# Signs (2), Ataskadero

The sky outside the car window is grey. Occasionally, the thunder flashes. Raindrops fall into the Humvee. It was the Turret on top. Winter, at least, is better. The machine gun shooter sitting on the turret was destined to rain the whole way.

Route Passo Robles to Ataskadero. Even though the previously missing mission troops cleared the obstacles, it took them a long time to get to 40 km. Because the roads were destroyed. Traces of repeated aerial bombings. The procession rarely speeds up.

It was time to dip the dug up section like a dipshit. At the abandoned ranch on the right, infected mutants are chasing the lost horses. He looks this way and changes his objective. I ran across a pasture that died yellow, shaking my arms and running hard.

A machine gun shooter taps the roof.

“At 2 o'clock, about 50 streets, eleven common variants…… No, thirteen. I'll take him down.”

He pulls the lever straight away. A turret that spins with the sound of teeth spinning.

Immediately, a heavy machine gun bursts into flames. Three Humvees pull out the shell in front of them.

The sound is thick because the bullet is thick. It's not the same as a personalizer. The runners are smashed to pieces. Vapor rises from the broken body. It was evidence of enhanced metabolism over humans. Maybe it's the cold air.

Noise Control. Dispatch, 331 in progress. Noise support, please. More than. "

Lieutenant Jeffrey's voice came from the radio. As a senior officer, he was responsible for the task force, riding in a follow-on vehicle rather than winter.

Shortly after transmission, you hear a loud noise coming from three directions across the horizon. It was a recently sprayed noise maker. This reduces the noise burden during the operation. Otherwise, it would be difficult to use heavy artillery lightly.

Geoffrey radios in to let you know that the shooting is over. Immediately, everything was quiet.

“Oh, shit! ”

The driver spit out his swear words. It is because a mutant has emerged from a very close distance.

Bang!

There was no room for a shooter. It's because the driver crashed into it. Blood splattered on the window.

There was a reason no one found any mutants. My whole body was covered in dirt and leaves, as if I'd been rolling around in mud. It's natural that you can't see it when you're lying there.

“Looks like you're undercover. ”

The grumbling driver's horse. Winter did not answer me.

Until then, nothing happened.

The state hospital, the destination, was located on the eastern edge of the city. The whole area is covered by a dark ridge, so you can't see it without getting close.

The site was very large. The entire facility was surrounded by a double wire fence, and there was a line of watchtowers to see from the prison.

In fact, the prison was beaten. According to the information provided in advance, it was a facility for the incarceration of criminally insane. Therefore, it was also good to quarantine the infected. The CDC didn't take this place for granted.

The car array entered the parking lot east of the hospital. About one platoon has been cleared to land. There are fewer troops than before, but there are more troops and, above all, winter. The soldiers liked that winter was one mid-level. The Command's assessment was more than that.

Finally, during the process of checking equipment and weapons, abnormal signs were found. Lieutenant Jeffrey made an impression.

“The radio is very noisy. Is there any interference?”

“I didn't have that information during the briefing. ”

The communicator is embarrassed. The radio I brought for long-range communication is useless. You were unable to connect to the camp or to any nearby U.S. military node. I plan to call for noise support one more time before I enter, but I return to the blister. We won't even get scouting support. I had to move on with briefing information only.

Winter also checked her radio. Communication with the nearest platoon members was not complete either. I had to turn down the volume to maintain my prayer. This made it harder to understand the radio.

But I couldn't give up the mission. Geoffrey gathered his forces together.

“Listen up. This is where the infected were kept in massive containment. The briefing says quarantine should be intact, but don't believe it. You think the task force went missing for nothing? Imagine the worst. Let's move. Let's never split up. Okay?"

Short, low answers. Geoffrey nods.

“Then King David will lead the way. Good luck to you all. ”

King David is one of the nicknames given to Winter recently. It looked like David was fighting Goliath. Sergeant Abel Cohen, presumed.

Winter did not stand a chance.

Outside the hospital, it was strangely quiet. A few mutants have moved inside the window. But I didn't shoot. The sound of the broken window would be too loud.

Vehicles from the preceding unit were found in the south parking lot. Several trucks and Humvees were abandoned. Not destroyed, not enough fuel. No sign of forced entry, no bodies. There's nothing on board. It seemed to be as it was when I first arrived.

“Ha, where did they all go? ”

Lieutenant Jeffrey mutters anxiously.

Troops now enter the front gate through the parking lot. The wind blows in an empty lobby. The whole thing was a mess, whether it was a sign of the CDC retreat. Meanwhile, there was a prominent graffiti. As long as the person with a long nose is written with a picture that shows his face.

"Kilroy was here.

“Was there a man named Killroy in the preceding task force? ”

When winter asked, the tension collapsed. Squadron members giggle and smile. When Lieutenant Jeffrey touches them, the radio man replies.

“Lt. Bison, that's just falling. Well, it could have been drawn by someone from the preceding unit. ”

Winter tilts its head and resumes the search. Lieutenant Jeffrey left a communicator and a squad in the lobby. It was to secure a retreat. Soldiers who have decided to stay have gathered obstacles. It was the work of building a genuine plant and installing booby traps.

There was a convex mirror hanging across the hall. In fact, it was an attempt to eliminate the blind spots of surveillance. This was both an advantage and a disadvantage. Even mutants can see mirrors.

This was the case right now. At the break of the corridor, through the ceiling mirror, a mutant encounters an eye. He runs toward the mirror screaming. The others on the prowl followed. Winter lifted its fist. It was a sign to stay still. Jeffrey and his squadrons stick to the wall. Winter itself lowered to the wall.

Those who run blindly through the mirrors just pass through the entire squadron, which is crumbling around the corner. It's swarming with hail under the mirror. Winter draws the Great Sword to the gun and approaches the rear of the mutants. From the one behind, avoid the ribs and stab into the heart.

Fluffy, fluffy. The sound of dead bodies piling up. Like a farmer harvesting crops, winter ended calmly one by one. A few of the platoon members came forward. I was worried about making a mistake, and two people stabbed each.

“That's bold. ”

The tired soldier shakes his head at the stabbing hand.

You then point the gun in either direction of the hallway and wait a moment. It was waiting for the new ones to come, drawn to the commotion.

There was only one. Winter took care of it.

I marched ahead leaving troops behind on every important road. The number of followers decreased rapidly. It was necessary to maintain radio contact with the lobby, as well as securing a retreat. As he entered the building, he was able to communicate less and less.

Engagement is frequent, but only minor. Instead, I had another problem.

“Why are there so many of these wheels? ”

I crawled all over the floor, on the walls, on the ceiling. It was hard not to step on it while walking around. There were things that came up to the body. Soldiers who hate bugs get bored. Lieutenant Jeffrey scolded them, but shortly after, he jumped. It was because I had one in my clothes. When I see him groaning in a small voice to get him out, winter hands on him.

Puck!

The broken part of the insect soaks wet. Geoffrey looks sad.

“… think carefully. Couldn't there be a better way? ”

“How long will you take it out? ”

Jeffrey could not blame Winter. Because the boy didn't care whether he was on wheels or not. I just throw it over my neck.

‘I've always been used to it. ’

Poor homes, crawling out of bed.

There was no sign of the preceding forces, even where the CDC used to store drugs. Winter found antibiotics while the soldiers searched for clues they might not know. I thought I could take a small bottle.

“What do we do now? ”

Geoffrey was frustrated. He decided that the search for the hospital was no longer meaningful. He expected the quarantine ward to be open, but it wasn't. It remains locked from this side.

It was cheaper than I thought, and there was no threat.

The breakpoint has reached the radio. It was a message left in the lobby by by by a communicator. Of course, it wasn't a direct line, and I received a relay from the troops left behind on each road.

“Wait, what are you talking about? Are you sure? ”

I don't know exactly what it was delivered to me. But he said something was wrong, that he needed to hear it for himself.

“Shit.”

It didn't take long to find my way back. All forces are back in the lobby. The communicator didn't look good. For more information, Jeffrey reached out to the comms. I didn't know how to explain it.

The order returned to winter.

The noise was still severe. But in between, there were definitely human voices. That's not one person. Dozens of voices were cut off and then repeated. It seems to have mixed up different communications.

Winter said.

“Somehow it seems to repeat the same thing. ”

“That's even weirder. ”

Jeffrey replied:

This is an unprecedented event. A new element has been added to the world view of After the End of Days. Winter listened again to communications.

Engagement……… on the road …… …… The majority of injured persons…… Cannot magnetize……… ……… of……… 's mission failed…… The majority of victims…… can't escape……… Go to…… Tar Rosa……… … …… xxxxx Engagement…… from… Node… er…… ............................................................................. 36867; …..... …… ⁄ …… Civilian…… won…… mission failed……

“Can I find the source? ”

When winter came, the comms were a bit of a mess.

“It's not impossible. It's kind of ignorant, but you can just wander around and find a way to improve your sensitivity. But it's going to take a long time. I'm not sure how far it is. ”

The comms have warned us of time.

Geoffrey settles down.

“Let's eat something and think. I'm starving.”

Q. Gaming system descriptions and viewer responses are good, but I would like to focus a little more on the story development.

A. Both stories and viewer responses in the real world are part of the story development. I didn't just put it in there to be funny.
