Chapter 2184: The Truth Abroad (16)
Jiaojiao still didn’t want to believe it.
"Brother Xi, there must be some misunderstanding here, Brother Xian..." Jiaojiao couldn’t continue, choking back her sobs.
Because she knew she was deceiving herself; Lu Xian hadn’t denied it, so how could it be a misunderstanding?
But why?!
Why did Lu Xian leave Amerika for the Penguo border and die in that riot!!!
That night.
Jiaojiao cried for a long time, her tears almost dry, her heart numb with pain.
Duan Xi stayed with her, not stopping her from crying because he knew she needed to vent her emotions.
Jiaojiao cried until past one in the morning, her emotions slowly stabilizing, but she couldn’t wait until dawn; she had to see Lu Xian immediately to find out what was going on.
Duan Xi knew he couldn’t stop her, so to avoid disturbing Ruan Jianguo outside, he carried her down from the balcony and out of the wall without alerting the Ruanlin Family downstairs.
Midway, Rou Rou sensed the commotion, but with just one glance from Duan Xi, it obediently quieted down.
Equally obedient was Xiaobai, who had sneaked out from the zoo when the night fell silent, stood under the wall, and thought Jiaojiao being carried out by Duan Xi was a welcome for him. He wiggled his graceful body excitedly but quickly realized something was wrong.
Because no matter how much he wiggled, it seemed that Little Cutie didn’t notice him, and the two went straight to the Lu Family next door.
The Lu Family was already resting, and the lights were off, but after Jiaojiao and Duan Xi stood at the door for less than a minute, the light in Lu Xian’s room came on. Then he walked to the balcony, glanced outside, and then turned back into his room, picking up the drowsy Lu Meng.
Lu Meng was becoming more accustomed to life in this world. When Lu Xian picked him up, he still hadn’t awakened. It wasn’t until they reached the door and felt the cold air that he slowly woke up.
Rubbing his eyes with little hands, he was about to ask Lu Xian where they were going but felt the familiar presence at the door. Turning his head, he looked over joyfully.
"Seeing Mommy?" he asked excitedly.
Lu Xian put him down and nodded, as usual, instructing, "Just watch, and don’t approach her without my permission, okay?"
Lu Meng nodded seriously.
One big, one small, they walked out.
Jiaojiao looked at the familiar figure approaching under the night sky, tears once again filling her eyes. She still couldn’t believe that Lu Xian was dead; clearly, he was right in front of her, yet he was said to be dead!
Lu Xian opened the iron gate, and Jiaojiao instinctively wanted to rush over, but before she could take a step, she met Lu Xian’s unfamiliar gaze.
"Brother Xian..." All of Jiaojiao’s words were stuck in her throat.
Although Lu Xian was dead, the heart that once loved her was gone, and seeing her wouldn’t make his heart flutter anymore. Yet, the obsession embedded deep in his soul before his death remained.
It was this obsession that dragged his body, devoid of any sensation, back to Beidu, back to her side.
Not just to help Lu Meng adapt to this world, but also... to continue protecting her, at least not to let her fall into an abyss of endless grief due to his death.
