Chapter 2028: Pack Up All the Treasure
Little Taotie couldn’t remember when she had fallen asleep.
When she woke up, she was lying inside the camper.
Hua Jinyan was sitting by the bed, and when he saw her awake, he handed her a cup of water.
It was a thermos, and the water in it was just the right temperature. Little Taotie drank it down in big gulps.
"I dreamed about Sister Feng Qi," Little Taotie lowered her eyes, "In the dream, she said she was fine, that she was going to look for the mountain in another world, and wouldn’t be back for a while."
"You can rest easy now." Hua Jinyan handed her a piece of bread, "Eat something, you’ve slept for quite a long time."
Little Taotie’s stomach growled in response.
Little Taotie blushed slightly and nodded, taking the bread.
She took just one bite, but she didn’t have much appetite anymore.
She put down the bread, her little face full of melancholy.
"Don’t worry, maybe she’s already found who she’s looking for."
"Will she find them?"
"She will."
"You’re always lying to me," Little Taotie pouted, "You don’t know at all, but you always act like you do."
"My intuitions are always spot on."
"So are you cut out for fortune telling?" Little Taotie took a bite of bread and laughed, "Stop teasing me."
Hua Jinyan pressed his lips together, "I’ll go get you another glass of water."
Lu Yuan got in the car, not looking too pleased.
Little Taotie asked concernedly, "Uncle Bai Lu, what happened?"
"One of them ran away."
"Ran away?"
"We had clearly severed his tendons, making sure he couldn’t grab things from a distance, yet he managed to use his tongue to retrieve something, took the keys, and ran off."
"Using his tongue to retrieve objects..." Little Taotie found the bread in her mouth lost its flavor.
"It’s not safe here anymore, let’s get out of here first."
Lu Yuan sat in the driver’s seat and started the camper.
Hua Jinyan handed Little Taotie a cup of water, still the thermos, still perfectly warm water, Little Taotie took a sip and leaned in to whisper in Hua Jinyan’s ear, "Where’s my treasure?"
Hua Jinyan pointed to the Horse-Faced Bell.
Little Taotie widened her eyes, "Can it fit?"
Hua Jinyan nodded.
Little Taotie toyed with the Horse-Faced Bell with her small hands, "It never worked before."
"Feng Qi’s apprentice set it up."
"Feng Qi’s apprentice is so capable? Wait, you mean Feng Qi can do it too? Why didn’t she tell me before?"
"Maybe Feng Qi thought of the Horse-Faced Bell as her nest, following the territorial principle, unwilling for you to put too much random stuff inside."
"Hmph! When she comes back, I must settle accounts with her."
No sooner had she said this than the little girl turned sullen again, "I wonder... when Sister Feng Qi will be back..."
Hua Jinyan paused, reached out, and gently rubbed her head with his palm.
Little Taotie looked up, pouting, "I won’t grow tall."
The car suddenly accelerated, and Little Taotie was jolted forward.
Hua Jinyan reached out to catch Little Taotie, her little head bumping into Hua Jinyan’s chest.
"What’s happening?" Little Taotie felt her forehead, the fair forehead slightly reddened.
Lu Yuan: "Someone’s following us, I’m trying to shake them off."
"Someone’s following us?" Little Taotie looked out the window.
She tried to open the window and stick her head out, but Hua Jinyan stopped her.
"Is it the police car?" Little Taotie frowned, "An R country’s police car."
Lu Yuan: "It’s probably related to the guy who ran away. To even mobilize an R country police car, the traitor must have sold a lot of info to R country."
R country must find it profitable to make such an effort.
They must have gained a lot from the traitor.
"The car in front, stop, stop immediately!" The R country police shouted through a loudspeaker.
