The Kitty Became a Cutie and Was Pampered in the 80s

Ruan Jianguo bowed his head, seeing that Jiaojiao didn’t seem like she was lying, he could only put her down. Yet, he was determined to stand in between her and Duan Xi, just like guarding against a thief.

Jiaojiao felt both embarrassed and annoyed by his actions, especially with so many people watching. Her face was burning, and in anger, she shook off Ruan the Rich’s hand, turned around, and got into the passenger seat next to Duan Xi.

As soon as Ruan Jianguo saw this, he immediately tossed his keys to Ruan Bo beside him, dashed over, and squeezed himself into Duan Xi’s car.

Duan Xi walked to the driver’s seat and got in, with Ruan Jianguo at the back reminding, "Xiaoxi, drive the car home, go home."

Duan Xi nodded, started the car, turned the steering wheel, and headed towards the villa.

On the way back, the three remained silent. Jiaojiao was embarrassed by Ruan Jianguo, Duan Xi was absorbed in his own thoughts, while at the back, Ruan Jianguo constantly stared at Duan Xi’s steering wheel, fearing that he might drive back to Hengya when he wasn’t paying attention.

The car ride was about half an hour, and midway through, Duan Xi received a message on his phone. Besides texting Jiaojiao, he usually didn’t have the habit of messaging anyone, preferring to make phone calls instead.

So when the message came in, he merely glanced at it indifferently without any intent to check it.

Seeing him ignore it, Ruan Jianguo got anxious and reminded, "Xiaoxi, your phone rang. Why aren’t you checking the message?"

Duan Xi replied, "I’m concentrating on driving."

"It’s okay, it’s okay, just take a quick look," urged Ruan Jianguo.

Jiaojiao questioned, "Dad, didn’t you say last time not to call or look at your phone while driving?"

"It’s alright, your dad is watching this time. Xiaoxi, take a quick look. Maybe someone has something important for you."

Ruan Jianguo’s behavior was too deliberate, and if Jiaojiao couldn’t see through the trick, she would indeed be slower than expected. She turned and reached for Duan Xi’s phone but was stopped by Ruan Jianguo at the back: "Let Xiaoxi look for himself."

"..." Jiaojiao.

She looked at Ruan Jianguo speechlessly, wondering if her dad thought everyone was foolish.

Duan Xi had no choice but to pick up his phone for a quick look, then put the phone down while simultaneously slowing the car.

At the same time, the cars behind quickly overtook them, leaving them behind in the night. Jiaojiao suspiciously glanced at the triumphant Ruan Jianguo at the back, pondering what kind of surprise he was planning.

Even if the car was slow as can be, they eventually reached the front of the villa at ten minutes to midnight.

Ruan Jianguo got out of the car beaming with joy, rushed to open the car door before Duan Xi, and led Jiaojiao down.

As Jiaojiao stepped off the stairs, she heard Ruan Jianguo whisper in her ear, "Sweetheart, look up at the sky."

Fireworks, probably?

As soon as Jiaojiao looked up, she heard a series of whooshing sounds, and a few seconds later, a magnificent firework exploded in the sky, illuminating the entire neighborhood.

Then, one after another, fireworks shot up in succession, and among the myriad of flowers, Jiaojiao noticed six words in the sky: "Sweetheart, Happy Birthday," her eyes widening in surprise.

Jiaojiao had seen plenty of fireworks before; whenever there’s a festive occasion or someone’s birthday, Ruan Jianguo enjoyed this kind of celebration, saying it was festive, and Jiaojiao indeed liked it.

But she’d never seen it done on such a grand scale before.
