s cheek.
Ruan Jiaojiao smiled without saying a word, copying the information she’d missed over the last two days. Just as she was diligently writing, a commotion from the front caught her attention. She glanced up to see Jiang Xun entering from outside, his face stern. He walked past her, his eyes showing undisguised disdain.
Sensing his dislike, Ruan Jiaojiao rolled her eyes silently. After he passed, Wu Huan came over, inviting Ruan Jiaojiao to go to the restroom together.
Putting down her pen, Ruan Jiaojiao thought about moving around a bit and stood up, following her out. As soon as they stepped out, Wu Huan asked, "Jiaojiao, did you know what happened during the two days you weren’t here?"
"Hmm?"
"The class president handed out invitations to everyone in the class; it seems like he’s preparing to get married. I heard the bride is the girl who came to your birthday party back then," Wu Huan said excitedly.
But Ruan Jiaojiao was uninterested, letting the information pass through one ear and out the other.
Seeing her lack of reaction despite her excitement, Wu Huan lost interest and switched topics.
Ruan Jiaojiao listened, though it hardly intrigued her, merely nodding faintly without much interest. Her expression remained indifferent.
