Chapter 2004 - 883: The Ultimate Evil
It was an extremely enormous grey object, at least several million yards wide, with a height extending beyond Rod’s sight, plunging into the eternally distant darkness, standing there on the shattered earth like a colossal pillar supporting the heavens and the earth.
Its immense size astonished everyone; no one had ever seen such a magnificent behemoth, its size far exceeding the limits of human imagination.
Viheler marveled: "Could this be the legendary World Pillar? Is the Abyss the very bottom layer of the world?"
Rod didn’t speak. In his perception, this was an utterly lifeless object, without a hint of vitality, even rocks and dust seemed more lively than it.
As he approached, this hollow feeling became more pronounced; there was no vitality, no spirituality to be sensed from the giant, as if stripped away by some special existence.
"Master!"
In the Dream Realm, the Book of Knowledge suddenly shouted: "This is that monster, the Abyss Monster inhabited by the Black Mist!"
Rod was startled: "How do you know?"
The Book of Knowledge quickly answered: "Its structure, its form, is very similar to that monster. If I’m not mistaken, this gigantic monster should be connecting the deepest layer of the Abyss and the layer above."
Rod widened his eyes, nearly unable to believe his ears. If that were the case, how large would this monster be?
He immediately flew up with the four others, despite being mentally prepared, its height still exceeded Rod’s imagination.
"My God." Fei Xue couldn’t help but exclaim: "This, this must be at least a million yards tall?"
Frank looked down, endless darkness engulfing everything, they seemed to drift in the boundless void. Between heaven and earth, only this massive grey-white pillar remained. It wasn’t until this moment they saw its end, a huge cross-section, with residual steaming black mist.
"Did the monster break off here?" Rod murmured: "Did the Black Mist occupy only part of its body?"
The Book of Knowledge replied solemnly: "I’m afraid so."
"But, if it truly is a monster, immersed in the deepest Abyss for countless years, why hasn’t it been tainted by the Black Mist?"
The Book of Knowledge flipped through its pages: "Perhaps because all its vitality, all its spirituality, the foundation of its existence, no longer exists. For the Black Mist to invade it requires an enormous cost. If not for the Source feedback triggered by the master, the Black Mist might never have occupied this entity, it is deader than stone, and even the Black Mist hasn’t fully occupied its remains."
The doll’s calm voice followed in the mind: "Master, this monster may very well be the remains of a True God."
Rod suddenly thought of its soul.
"One part of its body formed a soul known as the [Soul of the Shattered Abyss], does this mean it is the entire Abyss?"
The Book of Knowledge fell into silence, after a moment it replied: "I don’t know, master."
The doll softly said: "We should go elsewhere, perhaps we can find more clues."
The Book of Knowledge spoke seriously: "Master, the most important thing on this journey is to find traces of the evil entity, the prophecy will never be wrong, it is surely here, at the deepest layer of the Abyss. Finding it might uncover the secret of the Black Mist’s birth, the reason for the Abyss’s shattering."
Rod nodded slightly. They had already determined through prophecy that the evil entity was closely linked to the birth of the Black Mist, which is why they went through great trouble to get here.
Suddenly, Asa shouted: "Yes, master, I have a feeling, I vaguely touched the inspiration foretold, quickly find it, master, if we can fulfill this prophecy, I will be able to absorb more Destiny Energy!"
Rod was startled again, hastily asking: "Where? Where’s the location?"
Asa frantically flipped through pages, amidst the flashing Golden Light, it yelled: "Over there!"
Almost in an instant, the thin mist of the [Spirit Realm Ship] enveloped Rod and the four, bringing them to the location Asa pointed to.
This was another piece of the shattered Abyss land, but unlike before, the land was strewn with remains of Abyss Monsters, with an ultra-giant Abyss Lord never seen before, an Abyss Black Snake longer than the entire Royal City, and an Abyss Demon King with only half a skeleton remaining. Like the unknown monster, all were stripped of vitality and spirituality, becoming completely dead objects.
Viheler exclaimed: "What exactly happened here? These monsters, these monsters... seem somewhat different."
Rod furrowed his eyebrows, he had the same feeling, but couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was different.
"I know!" Fei Xue suddenly blurted out: "These monsters are not like those corroded and infected by the Black Mist, they lack that terrifying aura of twisted and deformed aberration, it’s as if they’re primitive creatures of the Abyss!"
"Primitive creatures?" Viheler asked in astonishment: "What kind of nonsense is that? Do monsters have distinctions between primitive and non-primitive?"
Chucher explained: "I think Fei Xue means that perhaps these were primordial life forms existing in the Abyss before the birth of the Black Mist, calling them monsters is just our habit. Perhaps, before their demise, they were merely powerful beings unknown to us."
Frank whispered: "I have a hypothesis, maybe, the Abyss isn’t an Abyss, before the Black Mist appeared, it didn’t represent evil. These Abyss Monsters weren’t mad, and might have even been high intelligence beings. It was the appearance of the Black Mist that destroyed everything."
