Chapter 2237:
Watching Lu Zishu who hadn’t yet recovered, Duan Xi stood beside him, his gaze indifferent as he flexed the fist he had just used to hit someone: "Are you clear-headed now?"
"..." Seeing Duan Xi, who looked like he would hit him again if he dared say he wasn’t, Lu Zishu rubbed his face and climbed up to sit.
He glanced at the papers scattered all over the ground, then looked at Duan Xi, not sure if he was really clear-minded or just afraid of being beaten, he finally nodded and said, "Sorry."
Duan Xi cast a brief look at him and turned back to the desk, retrieving a black box from the safe beside it, wrapped in a golden cloth, clearly preserved with great care.
"These belong to your brother. You decide whether you want to take them back or how to handle them."
Lu Zishu opened the box in front of Duan Xi, inside were not only certificates of honor but also a letter addressed to Lu Zishu personally.
Lu Zishu’s eyes reddened, his hand trembling as he picked up the letter.
Duan Xi had not expected there to be a letter inside, and looked at it with some surprise, explaining, "For the protection of your family, these won’t be made public, but whether to tell Aunt Li, you can decide yourself."
Lu Zishu looked up at him and choked out a response.
Duan Xi patted his shoulder and left the office, leaving space for Lu Zishu.
Lu Zishu opened the letter and discovered it was written last year—a last will.
Lu Xian, from the moment he became an undercover agent, understood that he might not make it out alive, so not only him, but actually every undercover agent historically has written a will for themselves, just in case.
But fearing the will might fall into enemy hands, it didn’t mention anything personal, just ordinary last words, instructing him that if something happened, he should take care of their parents and himself.
Holding the brief words of the will, Lu Zishu cried uncontrollably, his sobs even passing through the door crack, attracting the attention of many outside the office.
Duan Xi stood guard at the door, quietly listening.
About ten minutes later, the office door reopened.
Lu Zishu’s eyes were swollen red from crying, Duan Xi frowned, hearing him ask, "Is Lu Meng’s heart really my brother’s?"
Duan Xi nodded.
"Then how could my brother come back after dying?"
"Lu Meng isn’t an ordinary person; he must have made some sort of transaction with your brother, though your brother wouldn’t say what." Duan Xi explained.
Lu Zishu nodded, pondering but still unwilling to give up, "Is there really no way? Even back then with Jiaojiao..."
But before he could finish, Duan Xi shook his head.
"Even if I wanted to give all my luck to my brother, it wouldn’t help?" Lu Zishu insisted.
Duan Xi looked up at him.
Lu Zishu immediately understood the meaning.
He let out a bitter laugh, knowing it was impossible but still unwilling to accept it, wanting to try.
He turned to gather up all the papers, placed them carefully into the black box, and as he reached the door, he thought of something and said, "You punched me, that’s one punch returned."
"..." Duan Xi.
Lu Zishu didn’t take the box home, fearing his parents would find it, but after some contemplation, he decided to leave it in Lu Xian’s graveyard.
